So, my strategy for StB is to push Shift+Z at the beginning of the battle before the enemy has a chance to attack. Then I just push shift, dodge stuff and try to get close to the boss to get a "risk shot" bonus. Afterwards, I just push shift (which is the next best thing since Shift+Z is too slow and unfocused is too fast) and do everything all over again. Hope this helps.
