Occasionally shifting his head wings or shrugging his feathered shoulders a bit nervously, Ardea crept into the library as though trying to sneak up on someone. He had not seen Aesculus since the odd meeting outside the castle when some of the Fey had been reverted to children, but as he and the Oak Fey had both been assigned the task of researching the beasts of the forest, Ardea figured the library would be the best place to start.
In truth, he would not have minded never seeing Aesculus, and doing the research on his own, not out of any dislike for the other man, but because group projects had never been the Heron's preference. But a small part of him hoped that he would make more friends, to get rid of the constant lonliness that always seemed to shade over him to some degree or another. So while Ardea made no particular effort to seek out Aesculus, he still set his papers and pens down in a conspicuous place at the table before slipping away down an aisle to begin looking for books. Perhaps the other Fey would come to him somehow.

As of yet, Aesculus had been unable to catch Cervus to inform him of his engagement. Rather than pad around the castle, waiting for an opportune moment, he had gathered together an empty tome for note-taking, some ink, and a quill, and set out for the library. He took his job very seriously, and with his king and best friend assigning him to a specific task, he was even more determined and solemn.
As he pushed open the door to the library and paused to look for a place to sit, he noticed that there was already a table with some books piled on it, as well as some personal effects. Obviously he was not alone, but he did not yet spot his comrade.
"Hello?" Without waiting for an answer, he put down his belongings and looked at the bindings of the books to get some bearing as to where he needed to be looking for his particular topic.

Upon hearing another voice, Ardea straightened from looking at the books on the bottom shelf, and took a few steps back toward the table. Was this his partner, then? He could not see the other yet.
"Hello?" he replied, then stepped out into view from between the shelves. Then, seeing the other Fey, the Heron inquired, "You are Aesculus, then? Sent to research the strange things in the woods with me?"

Aesculus nodded to the other man, and regarded with a calm, composed look of regard. Although he held himself well, like any noble, there was only a hint of concern in his eyes; he was not panicked, outwardly worried, or visibly shaken by the earlier events. Aesculus himself once read about icebergs, and found that only a small percentage of them, less than half, is visible above water.
His kithain often jested that he was much like an iceberg. A quiet, nice, polite iceberg that gave good advice. But an iceberg.
"Did you already get started? I apologize for not having arrived earlier. You are probably much more well acquainted with this library than me." His gaze flickered over the bookshelves briefly before resting back onto his companion.

"I only just arrived here, actually," Ardea admitted. "But I suppose we are more useful reading and writing than chatting." Not that he disliked Aesculus - he had really not yet formed any opinion at all - but he was far more comfortable with his nose in a book than bungling about trying to make conversation. Hopefully this Aesculus would be the same way, and the Heron would not have to worry too much about the socializing aspect of working together.
Ardea pointed to the shelves behind him, and then at the next row of shelves to his left. "There are a lot of histories in these shelves, so I figured I would start here. We have a lot of them to check, though, and some of them are not nearly as organized as they could be." He had been through some of the worse ones before, and had a list in his room of the specific ones that really could use rewriting, but Ardea had not thought to bring the list with him here.

Aesculus remained perfectly stoic, his face calm and relatively relaxed as Ardea spoke and then motioned to the books. His eyes flickered back to the shelves and then to the other man. If he didn't wish to talk, Aesculus couldn't really fault him; there was much to do, and they likely had little time to complete their task in. It was, after all, an urgent matter. He couldn't help but muse, however, at his peer's apparent dislike of conversing. Maybe that is why he had hardly seen him?
Nodding to Ardea he walked over to the shelf, and seeing no real method established yet in the mayhem of books, he simply selected the first one on the first shelf of relevant history tomes and took it to the table. There was no sense trying to read more than he could digest at one time anyway.
"Very well. I will take notes on all relevant text and annotate with the name of the book and the page number."

The scribe nodded slowly, turning his gaze back to the book he held in his own hands. At least his partner seemed to know what he was doing already, and the urgency of it as well. This certainly made his job easier.
Taking a second book from the shelf, Ardea carried them both back to his table, and, after gently blowing the dust off of the top of the older-looking of the two, set both tomes down. With a sigh, he plopped down in his chair and flipped the first book open and scanned over the contents and calendars for something that looked relevant. This would likely be quite a project, but the best way to finish was to start.
Ardea leaned over to fetch one of his pens, venturing to glance across the table at Aesculus as he dipped the nib in his inkwell. Oh yes, and he had help, too. Always made things easier.
