The book was a little big to manage. Why had she insisted on carrying it again? Ophelia peeked over the top of the tome as she hurried to keep pace with her father who strode casually beside her, unsuccessfully holding back a smirk as he glanced down at his daughter. She was determined to show she could carry such a big thing, and concentrated hard on not letting her grasp slip even for a moment on the magical manuscript. The fairy fuzzykin she had dubbed 'Lilly' perched carefully on the girl's head, making a mock expression of seriousness to match her owner.
Granted, Ophelia was concentrating so hard that she didn't see the door to the building approaching, and nearly ran face first into it. The only thing that saved her from it was her father pushing it open a split second before she would have made impact. The sudden rush of air startled her a little, and she let out a little hoot of surprise before looking up at her dad.
Oliver smiled down at her and gently nudged her in with his knee at her back, careful not to hurt her tiny wings. "Come on, Chickie. Your Dad's waitin` for ya." Ophelia nodded and hurried inside, looking around with eager anticipation.

Inside, they found Jillian standing cheerily in front of the front desk, a large light brown owl on her arm. His eyes were wide and green and he immediately hooted with delight on seeing Ophelia, swooping over to land on her shoulder and nuzzle her cheek.
"Bol's been really excited to meet you!" Jillian giggled, waving to the duo herself now that her arm was free.

Ophelia giggled and finally relinquished her hold on the book, allowing it to slip to the floor as she reached up to pet her father's wings. The little girl gladly returned the affectionate nuzzle and smiled wide.
The smile was contagious, Oliver watching the pair for a moment before turning his attention to the lady. Her gesture was returned as he waved back and approached, stopping a little ways off so as not to invade her personal space. "Mornin` - I'm guesssin` the bird's her Dad, right? Ain`t bad lookin - for an owl...a magic owl, was it?"

"Soooooomething of that ssoort yes," Bollard hooted from his spot on Ophelia's shoulder, the bird speaking with a rather proper yet heavily accented little voice. He seemed very pleasant and cheerful, and not too far along in the age department, and yet still very knowledgeable.
"We believe he used to be humanoid in some fashion, but was altered so drastically that he's now a true talking owl. It took a lot to study to figure out how that worked but it does." Jillian's explanation was simple, like a young student giving a short report.
Bollard gave a little hooting laugh, fluttering some as he did. "Soooooo, little one, tell me how you are!"
