It was hot. War stood there, her eyes moving from her brother to the watering hole back to her brother. She waited. Her tongue was dry and she was almost sure that if she tried to say something it may just brake. She looked around and glowered. There was no one at the hole. She huffed. "Would you just go get a drink already..."
Bat looked at her as if she had gone mad. He was suffering all the same ailments as his sister. "I told you... Ladies first." He raised his head and snorted. "Would you please... go get a drink."
War Stories huffed again and shook her head, "You think i need to get a drink first because im a girl... well your wrong... you first."
"I aint no lady."
War glared. And they were back to their silent staring contest in the blistering heat.

Siska had left his son in a small glade of trees, nestled within the edge of the forest, much like their old home but still so different. He still didn't trust the open spaces outside of the trees' reach, especially with leaving his son by himself. However, the small patch of woods had sufficed for shelter, and since they had traveled at night, he left Konue to sleep while he scouted the new territory.
Unfortunately, the day was warmer than usual, and as he was traveling he began to look for some body of water to cool off in. So far, the grasslands had been bare except for random bunches of trees and bushes here and there. Thankfully, he hadn't seen any horses from the Hell herd.
Voices ahead sparked his attention, and he moved slowly, giving himself a wide breadth. However, when he saw the normal looking coats of two almost identical looking horses, standing at the edge of a small pond, he decided to investigate. He hadn't met any strangers yet, so it'd be nice if these two had advice to offer about conditions of that particular area.
He walked slowly towards them, eying their strong forms, and realized that they must be siblings. Strange, though--the mare was heavily muscled, more like a stallion than a mare. But her features held a fierce beauty that spoke of her femininity, despite the fact that she looked strong enough to bowl him over.

Battle counted in his need to release tension... "Fine you win..." He tossed his head back and moved toward the water. He flicked his tail and glanced around before lowering his head to drink. He had seen the other horse coming up... but he wasn't worried. War would watch his back... she always had before.
War watched her brother with a smug satisfaction. Then she looked around to keep watch while her brother drank... it was their safety thing... Once a large cat had attacked Battle while he was drinking. He had been out of the sight of the 'herd' of Indian horses.... She stomped her foot. The fact that it looked intimidating didn't occur to her until she spotted the approaching stallion. He looked normal... not like some of those dead horses... She threw up her head to call a greeting. "Hello friend!" She flicked her tail while waiting for the other to cross the distance between them.
Battle had made his way back up the bank to stand beside her. While he didn't tend to jump to the idea of fighting. He knew him and his sister could make an intimidating force.
War glanced at her brother. Lucky duck...she should have taken the first drink.... now she had to socialize with her insides drying up.

Siska slowed when he was a few body lengths away from the two strangers, allowing his muscles to relax into a non-threatening pose. The female seemed more enthusiastic about their meeting than the male, who seemed to be eying Siska like he could be some enemy. Siska knew that feeling though--his younger years had been full of doubt and distaste. Only his ordeal with Aelah had made made him more apt to socialize.
Siska nodded to the two, his soft white mane brushing against his eyes. "Greetings," he stated, trying to attempt a smile but hardly succeeding. He didn't smile often... that was a downside of his demeanor. He eyed the two horses' pelts curiously, wondering how they had acquired them.
"I am a stranger in these parts. I've come traveling with my son, for our normal home was falling into the reach of that infernal herd of undead horses. I'm not sure if you know of them, but their presence is spreading. They are... not a thing I want to mess with on my own." He gave a little shake of his head, embarrassed to admit that he was actually scared of the leader of that herd, but he brushed it away.
"My name is Siska. I'm glad to see more souls in this area. Tell me, are you from around here?"

