I guessed they were brothers. Although, I share the same thought..that Eragon could be Brom's child. Especially the blessing of sorts that Brom gave him..like a father to a son.

While two might share two..could be a relationship, either Selena/Morzan or Selena/Brom. from those two pairings came two..Eragon and Murtagh. Each one is VERY different, so One of those two is definently one, seperate and apart..

One might be two..Eragon could be like Murtagh? No. Murtagh on the inside is like Eragon, but he's forced to Galbatorix's side, so he's two because he's both good and evil.

Unless there's a third child. Which actually, I wouldn't be suprised at.

Hmm..interesting theory..It would, I suppose make sense if Selena had another child..The whole Inheritance thing again.. If that was the case, the translation of While two might share two would be..Selena/Brom had two children?? Um..the first two is a relationship..the second two children?

Or if it was one child, just Eragon, it could mean Eragon and Saphira.

Or in another light, the first two could be Eragon and Murtagh, and they share two..is Saphira and Thorn..

Okay, I just finished reading Eldest for the third time tonight, and I can't shake this feeling that I have. Do you remember Blagden's riddles right before Eragon leaves Ellesmera? When I read by that part, my mind automatically switched to my theory of Brom being Eragon's father. I get this feeling that the riddle will reveal whether or not I am correct. Has anyone had any luck in solving the riddle? I've been working at it, and I think I'm getting close, but I keep forgeting my logic in solving the riddle, and I come up with other answers. Here's the riddle for any of you that would be willing to help:

While two might share two
And one of two is certainly one
One might be two

This is what I've come up with so far: If you read the riddle in lines starting from the bottom, "One might be two" could be talking about a Rider and his or her Dragon, seeing as their minds are melded to the point that they are more one being than two, and the other one that I came up with for it was that maybe Eragon, who is one, might have two parents, as he is part of them by being their child. "And one of two is certainly one" could mean that one son of two people is definitly only one person, not two, meaning without multiple personalities (or something). And I can't figure out anything from the first line.

This that I have deciphered from the riddle are just guesses. Feel free to take a shot at it. I would be forever greatful if someone would help me to answer Blagden's enigmatic rhyme.

"While two may share two,

And one of two is certainly one,

One might be two."

While two sons (Eragon and Murtagh) "may" share the same two parents (Morzan and Selena),
And one parent of two parents, the Mother-Selena, is certainly the same one parent of both sons,

One parent, the Father, might be two Fathers (Brom and Morzan) each having one of the sons.

What in the world could this riddle be about if it doesn't support the two-father theory?

Here is another little riddle thing:
"Son and Father alike, both blind as bats".

This is about betrayal. Brom was blind to Morzan's betrayal, and Eragon was blind to Murtagh's betrayal.

Also, Brom's dragon was Blue, as is Eragon's. Morzan's Dragon was Red, as is Murtagh's.

I would do the same should Arya, Nasuda or Katrina become the next dragon rider. I don't think it says she returned..did it??

Arya is almost for certain to the next rider. The next would have to be a girl, to balance both males. (I am not being sexists, it just the way it goes) Eragon's magic is blue, Saphira is blue. Murtagh's magic is red, Thorn is red. (or fine, dont' yell at me MAROON). The next dragon is going to be green, C. Paolini already said the cover will be emerald green with an emerald green dragon facing to the right. So let's think now. Who's magic is green? Arya's. It also points to her because she is in elf, not being mean to humans hear, but elf's were more likely choosen over humans. Aside from "elf" Eragon and Murtagh, the next one being human? Not likely. Therefore, it'd have to Arya. There is also a possibilty that the third rider would be a new character, not probable though. Eragon and Murtagh were very we contructed and complex when they got their dragon, so throwing a new charcter without in construction would be foolish. But could happen. ^.~

Yes I did predict it. It was obvious, the subtle hints that weren't at all subtle. The ways you've all created theories around the riddle thing is interesting. I'd have to agree though..

To make Arya the next Rider..is far too predictable. But then..maybe it's so predictable it's unpredictable.. From the way most people guessed Murtagh was Eragon's brother..and that he wasn't dead..and that he was the next Rider..Arya will probably be the Rider from sheer predictability.

Although..I would like something more unpredictable. That still fits with the storyline of course, not something that throws it off completely..

I understand Aravare, I don't want the next rider to be Arya. T-T

Yeah..but who would it be? I suppose the logical thing to do would be..rule out the female characters that are already too important.. and see who's left? So that leaves out..Arya, Elva, Nasuada..Angela?

And hopefully it's not Katrina either..but that rules out a lot of people.. *shrug*

I say it's Orik, or another Dwarf perhaps. Throughout the book, Christopher Paolini continually says that the Dwarfs have never made a bond with the dragons. I think he's trying to imply something.

I'd need to read through the books again, but I don't think it ever mentioned the color of Morzan's dragon, and if it did, then I'm pretty sure that it was red. Galbatorix's dragon, Shrieken, was the black dragon.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 14, 2008 4:09 pm

Yes, it must have been red, because riders always had their swords made the same color as their dragon. The only exceptions may be Eragon and Galbatorix. Eragon having Zar'roc instead of a blue sword, only for the fact that he can't have a sword made for him. (Though Murtagh has it now) And Galbatorix's first dragon may not have been black, so he may not have the same color sword as Shrieken.
