Bia watched as her family came forward, her grand-daughters now fully grown, so much life after such hardships. She looked at the small band of wolves and felt the females words resonate deep inside. Home such a small simple word but it was the kind of thing that some wolves never learned to appreciate and others never found. It wasn't until her mate was dead, her pups gone, her whole life ruined by her own fears that she had come to realize what she had lost. Now that she had it back there was no way she was going to ever let it go. She glanced at Dione hoping the female understood where the small group was coming from as well. Then she looked to Deimos and Hephaestus, after all as the alpha's the choice was theirs.

Captain remained quiet throughout the exchange, observing the small surge of wolves that came to their alpha's call with a small frown. This land already had quite a few occupants . . . Could they possibly fit four more?

He began to have a small disquieting doubt niggle at his mind. Maybe they should move on from this one as well . . .

But then, Captain thought, if they always thought of a reason to leave because of an imperfection, then they would never be happy. Seeking perfection always ended in disappointment. His upper lip twitched, as if he was flashing an imaginary mustache, and then nodded.

"As Miss Tisiphone and Miss Heyoka say, sirs and madams. If nothing else, would you mind us staying a night to rest our paws? We will cause no trouble."

He would make sure of it. This was the best way to see if this pack was truly what they needed and sought - and if not, then they would be renewed for the day's trip. A simple request, and no losses.

Oh my! She would never get used to all of the wolves here, Mythrila thought with a small smile. She wasn't even fully used to Deimos and Ehrek, let alone the other alpha Hephaests, and those children, and their cousins, and those cousin's children, and maybe some other non-related wolves . . . How her mind whirled! They must have been here for generations!

Grinning, she sat by the nuzzling males and allowed those with more qualifications to talk it out with the strangers. Really, she wouldn't mind helping the bear at least. She looked so worn down and trodden on by life . . . It somewhat reminded her of herself some days on her own travel.

Hephaestus sat on his haunches beside the bear, pondering their words. He understood where the black one was coming from. A home was different. A home needed family, love, and togetherness to be what it was, as well as a place that could support them. Although these four wolves looked to have the love, family, and togetherness portions down, he gathered that they had not found somewhere that suited their hearts yet.

His ears flickered as he pondered, and finally he caught the sound of the wolf he had been waiting for, and he stood again, looking the four painted wolves in the eyes, each in turn.

"A home is a concept I understand, and the need for one. Our meeting was not under ideal circumstances, however, I am willing to give you all the benefit of the doubt."

Dione spoke up here; as elder and former alpha, she had much say when it came to strangers in the packlands, and her wisdom had kept them safe countless times.

"The gods know how many foundlings my son has taken in. So far, every one of them has been a welcome addition. Do not make this decision his first wrong one, painted wolves." She had an air of regality about her, her head held high, the icy blue of her eyes cold and commanding. Dione had been a queen once....Now, a mother and grandmother, and even great-great grandmother. She cherished those positions even more. And though her fur was more silver then white from age, she still held the fierceness that had drawn her mate to her so many years ago.

"If you give us cause to distrust you, there will be no second chances."

"No need to threaten them so soon, grandmother," a warm, laughing voice said from the trees. A wolf just as large as Heph and Deimos stepped from the ferns, his black and red fur contrasting sharply with the shocking white of his mohawk. Though his appearance seemed fierce, his bi-colored eyes were friendly, and his tongue lolled in his smile, until he spotted the bear.

Ciirsyn Kiion went to her, sniffing the great form so close to his own colors. The painted wolves started to see a resemblance in many of the wolves, between colors, eyes, and other traits. This indeed was an old pack, filled with family.

"That bear did a number on her..." he murmured, dropping to his stomach. He stretched his paws out to the bloodied form, so much larger then himself, and closed those bi-colored eyes. Lightning started flickering between his paws, dancing its way up his body until he was coated in the miniature, tonging silver bolts. When he opened his eyes again, they were nothing but the light of a summer storm, when the forked lightning struck in the distance with a crack. That lightning surged into the bear, closing her wounds one by one.

Tisiphone knew she should keep quiet about it and not risk causing any trouble, but she could not be anything other than what she was and part of that was being very straightforward about her intentions, in most cases. Besides, she was simply being honest and it was not really something that ought to be misconstrued as a threat or an attempted challenge.

“I will not apologize for defending my own,” she said to the alpha. “But I am sorry that this confrontation took place on your lands and that it has tainted our first meeting. Thank you for giving us a chance.” Tis turned to the regal one – the alpha’s mother? – when she began speaking. Though she did not appreciate that the threat was directed at her band, she did appreciate the older wolf’s sentiments and respected her for it. The white wolf had spirit and the drive to defend her own, just like Tisiphone. She got the feeling that, if they stayed, she would only come to respect her more.

