Exploring the land with his son, if not the most satisfying pass time, ranked high on his list of things to do during the day. Being beside his beloved May proved to trump even that, but when she didn't feel like wandering to the gods knew where, Phrixos could count on his son to follow him.
Sure, the alphas patrolled every day, but that was to keep the pack borders strong, and prevent any potential trespassers from causing trouble. It was usually boring, and consisted of going over the same path every time.
His son and daughter had already one-uped him, descending to the forest below the plateau. Not even he had ventured that far, and from their story, he decided he'd wait a while before trying himself.
Now, though, he ran at an easy pace beside Adrastos, eyes and ears open for any excitement."The bear's scent is old, I don't think we'll find anything by following it.""Probably not, but there's always a chance...""That's your favorite phrase for everything. There's always a chance...that we'll run into a dead end and waste an entire day chasing ghosts with big paws..."Phrixos snorted and wondered where his son's sudden common sense came from.
Probably his mother.
The light breeze shifted, bringing a rather intriguing scent to his nose. Adrastos must have caught it as well, stopping to sniff deeply. The two spun in circles, trying to pinpoint its source."Seems we have visitors.""Should we get Deimos or Heph?" Phrixos pondered this, knowing that it was probably a good idea. But his adventurous side always won out in decisions such as this. If something exciting could potentially happen, he didn't want to miss it. "We'll get them later..."

Zeus and his sister, Shiranai, wandered in the woods, far past the human village that they had escaped from less than a fortnight ago. The wounds on Zeus’ eye had healed ages ago. He thanked the gods that he had been able to keep the vision in that eye. Those wretched dogs…no, they weren’t dogs anymore. They were beasts. Those beasts had fiercely taken the orders of those humans-the same humans who had tortured his poor sister and scarred her for life.
He looked over at his sister to see her limping. It seemed like the scars on her elbows were taking longer to heal than the scar over her muzzle had. He winced slightly at her pain. He wished that he had gotten to her sooner so that he could have saved her the pain of those scars.
Shiranai spotted her brother staring at her and she frowned at him. "What is it?" she asked him in a bitter tone of voice. Zeus winced slightly at the harshness of her voice. She used to be a kind and sweet wolf until the humans changed it. Now she was bitter towards the world and blamed all humans for what those wretched creatures did to her. He shook his head slightly.
"Nothing," he said in a deadpan voice. He didn’t want to get her angrier than she already was. He stopped in his tracks as he caught a strange scent in the air. Shiranai stopped beside him and looked at him with a slight glare on her face. "It seems like we have trespassed on a pack’s territory." His sister gave him a cold look. He shook his head at her. "I know it is a bad idea but we can’t be lone wolves for the rest of our lives. What happened to father’s pack wasn’t our fault."
"Yes it was and you know it," she said to her brother in a cold tone of voice.
"But," he continued on as if he hadn’t heard her. "We do need other wolf companionship. And I need to get a mate…as do you." He gave her a cold calculated look. "Either way, we need to prepare for some of the pack members to come and greet us. Hopefully they don’t scare us away before we can ask to join the pack."
Shiranai shook her head but didn’t protest. She knew he was right about the mate part. Hopefully they didn’t doom this pack like they did their father’s when they were pups. Carefully, he began to head towards the scent of the other two wolves.

The two wolves danced through the foliage like deer, jumping over this log and ducking under that branch, weaving between ferns and sumac. They were silent now, not quite hunting, but also not fumbling into the middle of a potential fray with guns blazing.
But when they reached the wolves, he strode boldly forward, his son shoulder to shoulder with him. They kept their posture stiff, tails held high. These were their lands, and in the absence of either of the alphas, they felt they should show some dominance.
"Greetings, traveler," Phrixos offered, a small smile curling his maw.

Adrastos eyed the two wolves, the scars catching his attention first. They seemed newly healed, and the female limped. He wondered what happened to them, even as he noticed some of the familial similarities in the two, guessing them to be related somehow. Though his father greeted them, he just nodded, being less dominant to begin with, but also wanting to be a silent body guard until his presence was best introduced.
Even though he liked adventure, Adrastos abhorred fighting, and hoped that this encounter would be peaceful.
