This article is about how Penn State is creating 3D-models of volcanoes to understand how volcanic explosions occur and where blasts will occur.

Pretty interesting, Given a better understanding of how it happens and why it happens in specific area's would be extremely beneficial to area's with lots of volcanic activity, they would be able to hopefully with enough research find a way to predict even when it happens, or at least develop some sort of early warning system even perhaps 20 minutes of warning would give people more time to take shelter and save dozens if not hundreds of lives in future volcanic events. Given the speed that it might occur and the area it might damage would allow them to set up evacuation zones based on the likely amount of damage that zone would encounter and what priority it should be evacuated in.

Geologists are constantly trying to develop better early warning systems for things such as volcanoes and earthquakes. It would be awesome if the scientists at Penn State could develop this program further so that it could be used to predict when a volcano is going to erupt earlier than they have in the past!

Think of the disasters that could be avoided if people got a warning say an hour before pyroclastic eruption when a volcano shoots superheated gasses into the atmosphere at 200 miles an hour and destroys everything within 50 miles, you'd have enough time to issue a warning to evacuate to all the people at the closest range, and tell everyone else who's further away to take immediate shelter at the nearest safe place.

Or if they could give notice of earthquakes people would have time to get to earthquake resistant structures or off of main bridges or out of high rises. Plenty of time to evacuate coastal area's before a potential tsunami could destroy thousands of lives.

That's a huge thing that i think scientists need to be focused on right now.
