I only eat things I could kill or help kill myself so it doesnt happen very often and when it does happen, we give serious thanks. I think it's all about knowing the karma of what you are eating. That includes the working conditions of the people who produce the food for our health food shops! We eat home grown, locally produced or/and organic whenever possible but I would rather eat a home grown happy rooster (when there are too many) any day than eat a veggie stew made with beans picked by a starving child with no hope of an education. And the moral is..... KNOW WHERE YOUR FOOD COMES FROM AND WHAT'S IN IT! Hey has anyone seen the comedian that does a sketch on the death noises of vegetables? his cauliflower dying is only beaten by the radish! I once loved some bean sprouts i was growing on the window so much i cudnt bear to kill them by eating them...you know what? they went rotten! so they were wasted. I learned a lot that day!

Oh and we have a vegitarian digestive system with a long intestine. Carnivours have short intestines to get rid of the meat quicker. This fact is why there is so much bowel cancer and why we need to eat a lot of fibre.

People are gonna totally rag on me for this, but in my opinion, you are not a hippie if you eat meat. Hippie = A philisophical approach to life which emphasizes peace, love, freedom, and respect towards life and the earth. And eating the animal, is disrespectful to it. My opinion.

I'm a vegetarian. I never really liked meat much in the first place, I would usually eat a meatless food when I had the oppurtunity. I don't run around yelling at my friends to mimick me, though. If they want to eat meat, let them. Just so long as they don't try sneaking it to me. . .

Peace Love And Skate People are gonna totally rag on me for this, but in my opinion, you are not a hippie if you eat meat. Hippie = A philisophical approach to life which emphasizes peace, love, freedom, and respect towards life and the earth. And eating the animal, is disrespectful to it. My opinion. Don't be afraid; I've only quoted you to provide reference. Good vibes to you for speaking your mind, man mrgreen However, I mus add. In Native American culture they believed the animal's body was honored (as it's spirit was already reincarnated by then) when the meat, fur, etc. were used. I understand that western culture is very wasteful, but I believe being a hippie is also about respecting yourself. In Buddhist preachings (which I also follow), the body is a temple, and while not totally gauging meat all the time, you should eat enough to keep yourself healthy. I do not agree with our practices with recieving this meat, but It's a part of my lifestyle that I cannot give up, though I have been cutting down on processed meat consumption by making my own pasta sauce with tomatoes..yes, I am Italian, born and bred on meat sauce and big noodles. Also, not yet living on my own, I don't have as much choice as to my lifestyle. BUT I am considering a change... Lord Thatlatu of the Tofu I'm a vegetarian, but I won't shun the tiger for what he is. Amen heart *crouches like tiger* ^^

I think killing animals for fun is wrong, but if you have to kill an animal to eat, then i think it's okay. I'm not a vegitarian right now, but i want to start just eating stuff that's not meat.

I'm a vegan, I usually get a sick feeling when I think about eating meat or dairy. Once I accidently ate some pasta sause with gross processed meat in it, and I cried for over half an hour.
I'm not down with people eating meat, because of the negative effects on the environment, such as the 18% of greenhouse gases cause by methane from cows. It's kind of sick.

i'm a vegetarian. okay, here's what i think:
i don't think that meat is a bad thing, it can keep people healthy and is needed by many people for their survival, but most people could survive and live a very happy life without it. the problem i have is how they treat the animals. they treat them like crap, because why should they care, they're just gonna kill it? they are assholes. and also, so much of the meat from the animals they kill is not used because of all the mass production of the fast food chains. so many of the animals that die died for nothing. well, except a pretty handbag or some damn vain thing like that. it really makes me sick.
if we only killed what we needed to survive it wouldn't be that bad, but the fact is, people just don't care anymore. it's become natural. when really, it's just plain unhealthy. cry

I have been an avid animal lover all my life, and intend to study zoology or conservation biology next year in college. But, I am a meat eater. I not only do it for health reasons, but I have my own view on the eating of meat. I respect the animal that is capable of providing so much for me. When I move out I want to start buying organic meat and produce. I think the meat industry has been given a reputation that is actually worse than the truth, but I would still feel more comfortable if all the animals were free range. But, unfortunantely, animals will always be killed. Whether or not we all go vegan or continue to be omnivores. Plenty of animals still get killed when harvesting crops, that's why I support home-grown methods.
Everyone is entitled to eat how they want, and I don't think it makes them any less/more caring or loving. You can respect the animal and still eat it. The native americans are a prime example of that. 3nodding
