Personality: He's never worried too much about what other people think of him, especially when it comes to his own musical talents. Even if his parents hadn't given him praise, he would still be convinced that he was one of the best. Hayden's a cheerful, caring guy and he uses his talents to brighten the day of everyone around him. He has a special place in his heart for children, and he always stops to wipe a tear from one's eye and sing them a silly song (usually one he's written himself). Because of this, about half of his friends are at least ten turns his junior - and he still cherishes them as he would any other friend.
His creative, almost childish nature causes Hayden a few problems. Hardly ever does a second though cross this young man's mind - if he's thinking it, he'll more than likely say it. This sometimes gets him in trouble and has given him a reputation of being a little immature. Despite this, Hayden is the best person to tell your secrets to - at least, until he thinks you need more help than he can give you. Then he'll hint around the issue to someone he trusts to help you out. His unrestrained tendencies will cause him to fall quite hopelessly in love, once it happens. He's been silently harboring some warmfuzzy affection for an older harper since he was twelve - but he's keeping that under his hat for now.
This young man is quite curious and attentive - always noticing the little interesting bits about people that others seem to overlook. He's often the only friend of a person who others would call a loner or outcast because he can see a little spark of warmth or intelligence in them that others can't. Such people don't always take well to Hayden popping up at random times and trying to put a smile on their face - but most of them eventually grow fond of him. Unfortunately, if someone doesn't warm up to him Hayden doesn't really know when to call it quits. He'll keep pursuing that possibility of a smirk or a bubble of laughter until he gets it (or a black eye). Very little discourages this young man, and one might call him naive or foolish for it.
He doesn't tolerate anyone giving him a hard time - not about his height or his talent. That being said, this kid is quite scrappy for his size and is very protective of his friends and those who can't defend themselves. If he hears someone gossiping about him, or anyone else, he'll confront them straightaway; he was even pummeled a few times in his early adolescence for biting off more than he could chew. This same determined, serious side of him is what gives the boy a strangely mysterious air. He holds his friends close to his heart, but always keeps them at a slight distance. Not because of trust issues, there's just a part of him that he's keeping to himself until he finds the right person.
History: Born the youngest of three children to two very happy, healthy harpers, Hayden grew up a very confident child and quickly blossomed into a talented adolescent. His older siblings are several turns older than he is, so they had moved out by the time he was about eight, but his family is still very close. Because of his friendly personality, Hayden has many old, close friends - but they all know to give him his space when he needs it. It's not that the kid is moody; he's just so artistic that he often needs quiet time to himself in order to compose new songs. These "quiet times" are necessary whenever he gets a burst of creativity, and can even happen right in the middle of lunch.
When Hayden was just ten, there was an accidental fire at his uncle's stable. Being the helpful, brave young youth that he is - Hayden immediately went to save the horses. Some sparks flew into his left eye and damaged it so that it absorbs too much light. He used to wear an eye patch during the sunniest parts of the day, but soon decided he didn't like the way people treated him because of his 'handicap' - so now he rarely wears the eye patch. The damaged eye mostly just affects his depth perception - but it sometimes causes pain when the sun is very high in the sky so he carries around a red handkerchief to tie over his eye when needed.
Talents: Singing, singing, singing. Dancing. Playing various instruments. Storytelling. Putting a smile on most people's face. He's also quite good at calming moody flits.
