Shinta barely realized where his feet were taking him as he followed his master down the various hallways. Tears still welled in his eyes, but he refused to let any of them fall. His fists flinched as he passed walls, trying his damnedest not to punch them. Part of him felt he should be ashamed of his actions, that he was going to pay for the impromptu demolition, but otherwise he was too strung up to care.

"In here," master Dai beckoned as he held a door open for his student. Shinta kept his eyes lowered as he passed his teacher into the next room. It took him a moment to realize where he had been lead. The padded matting and the walls decorated with various weapons lay out before him as it had everyday since he arrived at Kagehara. He realized also that they were not alone. Yuukie sat off to the side, her back to them.

"Sit," master Dai commanded motioning to the mat near his rival.

"Master, I don't think-"

"You are not suppose to think. As my student you are to trust what your master tells you," his master countered shortly. Walking to the sliding doors, he threw them open to reveal the stone garden beyond. It was still raining out side and puddles gathered on the dueling mat near its center. Without further coaxing, Shinta sat silently down on the mat with his legs crossed under him.

"I am. . . very disappointed in both of you," he began as he looked out at the garden. Shinta couldn't help the cringe. After the stunt he had just pulled, he'd be lucky if he wasn't expelled.

"How could you let this happen to you, so close to the deadline? Have you no pride for the school you are representing?" he asked in clipped tones keeping his back to them.

Yuukie didn't say anything at first. Keeping quite she took the tape that had been in her pocket out and taped Shinta's hands. "Live life to the fullest, never regret anything. On and off the mat...." Rubbing the back's of Shinta's hands so they would have proper blood flow. Giving him a soft smile and taking the time to wipe his face off with the back of her sleeve.

"We got into an argument...it was mostly my fault...I didn't mean to set him off....I should have know better then to taunt my rival and my friend...I take full responsibility for both of our actions."

Since the master still wasn't looking at them she would slightly tear up. "The rest of my scholarship money should pay for any damages. Going along with that it will only be appropriate if I step down from my position as a demonstrator. We discussed this a few weeks ago, letting a fighter that represents the class and the student body."

Yuukie really wasn't trying to show off this time, she really didn't want him to get expelled. This was all her fault, her stupid fault for liking him. Even if this school was her home, it was time for her to face facts. Two people in the whole school actually talked to her. The master and Shinta.....there was more then enough wrong with that.

"Anyway I don't think I have much of a future in fighting....that dancing school that's been after me for a while. I could transfer there.....After all its much harder for woman to be considered fights, its goes against the older codes. The monks told me that, anyway dancing isn't that much different...it would be a nice new challenge."

Yuukie really did feel this was her fault, and honestly she didn't care if it was or wasn't. This was the easiest way to get things done, right now she was cutting the best way to the finish line for everyone. Shinta wouldn't get expelled and could keep fighting, she would no longer be hated by the school, and master would still have one of his star pupils. It was only a matter of time before Shinta beat her anyway. All the fact she had been thinking over for a while now.

(facepalm)

"That is unacceptable," their master replied as he placed his hands behind his back in contemplation. As he stood there in silence, Shinta took the moment to look up from the floor and smile softly to Yuukie. She had set aside what had happened between them and was now wrapping his hands. Even as he thought about the damage he'd done his knuckles ached from the abuse.

"A true warrior does not lay down his sword merely because he is seen in a bout of weakness, miss Yuukie. Shinta, do you want to lay aside your dreams and ambitions because of this?"

"Of course not sir," he had responded with a look of horror.

"Then I expect your partner to show the same conviction. It is far too easy for partners to fall out of sync, when they are bound to each others fate. The world itself will work against you if you let it," master Dai explained. Turning back to face them, Shinta realized that the old man did not look angry at all. In fact he looked rather sad.

"It is not your destructive power that worries me Shinta, but the cause behind it," he explained in soft tones. "Seeing you like this shows me that somehow or other you two have become at odds. Something that has happened is causing strife and that will lead to ruin in this world." Taking a step forward, the old man swung his arms around to meet gently together like a monk in prayer.

"You must stand together united if you are to pass this test."

Yuukie sighed and looked at the ground. Really she had just wished she hadn't gone to train today. Not only had she lost Master's praise now, but she looked like an idiot. Keeping her posture straight and her and her hands folded in her lap, even in her sweat pants and shirt she was like a perfect doll. In reality she was screaming at herself. Someone had said something cruel about her, it upset her leading Shinta to get upset.

