Danique Espirenze

Stats:

Age: 20's
Sex: Female
Powers: Summoner, untrained
Race: Human, Nationality: Dalkanian
World Setting: Dalkania, original setting - high fantasy

About your character:

I have fled most of my adult life... running from one danger into the next, always with the pursuit close. Those in power would have you believe I am a traitor, but they only use this lie as their weapon to bind me to them. It is my power they desire.

Within my body is the last remaining blood of the great summoners - the power to control the Ancient Dragon, Arbiter of Justice, once wielded in the protection of the innocent and vulnerable lesser races: We humans.

I say once wielded because it has been many years since the dragon has been wakened from his slumber, hidden away from the world... many generations past my ancestors decided that it would be best for mankind to guide itself... the knowledge was carefully passed down to each new summoner. My mother died trying to control the dragon against our enemies with that carefully kept knowledge, but unpracticed power.

It is the greatest irony that I am wanted for that which I do not possess: the dragon... cursed with a power that I do not know how to use to protect myself against the very thing it is meant to control. The dragon hunts me even now; I am the last with his leash. It will not be long before one end or another finds me.

Death:

What a strange place to find myself in... I do not remember arriving here, but that does not surprise me. Dezrek must have brought me here; I hope he returns quickly - we must get back.

Dezrek is my dragon... or rather, I may be his. Sometimes I wonder. He did find me, finally, but not in the way I had imagined. It was good for us both he was too cautious to end me immediately - I am the last Summoner, which means the last person who can return him to his original world. Or so I had hoped. It was the basis of our bargain - he would help me and I would free him. Our partnership was very chaotic at first, very challenging. Together we made it work... with our goals in mind. What we did not forsee was that those goals might change. As time went on, both of us, unfortunately, grew closer. I wanted less and less to return him to his world, and I began to hope he felt the same...

I want to speak to him, to let him know my feelings.. but battle has ever been upon us. This last was the worst. The skies were almost black with our enemies. I do not remember the pain of our fall, in the heat of a fight pain is a distant thing - although I remember my wounds were grave, as were Dezrek's. He is a mighty dragon, but nature shows even ants, in a swarm, can take down a larger adversary.

Whatever the case, my wounds have been tended to... and I am in this strange place. I hope the healing did not take long, we must return to the fight. I probably should wait for Dezrek here, but I cannot wait any longer. Perhaps the inhabitants will be able to tell me more of where he has gone.

Fate

Darkness came quickly today. There was no trace of Dezrek, and now I am beginning to worry. The people here are so strange; the most perplexing answers I received in reply to my questions - and some of them only gave me an odd look for my trouble. I was treated well, given food and hospitality, invited into their lives, but whenever I brought up my own troubles it was like it suddenly felt very uncomfortable, as though I had made some social misstep. Finally I just gave up altogether questioning anyone.

Praying to God always brought me peace in my youth. After everything I now know, though... well it has been a long time since I have prayed for guidance. They say that the righteous and the faithful will live forever in heaven, and that God is always watching over us. But I have often wondered lately, if that means only humans.

What will happen to Dezrek when I am gone? I cannot live forever. And when he is gone... where will he go? Back to his world...? Or perhaps he will finally have his freedom on this world. I wonder if it would mean anything to him without me. This is the first time in a very long time we have been apart, and I already feel a deep loneliness.

And so, as I pray, my mind continues to be drawn to one thing. When I die... will I be alone in heaven?

Nathanyal

Stats:
Full Name: Claims to have forgotten, known simply as 'Nath'.
Age: Claims to have forgotten.
Sex: Male
Career: Full-time hermit, part time sock-knitter and hydromancer.

Race: 'Demon' - named by the other races in order to create fear of them amongst non-magic humans.

World Setting: Ethereal is a world of magic and monsters, boasting five distinct cultures - dragons, mages, priests, demons and humans, as well as the near-extinct Fae. These peoples are usually at odds, causing testion and troubles and occasionally war.

About your character
Nathanyal hatched many hundreds of years ago, along and afraid, as many demons at that time found themselves. Without a parent or guardian, the weak and unlucky do not survive long, but Nathanyal was found by an old demon man who took him under his wing and became his guardian. He had one other apprentice, a demon boy named Lias; as they grew up together, Nath fell in love with him, drawn to Lias' strength and confidence. Although Lias cared for Nath he did not truely love him and used the feelings that his companion had to abuse and manipulate him into doing what he wanted.

Their master, Tuavor, was the latest in a series of Guardians, charged with protecting an ancient rift in the world's magic. Looking carefully at his two apprentices, he finally chose the mild-mannered Nath, believing Lias to be too ambitious to give it the proper care. He did not take the news well and blamed Nath, vowing he would one day 'get even'.

Nath was afraid of Lias, but he tried for many years not to think about the threat as he settled into the routine of life, but eventually Lias tried to make good on his promise; he attacked Nath and although the man did escape it was not without injury and the experience left him shaken. He chose to isolate himself, moving to a cave on the continent's southern coast, where he would keep safe the world's secrets that he is caretaker for.

Death:
Nathanyal lived all of the rest of his life by the ocean's edge; alone, aside from the odd wanderer, with his magic and his thoughts. A hydromancer, he used the water around him to tap into the world's steam of life and magic that flows through every living thing on Ethereal, as the drops of water do, each carrying a memory of the things they have touched. In his spare time to taught himself to knit and to cook, and collected any interesting knick-knacks he found washed up on the beach. So was his life.

To Nath, death is not the end; although he doesn't believe in a heaven or a hell, he is not afraid, because he knows that his body and his magic will be reabsorbed into the world, forever making him a part of it within the new life that grows. He will be quite surprised to see Serendipity.