The siblings glanced at each other. War flicked her ears. "I guess you could say we are from around here..." She flicked her tail and then nodded. "I understand... I haven't seen any of the walking dead in the last few days...." She nodded and glanced at Battle. "My name is War Stories... and this is my Brother Battle Stories." Bat stomped the ground at his name.
Battle Stories looked around. "Where is this son of yours?" He frowned. If this horses son was a threat he wanted to know about it. He and his sister had taken up residence in a field near by. It was protected and safe... and Battle didn't want strangers coming in to muck things up.
War was too busy looking the new stallion over head to toe to realize her brother's growing Aura... he was beginning to look bigger and stronger... much like the brave war horse he was. War never really had any....womanly urges... however this stallion really was a looker. And thoughts unbidden plagued War's mind until he said he was traveling with his son. "Oh....yeah... please, if you are traveling you must be thirsty... Are you heading anywhere in particular?"

Siska nodded, almost relieved that these two knew of the horses of the Hell Herd. When he had met their leader, he had been ignorant and thought that the whole experience was a dream. As time went on, he realized that it was quite the contrary.
He looked to Battle, noticing the stallion's growing uneasiness. It made Siska's own fur stand on edge, as if readying for a fight, but he knew that he was outmatched by the much more muscled stallion. Strange... the mare was so kind and sociable, yet the stallion seemed to be suspicious of him. Did he really look like such a threat?
"I left my son a ways back. We travel during the night, so he's most likely sleeping. It's hard on him, traveling like this. But... things were becoming dark in our first home." He looked to War, giving a small nod. Now that he thought about it, he was thirsty. Hungry, too, though he often forgot about his own needs when he sought to care for his son.
"Well, yes, I am thirsty. And we're not really heading anywhere certain. I'm only looking for a place that's safe. Or... or a place were we can band up with others. It's becoming increasingly unsafe to travel alone these days." He walked forward, keeping an eye on the stallion, but offering a small smile. He bent and drank from the pool, relishing the feel of the cool water, flicking his tail. Perhaps it was wrong to turn his back on them so soon, but he trusted the mare. He felt that he could even make a friend of her.

War bounced slightly. She had the bad habit of trusting everyone... her brother on the other hand needed to have them prove themselves first. War nodded to he brother as she followed the thread of conversation. "You should get some rest too... it can't be good for you to go all day and all night."
Watching the stallion moving toward the water she was reminded once again how thirsty she was. Raising her chin she walked to the water... there ladies last.He brother stayed at the top of the bank keeping watch.
War picked her way down to join the male. She drank deeply. When she finished she raised her head and looked to the male. "Why not travel with us... we are never bothered... and my brother took down one of their herd... just a week ago..." She smiled. "Plus i love children... and would love to meet your son"

Siska's head popped up at her invitation. He was surprised to hear her ask him to join them. He had expected some advice perhaps, maybe even directions. But not an invitation, especially with the way Battle was staring him down. Then again, he was growing increasingly aware that War was the leader of the two in their little pack, and the fact that she spoke in such a diplomatic manner backed it up.
"Perhaps..." he muttered quietly, thinking. He watched as War's tussled mane drifted in the breeze, his eyes once again drawn to the pelt on her back. The two of them seemed at least able to protect themselves... and if they had already fought a member of the Hell Herd, why not trust them? Yes, they were still strangers, but Siska no longer felt the want to be alone, especially with his son at his side. If not him, then Konue needed others he could be around, and not the constant fear of crossing paths with some monster. And, maybe, just maybe, they'd find a home with the two, and could start sleeping at night again.
"Your offer is quite generous," he finally said, nodding his head. "It would be best for us to travel with strong companions as yourselves. Of course, I can lend help when needed, but I'm thinking that you might be a little more experienced with battle than I." It was a truthful statement. He didn't mean to embarrass them, or even flatter them, but if he was going to band with them, he didn't want them to think he'd be dead weight.
"My son would love to meet you, I'm sure. He's not that old, but has seen much turmoil in his life. It'd do him good to socialize with someone normal for a change."
He glanced back at the way he had come, thinking of Konue alone in the woods. "I shall have to fetch him soon. I've never liked leaving him alone when I scout. Also... I believe I am starting to feel the weight of the past few days." He gave a little sigh, realizing that he'd hardly slept. Maybe he should rest, as War had offered. But not before he returned to Konue.

