I've often been teased for the way I listen to music. I don't really hear or pay attention to the lyrics or the title of a song. I'm lucky enough to catch the name of a band, and that only happens in cases where I discover something new and want to make sure I can find more of it in the future.
When I listen to a song, I am listen to the feel of it, not necessarily the message or story it contains. Am I alone in this, or are there others here like that?

You listen to music for the music, not the message, am I right?
I usually here the music of a song first, especially if the lyrics are hard to understand. However, sometimes the lyrics are what really grab my interest in a song, especially if I've listened to the song many times before, and listen to the lyrics alone for the first time. For example, I love the band Devildriver, but for a long while, I would pass over their song Sin and Sacrifice. More often than not, I would find it too melodic for the mood I'd be in when listening to them. However, about three weeks ago, I really listen to the lyrics for the first time, and found that I could relate to them more than any other Devildriver lyrics thus far. Now, it's the first song I put on when listening to them.
I think that lyrics and music are two separate parts of a song, and they can stand alone, but they're both worth paying attention to.