His death came from infection after being bitten by a fish; he passed in his sleep, dreaming of being eaten by a sock monster. But, still, happy and although he had no one to pass on his secrets - leaving the rift without a Guardian - perhaps it is the best way to ensure that the information never falls into the wrong hands.

Fate
One day, same as any other, a man who was walking along the beach collapsed in fever brought on by the rain and heavy cold winds; instead of going on the fishing trip that would have ended his life so suddenly, Nath stopped to help the poor sickened man. He nursed him to health, taking care of him until he was well, and the man, a travelling bard named Jelir, tried to encourage Nath to come with him when he left, feeling sorry for his isolation and lonliness. Eventually he managed to quell his fears and they set out together, heading for the mage capital city and though it was a long journey they did eventually reach it, having had several adventures along the way and forming a romantic relationship between one another. Once there, Nath began to feel more secure and safe from Lias; he opened a store, selling knitted socks, ensuring that no mage would have to suffer from cold feet as long as he lived, and offered his services in hydromancy in order to help protect the city from potential harm.

D. Blakely

Stats: Birth: Minor Nobility
Career: B-list Villian
Best Trait: His Hair
Worst Trait: All the rest
Race: Human from Athkaine
World Setting: Dalkania, early in the timeline (second age)

About
Blakely was a bit character which came to life during the first OOC. He was my overzealous, brutal villain. He works for the powerful and dangerous, Erinia, who he knows only as Great Mistress.

Blakely was born minor nobility, however for the murder of his beloved sister's vile husband he was sent to prison where he quickly descended to the depths of the worst scum around. After getting out of prison, and then the army, he continued on to live the easy but dangerous life of a criminal. He's good at it, and he relishes winning against an adversary.

Due to past experience, Blakely has a great distrust of women, considering most females to be his enemy on sight. He's not gay, he just really hates women. Working for a woman now does not sit well with him, and he fantasizes quite a bit about killing her, even though that would be a permanent end to his career.

Death
Some day Blakely will die. But it is not today. He has definitely been in any number of instances where he could have or should have died, and so I guess he is a bit lucky on that score. This time Blakely has been dragged to Serendipity with Erinia, his Great Mistress. Right now they are guests of the Lady of Cerxes.

Fate
The planes surrounding Earth are like great vast entities - three dimensional floating vaporous masses which connect to each other at their edges, or in some instances share the same space. They float through the physical shapes of the universe since they are not on the same dimension.

Hell, is the closest dimension to Earth, in fact it floats right through it, sharing the same space at its core, the abyss stretching past and around it. In order for a soul to make its way to the heavenly retreat which awaits it (in Blakely's case this would be heaven), the soul must make it through Hell without getting trapped. Depraved and immoral souls have a very hard time making it through. The worse off the soul is, or rather more in tune with Hell, the less the chance of making it through.

Blakely's soul would never make it out.

Sadye Love

User Image

Sadye Ayende
    Stats:
  • Age: 64, appears mid-20's
  • Gender: Female
  • Strengths/Powers: Good at gathering info and thinking on her feet, minor demon abilities (magical darkness, fear effect), amulet (temporary disguise for her up to two of her odd features)
  • Weaknesses: Heat, her curiosity, good brandy
  • Race: Tanar'ling (a humanoid of demonic/tanar'ri descent. Sadye is 1/4 dretch 1/4 human and 1/2 sidhe)
  • World Setting: Sigil, the City of Doors aka the Cage, a planar city in the middle of the multiverse.

About your character
In a place like the City of Doors anything can happen, and if a cutter isn't wise enough to know who's who and what's what they can end up in the deadbook very fast. That's where Sadye comes in. Having grown up in the ever strange anything-can-happen streets of Sigil, she knows the ins and outs and is willing to fill you in...for a fee.

Sadye herself grew up under the care of a fiend conjurer who owned a shop in the city's bazaar. He found her in the streets of Sigil after her mother left her in the bazaar as a child and thinking that with all his experience dealing with fiends he could properly raise one, he took her in. Years down the road while Sadye was still young but starting to come into her own, her surrogate father disappeared without warning and despite oftentimes searching, Sadye has never been able to turn up hide nor hair of him or the reasons why he left.

Death:
While most of her business is conducted in the streets of Sigil's Lower Ward, they don't call Sigil the City of Doors for nothing. The entire city is an ever shifting sea of portals (you never know when that next door you step through might send you straight to hell...literally!), so Sadye is no stranger to walking the planes and this time should have been no different. The problem was, the portal Sadye wandered through was unstable and collapsing on itself. As she stepped through it the last thing she remembered was a horrible tearing feeling as if she were being pulled apart and the sound of her own screaming. By all rights to her knowledge she should be all sorts of dead and disintegrated, but instead she's found herself here on Serendipity left with the questions of what happened, where is she, and is she actually dead or alive?

Fate
While Sadye has not descended into the depravity of her fiendish ancestry, she is also no golden-hearted halo either. Since she worships no god (believing that if the Lady of Pain can strip them of their powers in Sigil then why do they need her bowing and scraping to them and telling her how to live) her soul would be relegated either, ironically enough, to the Outlands (the neutral plane where the spire city of Sigil is located to begin with) or to Limbo (the resting place of chaotic souls which are neither good nor evil). While it could be said that Sadye would miss Cagey, the rogue modron, and Shiv, the barkeep at her favorite place, the inverse can't be said to be true. In fact the only person who might indeed miss her would be her sometimes-planeswalking partner-in-crime, the sorceress Rin. However, even then if Sadye isn't in Limbo or the Outlands, then the powers alone know how Rin might find her if she even bothered to look.
