Lightsaber Form System
"A lightsaber - any weapon - only achieves worth in how it is wielded - in the effort, the struggle of one who holds it." ―Kreia
Lightsaber combat was the preferred method of fighting used by the Jedi and Sith, which was initially based on ancient sword-fighting techniques. Throughout the millennia since its creation it developed into seven "classic" forms and numerous other styles. It was difficult to master for a number of reasons, one of them being that all of the weight a lightsaber had was in its hilt. It had been said that only a Force-sensitive individual could completely master lightsaber combat. All seven traditional lightsaber forms included the same basic techniques as ancient sword-fighting styles, such as defensive postures, overhand strikes, parries, and counters.
Summary:
The lightsaber is the heart of the concept of Jedi or Sith. A symbol of their orders, and the tool of every single member since its invention. It is a crucial part of any Jedi or Sith's training to learn forms and master them. In this short system you will learn how to attribute forms to your character and levels of competence in each form, based on your rank.
Lightsaber Forms will be considered no less than Force Powers.
Hence, they will take a place in your alloted spaces for Force Powers. This may come as a relief to some, or annoyance to others, too bad. Lightsaber combat is not natural to anyone, Force Sensitive or otherwise, and requires just as much - if not more - concentration to perform.
NO UN-APPRENTICED OC (original character) MAY LIST A LIGHTSABER FORM ON THEIR POWER LIST.
Yes, this includes Academy students. If you want a Lightsaber form right off the bat then you must have a Master IN THE ROLE PLAY.
Ranks:
Apprentice/Padawan: Still a learner, this PC may allot a space to a single lightsaber form and it MUST be the same as their Master. This is not mastery, this is knowledge of the lightsaber form.
Knight: Still learning, the Knight has experience in the lightsaber form they learned from their master and may now choose if they are to devote another power slot to one additional lightsaber form.
Master: A Master now of one of the forms he or she chose as a padawan or Knight, their choosing. In addition, they are mastered in one additional lightsaber form of their choice..
Developed Lightsaber Form:
In order to develop your own lightsaber form the following rules, guidelines, and pre-requisites must be followed and used.
Rules: • Only a Master ranked member may choose to develop a lightsaber form. • The member must be at the highest Master rank possible for their position. • They must seek approval from the council to begin the development of a new lightsaber form. • The developed form will take the place of a developed power. Guidelines: • The form must have true purpose and be something that much time has been put into. • The form must be fully developed IC and the member must take the time to learn, train, and understand the form before it can be mastered. • The form must have pre-requisites of itself in case someone else's wishes to learn the form. • Should the member be granted the new form, only that member may teach the form to another member. Pre-Requisites: • Members IC must have at least two mastered lightsaber forms already in their profile. • Members IC must have justifiable plot reasons to gain the new form.

Q&A Q: I'm confused about the levels of knowledge on the forms. What does it mean if I'm "experienced" in a form? A: What it means is that if you are experienced in Makashi, but your opponent is a Master of Makashi, that you're going to be sushi. Ranks will always outrank each other, that's a matter of the RP, and it carries over Lightsaber forms just as it does powers.Q:What about other lightsaber forms? There are all these unorthodox forms and not-really forms, but still sort of classified as such on the wookiepedia page. Do we need permission for any of those? Some of them look like they're just concepts behind lightsaber combat. A: The true forms are the only forms worth mentioning and taking as "powers." All the other forms, or concepts, may be used freely to augment your abilities, within reason. Q: If we currently have the maximum amount of powers granted to use by our class, we would need to remove x amount for our lightsaber forms? How would this affect the requirements for each subclass (x amount of combat, x amount of mental)? A: Don't worry about "requirements" for your powers. Consider the lightsaber form a 'power' that meets both mental and combat categories - because it is. It's a disciplined, physical style that requires both your mind and your body to practice.Q: Where can I find the different lightsaber forms? A: There is a detailed article on lightsaber combat worth checking out on Wookiepedia.com but to save time, they will be quoted below.Lightsaber Forms Form I: Shii-Cho " Way of the Sarlacc" or " Determination Form": Form I is the most basic of the seven forms and is learned by every Jedi Youngling. Shii-Cho includes the fundamental elements of all the lightsaber forms, including the basic attack, parry, body target zones, and practice drills called velocities. Form II: Makashi " Way of the Ysalamir" or " Contention Form": Form II represents the ultimate refinement of lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat. Masters of Makashi develop unique offenses and defenses and train studiously against having their sabers taken or damaged. Form III: Soresu " Way of the Mynock" or " Resilience Form": Form III was first developed in response to the advancement of blaster technology in the galaxy. Soresu's emphasis on tight, efficient movements that expose very minimal target areas make it the most defensive and passive of the seven forms. Form IV: Ataru " Way of the Hawk-Bat" or " Aggression Form": Form IV is the most acrobatic of all the forms and requires a Jedi to first master the Force Run, Jump, and Spin abilities. By incorporating all the Force powers that allow a Jedi to exceed standard norms of physical abilities, Jedi may resemble nothing less than a blur when using this style. Form V: Shien / Djem So " Way of the Krayt Dragon" or " Perseverance Form": Form V was also created in response to the advancement and frequency of blaster use in the galaxy. Unlike the strictly defensive style Soresu, Shien exploits the ability of a lightsaber to block blaster bolts and deflect them back at an opponent in a counter-attack maneuver. In a duel, the Djem So variation of this form, which focused on strength, would be used. Form VI: Niman " Way of the Rancor" or " Moderation Form": Form VI seeks to balance the emphases of forms I through V. Niman allows a Jedi to fight with harmony and justice without having to resort to powerful, aggressive movements or overt emotion. Form VII: Juyo / Vaapad " Way of the Vornskr" or " Ferocity Form": Juyo instead employs bold, direct movements, more open and kinetic than form V, but not so elaborate as the acrobatic form Ataru. Juyo requires greater energy and intensity out of the practitioner because his focus is wielded more broadly and draws upon from a deeper well of emotion; while the outward bearing of a Form VII practitioner is one of calm, the inner pressure verges on explosive. It was also considered to be the most dangerous in regard to falling to the Dark Side, because it required a certain amount of enjoyment in the fight from the person experiencing it.