"Master.......I don't think I have what to takes to be a fighter anymore. I've let my emotions get in they way to many times. I have fallen out of sync....."

Letting her shoulders drop, she just wanted to make everything better again. It hadn't been this confusing a few weeks ago, but why was it now. In the end she was a girl with a foolish heart. Even right now in the back of her mind she wanted nothing more for Shinta to forgive her. Yuukie want to pass this test with him, she wanted to be all better.....she wanted them to be together. "I don't believe we were ever bound by fate. Fate would always push us together again, like magnets....not us though, we are always pushing each other back. Right Shinta?"

"I guess you could say that. I always thought that something was always pushing us together, despite our efforts otherwise," Shinta admitted with a shrug. "But I don't think that leaving would really help matters anyway," Shinta added haughtily. Looking at her through the corner of one eye, he crossed his arms and nodded sagely. "That would be pretty selfish indeed, leaving me to finish this alone just cause you think you can't take the heat."

"That is nonsense my dear," their master chided. "Every fighter has moments where they feel unworthy. It is in finding that inner strength to push onward despite your shortcomings that truly show your worth."

"Now, enough of this talk of leaving. Negativity begets negativity. You two have training that will help you to regain your synchronicity," master Dai decided as he looked back out at the dueling mat.

"So off with it, you two. Right here on the main floor so I can watch," the old man commanded as he settled himself near the sliding doors. "You can't hope to work things out unless you sweat a little."

(You know. . . after typing that I realized it has a few innuendos. Not that I'll change it, cause it's still awesome. . . just saying. lol)

Yuukie sat there and just stared back and forth between them. "I give the school that hates me the option of me leaving...they turn it down....what is the world coming to." Shaking her head as she walked to her end of the mat.

Pulling off her sweat shirt since she had another shirt under it. "Just don't think I'm going to go easy on you. You are a big boy I think you can handle it." She added more then happily as she did a quick stretch.

Quickly going over everything in her head, making notes and calculations in her mind. Smiling more and more as she watched her opponent. She like him yes, she more then liked him, but that didn't mean she would ever go easy on him. They where both to good for that, anyway she would enjoy nursing him back to health. "Oh and my phone magically showed up again. I think I'm going to spend a lot of time tonight listening to every single message you sent me....it might take a few hours though...."

Yuukie really was teasing now, it just meant she was back in the game. how could she not mess with him though. This was their game, and no one else could interferer, sure Master was there only to make sure they didn't kill each other....and other reasons Yuukie never really cared about.

"Buildings can't hate," Shinta countered as he bonked her lightly on the head. Going to the side, he slips off his shoes and takes off his shirt. Bouncing on the balls of his feet, he faces off with his rival.

"Ha. Bring it on little missy. We are out of the rain this time, so no room for screwing up," he countered mockingly.

He didn't stop to stretch, nor did he wait for them to officially begin. Shinta just tossed his still damp seaweed colored hair away from his face and lunged towards Yuukie. The adrenaline rushed through his system for the second time that day. He loved the thrill of a fight. Loved the feel of his body moving at will to meet an opponent.

"Here I come," he announced heatedly as he spun in a showy roundhouse kick.

Dropping to the ground she took hold of his leg with one arms. Then she popped right back taking away his force. "That's not what you where saying earlier." She whispered in a hushed voice. Holding on tightly to his leg, she wasn't planning on losing this time.

She stared at him straight in the eyes while her side vision to watch him. Actually she wouldn't mind ending up in a hospital bed again if he was there. She wasn't distracted though, she kept her eyes glued to him.

Shinta attempted to pull away, his face flushing a beet red. But he was not about to be distracted to easily. Realizing that she wasn't about to give him his leg back, Shinta switched tactics.

Leaning back, he let his upper body fall back to feed the momentum for his other foot that he brought up aimed at her chin. She had only a moment to either take the hit and risk having her jaw dislocated, or letting his other foot down which would change his angle and make him miss entirely. It was a dirty move, but he needed his legs more than she needed her jaw at the moment. Not that he really wanted her to choose the option that would hurt her if it was easily avoided though.

"You're taking things out of context again," he drawled lazily.

