"Hm? Oh, certainly. I may need just a few days to prepare," he said. He knew that none of his most cherished or valuable books were in the library, but he didn't want to part with something that was unexpectedly difficult to replace without at least taking down the text via an amanuensis spell.
He walked over to his computer on the desk to access his catalog. His eyes on the screen, he asked, "What's the title?"

Her suspicions grew as he prolonged their exchange. Perhaps he would try to keep the book from her? How could she maneuver the bargain to work in her favor?

"Its title is Foedus Vitae. I'm sure it's nothing that would interest you. I'll just pick it up and be on my way."

The name was unfamiliar to him, but this was unsurprising. In a world with so many books and also so many delicious distractions, there were many books that he had completely forgotten having ordered or hadn't read. This was even more so the case about books that were titled in languages in which he was not proficient, as sounded to be the case with this book.
"Not necessarily," he said. "I'll just want to be checking to see if the book is irreplaceable. If it is, it will still be yours to keep, but I'll want to take down the text with a few spells, so I have some copy of the information within for my own review. Please spell that for me."
As she spelled the title, his black claws clacked against his keyboard as he called up the information, and he frowned.
"Well, that's... odd. It doesn't seem to be in the catalog..." More quietly he muttered, "Everything is in the catalog."
It was true. He had organized it himself and double and triple checked it. This could only have been from outside. He wondered if it was something that Saber might have found and left here in her search, before pushing the thoughts aside and saying, "It must be from outside... But the mystery makes it all the more intriguing."
He called over his Void Sprite homunculus and gave her the title, before she flitted out of the room after it. She returned a short while later with a tome bound in scaly black leather.
He gathered up a pen and a stack of papers before casting a spell and said, "Please let me know if you find any illustrations or magical text. The magical portions will be for your use; I'd simply like to know about them, and I'd rather enjoy having photocopies of the illustrations, if there are any."
He looked over to the papers and the writing upon them and ventured, "I'm no expert on this sort of thing, but based on the size of the characters and the relative thinness of the book, it should take at least a couple of hours to copy, possibly more. I'd be happy to have it delivered to your room here where only you will be able to access it, have it shipped to your home, or you can simply wait for it, though I can't promise that my office will remain open that whole time. We may need to come back for it. The choice is yours."

Her incredibly small role in it already complete, Shanderaa stood back and watched as the exorcism took place. It seemed to be going smoothly, as far as she could tell. She wasn't entirely sure, though. Having never seen a real exorcism before, she had no idea what to expect. The movies made it seem so much more... dramatic than this. She figured that was probably for the best, however. Obscenities and puking were the last thing this situation needed. The only real change she noticed was the wings themselves. Gradually, they appeared to be changing color. Was that a good sign...? It must've been. No one seemed freaked out by it, anyway.

Before long, Matasoga was thanking Tinuviel. Huh. So... Does that mean it's finally over? Somehow, it seemed that there would be more to it than that, but that they'd apparently no longer need to worry about all this anymore was a massive relief. Maybe now they could get back to life as usual, without having to worry about unseen evil influences driving them apart. She smiled to herself. The idea of things around here finally, for sure this time, getting better... it was a pleasant one.

She'd have to remember to thank Tinuviel herself later. But for now, she watched the exchange, less tensely than before, not wanting to interrupt.

The face of the grandfather clock read shortly after midnight, too late to wait several more hours to procure the promised volume. She had no reason to believe that it wouldn't be conferred upon her if she returned the next day, especially with two other parties aware of the settlement. "I shall have to come back tomorrow after business hours. Will someone be here?"

"Someone will always be in the guild hall, but if you mean in my office, perhaps not. If you ring for Sergius, I can have him hold on to it for you, or even Yinzar, if you don't plan on entering the hall itself," he said.

"I don't think I'd feel comfortable leaving such a rare volume in Yinzar's care, but if you leave it with Sergius, I can claim it tomorrow."

"If there's no other pressing matter to discuss, I'll be on my way."

Matasoga knew himself to be a stiffly rigid and at times needlessly formal man, but even he bristled inwardly a bit at Tinuviel's frigid and unpersonable way of speaking, despite his best efforts at warmth. He allowed no trace of the emotion to show on his face, instead putting on a small smile.
"Kromli will see you out," he said. "Have a great night, and thanks again for your service."
He turned to Shanderaa once they were alone and his smile broadened. "Well... I'm finally free of it," he said with relief.

"Y-yeah!" She replied, looking up and making eye contact with Matasoga for the first time in weeks. Finally free. With all the stress, fear, and misery that led up to this moment, it seemed so surreal that this was all over with, and so (relatively) easily. But here they were, at last. Her gaze broke away momentarily as she tried to process this magical new reality. It seemed like it had been forever ago that things were anything even remotely resembling normal between them. Can we maybe try to go back to that, now? Because that'd be wonderful...

"Uh. So, then..."

The situation felt like something should be said for it. Something joyful, or triumphant, or hopeful maybe. Alas... Shan was not at all skilled in this area. After a moment of trying and failing to gather the proper words, she suddenly lunged forward and pulled Matasoga into a tight embrace, simply speaking what was most powerfully felt.

"I'm so glad to have you back! I've missed you so much!"

"I was always here," he said. "I never left you. I just grew a few additional... Unsightly appendages.
"And I don't mean these wings; they're gorgeous. Never more so, in fact. They're better than before, if I do say so, myself," he added, admiring their hue. "You know how much I love violet tones."
He smiled to her and said "All and all, I'd say this was a somewhat grave alchemical misadventure... But lesson learned, yes?"

"I know I know! But... well. It sure felt like we were losing you for a bit, there... that's all. But yeah! Lesson totally learned. Guess we can just try to move forward, now. Onto more positive things! Before I start the ugly cry again, eheh..." she answered with a small smile.

All rather suddenly he lifted her off the ground, tossed her a few feet into the air and caught her, spinning her around.
"Tomorrow, you're going to take a soldering iron to my back and make these circles permanent. I'm not looking forward to that, but it should give me the ability to change the form of my wings. Tonight , however, we celebrate," he said. "Kromli should be on his way back, after he sees out Tinuviel. Tonight we drink until dawn!"

"Aaah!" she yelped in surprise, before gently nuzzling in. It was beginning to feel like old times already. Alas, the feeling of warm comfort was short lived. Upon hearing tomorrow's plans, she shuddered. The idea of deliberately harming her master, even if for a greater good, made her feel sort of nauseous. "Yeah... Not gonna lie, that's gonna suck. A lot. Hopefully we have something that'll, y'know... make it suck less around here somewhere..."

She tried to put all of that out of her mind for the time being, though. They had all been through enough darkness as it was lately. Now... it was time to party. "But anyway! Now's not the time for that! We can worry about that when the time comes. If we're going to celebrate, I've gotta change into something nicer than this!"

He set her down and looked her in the eye.
"Then we'll meet in the guildhall in, what? 15 minutes?" he asked. "Will that be enough time?"

"More than enough! Back in a flash!" she answered, skipping off toward her room with a sprightly spring in her step after a quick peck on the cheek.
