Creeping low to the ground, Athari skirted the outer edges of the jungle, his dark paws near silent as he looked around curiously. He'd hardly set foot outside of the jungle since having discovered it while still a cub, and now, as an adolescent, had decided that perhaps it was time to venture out, and get to know the territory directly surrounding it, at the very least.

And so, it was in this frame of mind that he crouched now, nearly hidden from view in the tall grasses, every sense on the alert--he was a target for hyenas, or even a full-grown lion, if he wasn't careful.

Sauda had found her favorite type of perch again, a tree branch on one of the many growths the jungle had to offer. Sure, it was more dangerous, but it was a lot more fun in this place too.

For instance, there was a potential new friend stalking around right under her! Sauda couldn't pass up the chance to say hello. The growing female juvinille shifted silently until she could balance, gazing down from where she stood precariously perched.

He looked like he was sneaking about, even better! Sauda could get the jump on him! Grinning, the cheetah finally yelled.

"Hey!! What are you sneaking around for?"

Athari stumbled, almost faceplanting in the dirt. Immediately, his hackles were up, and he lifted his lip without thinking, his heart feeling as though it would pound out of his chest. Looking around, ears laid flat against his head, he tried to spot the one who'd announced their presence so...loudly.

"What's it to you?!" he managed to get out, ashamed that it emerged almost a squeak

((>X( GIMMEH. *pounces on it and chews*))

A lighthearted peal of childish laughter was the response that the leopard got and not much else for a bit. The look on his face was so great! Priceless, definitely! Sure it was just a bit mean (Sauda didn't think so, though), but she got such a kick out of seeing the expressions of those she scared.

"Y-you should see the look on your face!"

Now that really got his dander up. Puffing up like an irritated blowfish, the hair along his ruff standing up, Athari's eyes narrowed, scanning the trees above, although he didnt think he was in much danger--had the irritating creature wanted him dead, she'd had planty of opportunity. "Some of us don't have time for childish games...it caught me by surprise, is all!"

If he could have blushed, the adolescent leopard would be vivid crimson, at this point.

"Well there's always time for fun isn't there? It's a pretty boring life otherwise!"

Sauda grinned and climbed back down into the tree, letting herself be partially seen as she emerged through the twisted trunk.

"What's your name? I've never seen a cat like you before, are you a pride cat? You're kind of spotty for a pride cat."

Athari snorted, although her words made him remember a time when he'd gone playing in the prideland caves with a certain small fox, and what joy they'd taken in just being silly. How long ago that seemed, now.

Blinking, he took in the other's appearance. Tall and slender, she looked inexplicably elegant. "Athari." he replied, tone still somewhat curt, pride still stinging. "And I'm a leopard, not a pride-cat. What about you?" the words had softened slightly about halfway through the question, genuine curiosity showing through.

Sauda gazed at the other's stronger build with brown-orange eyes, seeming to spark with humor and joy.

"I like your name!" She chirped, seeming to have completely forgotten about moments before. "Mine is Sauda, and I'm a cheetah!"

With a short, impish chuckle she gracefully leapt down to stand on the jungle floor, padding closer, nose busy sniffing politely, but quickly and curiously at the other. She seemed rather hyper, and smelled of another, what she was doing away from him was unclear. Perhaps he'd gone off hunting and left her to wait.

"Do you live here? I've never been someplace like this before. What's it called?"

Athari stalked around her slowly, nose also sniffing busily. He'd never seen one of her kind before, with her long, elegant legs and slender body. Her spots were also...different than his own. Curious. Realizing that there was no danger, from her, his posture eased somewhat. "Thank you--Sauda's a...nice name also." he replied, tilting his head slightly to the side and sitting back on his haunches. "And yes, I live here--I came to the jungle as a cub, and have remained here since. Where are you from?" he asked, curiosity coming to the forefront.

Sauda smiled lightly and had herself a seat on the jungle floor, watching Athari with a curious expression. So he lived here? He probably knew all the fun spots then!

"Thanks! It's really dry where I come from, and there aren't a lot of trees. The grass is really tall though, and there are a lot of rocks. Savannah, mom called it once. It's a really long way away from here though. What's your favorite place here? What kind of landmarks does the jungle have??"

Her eyes glistened with excited and unbound curiosity, brimming at the edges as she looked hopefully at the leopard.

((D: *had totally forgotten she left you hanginglikethat* ;-; I'MSOSORRYTAHJA *shall tell you she remembered to post when next she sees you* XD;; ))

Athari nodded, having wandered quite a distance through the savannah as a cub before settling into life in the jungle.

"My favorite place...would have to be the stream that flows almost directly below one of my favorite trees to rest on." he replied, tilting his head slightly to the side at the look of hopeful interest in her eyes. "And you? How are you liking it here so far?"

"I like it okay, s'pretty neat getting to see all these different places, but I like the grasslands best." She answered with a smile. It was in that moment that Sauda had a plesant realization. Now that she'd gathered the basic information: Name, species, gender, and all that...

"You know? Your spots actually look a lot like Bato's!"

Nodding, Athari couldn't blame her. The young cheetah looked built for speed--perfectly suited for the more flat grasslands. As he started to ask what she planned on doing next, he was interrupted by her observation.

"Who...or what...is Bato?!" he couldn't help but ask, tilting his head to the side.