“We will not give you cause to doubt us,” she assured the regal wolf, though, if the other female was as much like herself as Tis suspected, words would mean little. Deeds were what really mattered.

When another wolf appeared, she watched with interest as he harnessed the power of lightening to heal the she-bear. She had never personally known a shaman, but she knew their reputations. It was an impressive sight, seeing him wield his power so effectively. It was also one more reason for her wolves to be on their best behavior, at least until they got used to this pack… if they decided to stay. Although he seemed amiable enough, the newest wolf was still a shaman and she knew that his lightening could as easily be used as a weapon as he was even now using it to heal.

“I am Tisiphone,” she added after the shaman had finished, deciding that it was time for a proper introduction. “These are Captain, Heyoka, and Zanza’jin.” She indicated each wolf in turn. “We gladly accept your hospitality.”

Ehrek darted an eye toward Dione, the elder of their pack as she spoke to the painted wolves. She spoke with such regality and power it was unnerving, however, if he was on the other end of that exchange of words, he would have felt very much threatened and might have been defiant if he wasn't scared out of his mind. These painted wolves are greatly outnumbered here and the alpha pardoned them for this situation. His tension eased.

Just not soon after Dione gave her warning, another wolf he had hardly seen entered the fray; Ciirsyn. If he recalled, he was a shaman. Ehrek's eyes widened as he did something to the bear. The power, the unexplainable sight he watched struck him in utter awe. He watched with such interest and fascination.

"Deimos... what does Ciirsyn do?" he asked quizzically. Was that the cracks of light in the sky during storms? How was it down here? Yet not many clouds of dark was in the sky...

The blue wolf turned toward Mythrila, a close friend of theirs. Noticing that she seemed a bit out of place, he nudged her softly. "You okay?"

Heyoka grinned as Hephaestus and Dione spoke in turn. Was that a challenge? It seemed like it might be. But not one to cause trouble. No -- to prove them wrong. Heyoka's challenges weren't always self-destructive...but they often were.

Her ears swept forward and attention immediately piqued as the shaman arrived. Her eyes widened. "...Is she yours?" She asked, a bit anxiously. Now she was starting to feel guilty. Hurting the bear wasn't her intent...it was a side-effect of the battle she'd been so excited for. She hadn't really thought that part through.

Ignoring any dirty looks she might get from the others, no longer caring at all about the presence of anybody else, she crept forward to sniff curiously at the lightning. "...What are you doing? Can you show me to do that?"

"I'm fine," Mythrila assured Ehrek with a return nudge, eye riveted on the scene. Of course, she had jumped when the white-maned one had stepped forth, stretched out a paw, and shocked the bear as easily as if he had a storm inside of him! "Magia . . . No puedo creer." What was the word for wolves like this?

"Shaman. Chamán in my language," Myth explained, as it seemed Ehrek had not known what Ciirsyn was either.

How many others were just like him here?

Captain quirked a brow at the revealed shaman's efforts, unable to help his inner suspicion. He was not a fan of the magic such wolves like them (or seers) could wield. It was . . . not natural. But he said no word of his opinion, preferring to actually have some place to stay this time.

Once more he stepped in front of Heyoka to stop her from getting to close. "Mind your manners," he murmured to her. "There's a time and place for you to investigate, but now isn't one of them."

They might be open to having the four stay, and Captain wanted nothing more than to seal the deal and rest his weary paws. Being nosy would only delay the process.

"We graciously accept," Captain agreed along with Tisiphone, turning his gaze back to the alpha and his mother. "And, if you do not mind, the quicker we find dens, the quicker we can recover from our journey. The day has been long."

Hephaestus quirked his maw into a wry grin at Captain's tone, his posture friendly. He nodded, watching as the bear came to, if a little blearily. She seemed wary, but he knew Ciirsyn would speak with her and make her the offer he had spoken to his son about.

"Ciirsyn can show you all his...powers...some other day. Deimos will lead you to the dens. Prepare to walk amongst the clouds," he said, his eyes smiling. "They are thick today..."

The plateau was covered in them today as they drifted down from the mountains to the North, falling away to continue their journey over the forest to the South.

"I must continue my patrol. We will meet later this evening and hunt." With that, he bowed to them and vanished into the underbrush, Phrixos, Lachesis, and Dione following him. The rest of the pack turned to follow Deimos, all wagging tails and smiles as they greeted their new comrades.

The painted wolves were finally home.
