Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you are using a 2010 Macbook Pro 13" to play SC2? I'm currently in the market for a new laptop for college and I'm considering a Macbook Pro. The most intensive thing I'll probably use it for is SC2, but I want to know if it can play most multiplayer games lag-free. (Biggest matches I play are usually 3v3, but if it runs 4v4, perfect!)

Thanks in advance!

You definitely don't want to get a mac if you plan on playing any games other than Starcraft. Hardly anything's available on macs. But it should be able to run SC2 great.

This

No matter how many games come "out" for mac. Most are hardly optimized.

Macs are for people who want garageband and to overpay =p

I don't know why there are so many haters about macs. I use a 15" Macbook pro to play starcraft. Of course it's not optimized to play SC2 and I have to play on the lowest graphics setting... but at least it works. Before you say anything to bash me, I want to say that I got my macbook pro because I'm a graphic designer and it was required for my college courses. SC2 is something I just picked up and play on the side. I'm totally fine with playing on low settings. :3

So yes. It works. Not as well as a PC laptop or even a desktop but it works. :3

PS. You can always get crossover so you can run window/pc games on macs. Your quality of graphics will be turned down though.

And lag sometimes depends on your connection strength also.

Do you play SC2 under OS X or bootcamp Windows 7? I heard it's not as great if it is run under OS X. Is there any truth to this? Also, does the laptop get pretty hot while running SC2? I don't want it to overheat after 2 hours of SC2.

I want to pick one up because of it's extreme portability. It's super light and the build quality on these laptops are amazing. Plus, I kinda want to try out Mac OS X because I've never used a Mac before. The computer is mainly going to be used for regular tasks (email, web browsing, videos, etc.), college work, and light SC2 matches every now and then.

If people use them good for them lol. But when someone comes up to me and tries to shove their mac down my throat, they gonna get it lol.

I don't hate macs, I just mostly hate mac users, and the people who work at mac stores.

@@ Ravemast -- Depending on your graphics custom levels you put, yes. The mac does get pretty hot. But I've played SC2 for 5 hours straight per day for a week and nothing has ever gone awry. I do have Windows Parallel of it but I don't think that would do anything because the graphics are still the same. Sure you can run windows programs but the fact that your graphics card is only just as strong if you ran OS X.

If you're going to pick it up for doing mundane tasks, I would just suggest getting a PC. Because Macs are smooth and tend to not get any viruses or need virus protection software, mainly because the firewall that comes with it is hella strong, also means that they're a little bit more expensive. Well most macs are. You can find some for cheap. But if you're not going to be using it for graphic design, web design, or art based hobbies, I'd say just get a PC. Better graphics and better starcraft compatibilities.

@@ Onos -- I'm not shoving Macs down your throat, trying to get you to "convert" to Macs. No. I'm just trying to defend the possibility that Macs aren't as terrible as most people think they are. And does it make me a terrible person for owning a Mac? :/

I never said specifically you were, just made a general statement. And I didn't say macs were terrible, I just dislike everything else about them.

The hating mac users is a general statement since the majority like to shove down everyone's throat that Macs are sooo much better than anything else, and are usually stuck up hipsters. Their customer support at mac stores are really annoying to me too, since they generally act the same way.
