Well, I've discovered the magical world of art auctions, hence the lack of posting. Within the past month, I've done one auction, still have one on the go, plus I'm entering another two quite shortly. And raking up the e-dough in the process.
I wish I would've thought of this much sooner. lol
So anyhoo.
Do any of you guys put your artistic ability to use on Gaia? Have an art shop? Take commissions? Enter contests? Hold auctions?

I've mostly stuck to auctions since they get me the most gold for one piece...
But they also take time to organize.
I'm looking for a join art shop right now actually.
Test Tube Babies was really appealing, but unfortunately the drama bug bit it and it's likely going to close.
i might cave and offer to join NUYA.
i just need gaia goldies. so bad.

The Magic Hate Ball II Gardenhead Photography doesn't sell too well on Gaia. gonk Yeah, that's true. Unless you can find cute little japanese girls, dress them up in someone's avatar clothing, and take a picture, then people aren't going to buy photography. XD

Page Boy I've mostly stuck to auctions since they get me the most gold for one piece... But they also take time to organize. I'm looking for a join art shop right now actually. Test Tube Babies was really appealing, but unfortunately the drama bug bit it and it's likely going to close. i might cave and offer to join NUYA. i just need gaia goldies. so bad. I wish I would've discovered art auction earlier. D: I had an art shop for a while, and did bustshots for 4k each. My current auction, for one piece of art, is now at 170k. Probably more than I made with all the bustshots combined. T__T; I'm gonna be in a little joint auction that a guild I'm in is holding. After I'm done with all these current ones I might look into joining a bigger one.

Humms, well. I prefer commissions over auctions.
Though, I've had two auctions the past 2-3 years and they were actually quite fun. n_n The first one got 40k as highest bid and the second was cancelled since I had some irl problems.
Making commissions is fun and easy money, but I dislike quite much doing them for gaians.
There's usually some common missing info with the commission or it's not interesting enough. Basically they either ask for avatar art, which is fun to do, but they won't give any idea what it should be about. I'd be more happy if the description were "a shy girl with my ava clothing in a sunny day, sitting before a desk and drinking tea." It's not much text, but it gives some idea what the commissioner is looking for.
Also, i'm quite... dazzled with the pricing artists do. The basic headshot-upper than hips- whole body-background. Drawing legs to a body won't really take much more time. Atleast it shouldn't.
I also dislike highly how gaians always say the the commissioned picture looks good and there's no need to change anything about it. I'm drawing the picture to them, so I wish for some kind of input.
Edit: Also, since I've had bunnies and been quite rich all the time since I got to gaia so i have no appreciation for gaian money.
(Though I lost my bunnies after a while due to my... erm. Wrongly counted exchange theory.)

I was doing auctions just to get an idea of where I should be pricing my art.
I met a lot of really nice art collectors by doing that too. Way cool people that I still talk to today.
The downside of the auction is that everyone ends up wanting a piece of your lower ends by way of constantly "hinting" that they want to do separate commissions, or offering up their nubile bodies.
Did I say Downside? Wow.
Actually, the stress for me came when I couldn't produce the art that everyone wanted from me, leaving both of us disappointed and depressio.
But that's a personal issue.
I had me a moderately popular art shop until it became too popular, then I went into seclusion.
I joined NYUA after doing a commission for Dr. MEAN! and I'm lovin' it there. I like hanging out with groups of artists that share similar psychosis.
As for those commissions; I end up doing free art for really nice/sweet/cute girls that want nothing more than to be attractive, smart, and polite to others.
I was doing stuff with Gendou for a while until I over-thought his avatar and burned myself out. Nice guy though, he really helped me out a lot when I was new to Gaia.
I'm really gonna have to start charging people for art.