She watched the male. He seemed surprised. As well he should be... she had just met the poor thing not what... half a moment ago. She flicked her ears slightly embarrassed. "Im sorry that was very forward of me..." She looked up at battle who watched for anything out of the ordinary. "the thought was Battle and i are good with kids... and well you need some sleep... so having another set of watchful eyes may be best for... for your son..." She nodded and then glanced to Battle. He wouldn't hesitate to throw a fit. But she would tell him once the other had headed back to where ever he had stashed his son.
Well, he hadn't said no out right. War... obviously, didn't take no well. Her brother had tried to tell her no about the drinking thing... she had won that debate. War bobbed her head slightly and then watched the stallion try to puzzle out the pros and cons.... She respected him off the bat for that. It was a clever way to win a battle.
She smiled. "It will be great to have your company... while i love my brother dearly... he tends to be bull headed and talking becomes increasingly intolerable." Of course she jested for the most part... but as of late, battle had been becoming more and more serious.
"As for help... we graze when we want however we bed down at the same time...The only thing that we will expect help from is watching our backs..." She nodded to battle. "we never lower our heads at the same time... as to not give the enemy the chance to attack..." She shrugged. "So you watch our backs... and we will watch out for you and your son..."
She had to offer a sad smile. "That seems to be the way of life... Much too much pain." She flicked her tail and started moving back up the bank to meet up with Bat.
She smiled however as he spoke his last statements. "Battle and i shall be here until morning tomorrow and then we will move on..."She glanced at Siska. "We are looking for the perfect place to call our home." She reached out and nudged him slightly. "Go... I shall see you and your son early tomorrow..." She frowned. "It will be a hard day tomorrow... but we will take it slow."

(lol ok)
Siska nodded to War, following her up the slope towards where her brother stood. "I've had my share of stand-offs, and I've grown used to protecting my son. I'm sure I can watch your backs effectively, even if I'm not so experienced as you seem to be." He gave a short chuckle, but then caught the look on the other stallion's face. He had a feeling that the two did not always agree on their decisions, and that War made most of those.
"Very well, War. I will be back as soon as possible. Again, I appreciate this. You've given me a great opportunity and I think my son will be the better for it. Thank you." He nodded to Battle, then turned away, setting off at a gallop, feeling a slight urge to show his speed to the twins. He may not be as muscled as they were, but he was still strong, and very fast.
He headed towards the grove where his son slept, ready to share the enlightening news. ___________________________________________________________________________
In the morning, all had been explained, though Konue was still a bit confused as to why his usually shadowy father was placing his trust in two he had just met. However, he was excited to meet two more horses, for he hadn't met many in his short life. And Siska had said that the female liked foals. Perhaps she'd be willing to play with him?
The pace back to the twins was slower for Konue's sake, but they still made good time over the mostly flat grassland. Siska sighed when he saw the pond from yesterday, knowing that they shouldn't be far. Or... at least he hoped. He didn't really know his way around the area.
"Over here, Konue," he said, slowing down to a lope, heading towards the shining water. His son followed willingly, his tiny tail bouncing in excitement.
"Are they here, father? I don't see anyone... where are they? I thought you said they were big?" He looked around, wondering where the two large war horses must be. His heart beat with excitement, yet at the same time, apprehension.
"They will find us, Konue. Be patient," Siska murmured, his eyes scanning the grass.

War watched the sun rise over the large hill that blocked the bond and the fields from her view. She sighed. her brother and herself had planned to go over the mountain today. She knew the hell herd lived at its base but she couldn't help the feeling that her home lived just on the other side.
While she didn't regret that she offered for Siska and his son to come along... she did regret the extra miles they would have to go. She glanced over to where her brother was sleeping.
"Wake up battle... we have to go meet Siska..." She smiled and then nudged her brother before heading up over the hill. She knew her brother would be along shortly.
War was greeted by the two horses standing by the pond. She called an announcement that she was there and then made her way down to the pond. "Siska.... you must be his son..." She tossed her head and the wind caught her mane. "Im War Stories... What is your name?" She smiled.
Battle had stirred as his sister left. He sighed and followed aft her. He came over the hill and then picked his way down to the trio... His ears twitched as he listened to War's voice.