Letting go of his leg she rocked backwards to miss his leg before rocking forward and pinned him to the mat. "I'm pretty sure you enjoy it though." She couldn't help mess with him, after all it really was only fair.

Making sure to keep him pinned down she waited on high alert. He had dug a hole for himself, and she was taking full advantage of it right now. She didn't know what happened now honestly to tell the truth.

((Sorry I just had to, even if its really short.))

"Stop!" their master cried. Shinta froze in place, both his hands relaxing under her grip. He panted lightly as his blood pressure continued to pound in a rush.

"This is precisely what I am talking about!" he growled as he strode over to the still combatants. "Before, you were able to read each others moves perfectly. Now, it seems that one, or both of you has lost that."

After a few more tense moments where he parted them and gave each instructions, their master went back to his place and snapped at them to restart.

"Again!"

Yuukie took a deep breathe, now she really wished she had never told him her secret. "Maybe he should have just laughed at me. Would have save more trouble in the end." She muttered to herself as she got back up and went to her end of the mat.

"Think of me as the snobby know it all, that you know I am. Nothing's honestly has changed if you think about it." It was true, it wasn't like he had asked her out. Just a few kisses and a lot of teasing. It wasn't like anything had ever really changed for her.

Yuukie had always held an affection for Shinta, pretty much since the first few times they had fought. Keeping it hidden, was just normal for her anyway. In the end she would be happy if the were always and forever rivals. It meant that she at least meant something. Not another face, but not the apple of his eye. It was better then nothing.

"I'm going to give you all I got, if I fail just don't spit on me."

Shinta waited at his end of the mat until their master demanded they resume. Her words stung, though he knew she meant to only get his mind on the task at hand. With one last breath to clear himself, he met her in the middle.

"I don't think so," he muttered as he closed his emerald eyes.

When he opened them, they were to meet hers steadily. Mind blank, he let his body perform the motions they were set to without pause. It was like going in a trance for him. His mind felt detached from the fight, watching from within.

This detachment allowed him to read her moves and fluidly counter or position himself around them. It was part of his families branch of techniques, the ability to detach ones awareness to better analyze their opponent. It was only useful, however, when their bodies could manage the moves without their conscious effort.

To Shinta, who mastered his own form of modern transition, this made his movements like water. Using the flow of one move to better enhance the power of another combined with his ability to detach himself allowed him to successfully maneuver around Yukkie without her landing a single hit.

This did not mean that he managed to hit her throughout the routine. Like all good partners, he knew she was wise to his tricks. That, and their performance was more for show, not like in a competition match where they needed to land certain blows.

(Sorry it took so long. I'm getting ready for NaNoWriMo. Wish me luck ^'^)

Yukkie waited a moment, her mind was to clouded. She had seen him do this one to many times. Now she couldn't land a hit on him....good.If he was going to go defensive, then she would play offensive. At this point she really didn't want to hurt him anyway. That was to much for a show.

Charging at him she went for a punch, but at the last second she changed it to a kick at the last possible moment. She knew he would block it so she didn't dare hold back. Kicking away from his block she only brought her leg right back down. Though she easily made sure he would block her with his good arm.

Twisting her body she landed behind him and kicked at him again. Finishing with a back flip she land in a perfect stance. If she had been in the Olympics for gymnastics she would have made a perfect score with the gold medal.

She tried to put all her heart and soul into her movements. "Is this any better at all master." With that she flung herself at him again on this time she spun and attacked from the back then spun and again from another side. She keep spinning and kicking and hitting from at a five point angle. It was her family's super secret movie, it was just a move the Master had taught her, and she had made it her own.

Keeping her hits up until she took his arms and pushed herself doing a back flip in mid air and landing perfectly back straight serious face. It was her way of saying it as his turn to move."

((So I had an idea, one that was so far in left field it might be something we could use later....what if Master Dai was Yukkie's grandfather...Since you know she doesn' have any family, and has mostly no memory of it. He could have sent her the the monk's so she could learn to be a great fighter so when she got older, then he would be able to somewhat look after her then...just a small idea that came to me.))

(((Also since he's blocking all the moves basically, I'm just had her show off. Feel free to edit this to your liking. Have fun with your writing thing!! I hope to see you in December if not before. I'll make sure to send some nice pictures for inspiration ^^."