Siska smiled as he saw the familiar dark shape of the mare returning over the hill, her hair whipping wildly about her neck in the wind. In that moment, he lost his usual barrier and couldn't help but think how she looked like something from a legend: an angel of battle, beautiful yet deadly. He could see the strength in her muscles, yet the graceful slope of her feminine face. His eyes settled on the cat pelt once again, and he came back into focus.
"Greetings, War. Good to see you again." He reached down to Konue, who seemed to be staring at the large mare with sudden intensity, and nusged him forward. "Speak, son. She is talking to you."
Konue stared up at the mare, realizing that his father had been telling the truth. She was big--not fat, as some older mares were, but muscled and defined. She looked just as strong as any stallion, if not more. And the pelt on her back... it was terrifying. How did one come across a cat like that and live?
"Er... em... I'm... Konue," he murmured, slightly awed. Then his face warmed with embarrassment, and he lowered his head. "Sorry, m'am. I... I don't mean to be rude. You're... not like any mares I've seen. "
He realized that his comment could be considered rude, and his head popped up. "I didn't mean that in a bad way though! You're amazing. You look like you could take down a cougar with no help."

War grinned at the two and especially at Konue. "Well its very nice to meet you..." She grinned at his embarrassment. . "But thats ok... " She grinned. "No i'm much prettier and much stronger then any other mares." He voice held a teasing tone but it was still one of those things that she tended to lie about. In truth many of the horses she had met had talked to her readily until they had found out that she was a mare. Stupid sexist horses...
She mentally snorted and looked back to the little foal. "So mr.konue.... You up for along walk today?" War glanced up at Siska and tossed her head. "We are gonna start our trek around the mountain." She glanced up at the looming figure walking down the slope. "Battle has agreed to take the safer way..." She grinned and playfully nudged the foal. "There is a lovely lake for swimming in.... " Standing straight she turned to siska. "I hope you don't mind taking the slightly longer way.... there are more safer spots to rest..."
She glanced up. "Bat... come meet Konue... He is a very polite little foal." Her hair flipped slightly as the breeze caught it.
Battle walked down and glanced at Siska before turning his attention to Konue. He nodded and then gave half a smile. "You have a cute kid Siska..." he twitched his tail and looked at War. "Whenever you are ready i feel we should leave.... it will only get hotter as the day progresses."
War nodded and glanced at Siska and Konue. "If you think you are set to go... we should start."

Siska stared down at his son with a half amused and half proud expression. Though Konue was still young and inexperienced at the rules of society, he handled himself quite well for a foal that had not interacted with many other souls than his stoic father for the whole of his life. Siska felt a slight pang of guilt, knowing that his independent lifestyle had been selfish, but swore to himself that he would change. Even now, when his spine tingled with unease at the thought of being out in the open, he was happy to see his son in high spirits.
Konue looked back up at the mare, still a bit sheepish, and gave a small grin. "A walk? I like to walk!" he said enthusiastically, giving a wider smile. Finally, some adventure? Sounded good to him!
Siska nodded to War, gazing at the mountains in the distance. "I will follow you with complete trust. I've had my taste of travel, but I'm afraid that the only knowledge of this place I have is from you. If you know a way, I will follow." The words sounded strange even to him as they left his mouth, but something about this mare left no distrust in his heart. For some reason, he was completely willing to follow her.
Siska glanced at Battle as he joined the group, giving a small nod. "Thank you..." he replied, nudging Konue on the shoulder. The foal gave a grin, glad to be the center of attention, and left to staring at the stallion's large cat pelt.
"Lead the way," Siska stated, and left all of his insecurities behind.

War glanced between her three traveling companions and nodded. "Alright... I guess we are off then." She had shivered as siska spoke about complete trust... She didn't even completely trust her brother. Flicking her tail she nodded and then glanced at Konue... "Come on...I'll race you to the trees."
Bat snorted and watched as his sister became quiet. She never got quiet...He blamed the new stallion. Snorting again he shuffled his feet and flicked his tail before chasing after war....
