Today's delivery of medicine called for Iri to pass by the town's graveyard.. He HATED the graveyard... It housed the dead.. Those who got into incidents, those who were murdered, those who died naturally, and those whom doctors failed to save... It terrified him to even think of what the graveyard held.. If death had a presence... What would happen if that presence clung to him after he neared it, and he took that back to the patient, or worse, back to the doctor's office.

And.. It just figured that he had gotten lost... What kinda person would want to live near a grave yard anyway?! He huffed a bit, looking around to see if there was someone he could ask for directions.. And the only one he could spot were actually two people.. But.. They were.. Well, they were at the graveyard gates... Perhaps he could call out, and they'd move away from the gates, rather than him going in.

"Um... Hello!!" He called out! One of the pair seemed to be similar to him, similar meaning he looked about the same age. Weird in a way that he had these, little quirks that were strange. Like what was with the coat? It was warm out here! And then his headband... A statement to flip it to the man perhaps? What it was, he wasn't sure. But he looked nice enough.

"Can I bother you for a moment to ask for directions?!" This distance between him and the graveyard gate was atleast a hundred feet, and he didn't care that he was being loud. He was NOT going to go any closer to them.

Evening time meant one thing, that it was time for them to get to work though tonight Adelbert was only allowed to come along for first rounds. The last time he'd gone out with his Papa he'd ended up dozing off halfway through leading Beald to have to bring his son all the way back to their cabin to tuck him into bed before heading out again. It was an inconvenience he didn't want to deal with again. As such the boy would only allowed to come along with him for a full night's work when he was older.

Adelbert was carrying in his hands the heavy, metal lantern that was used to light the way once the sun fell. It was quite a burden and a weight to carry but he wouldn't complain, instead trying his hardest to be useful as well as keep up. As they reached the gates another thing was handed to him, that being the massive shovel that Beald carried at all times. It was a tool of the trade as well as a weapon for fending off would be thieves that wanted to come around poaching the cemetery for the various things the people resting here were buried with. He hadn't and wouldn't hesitate for even a second to lay someone out that dared to try to raid those he protected, something Adel knew first hand.

"Will I get my own shovel someday?" He found himself asking of his Papa as he did his best to keep from tipping over as he held the shovel in one had and the lantern in the other.

Beald turned to look down at him, starring at the boy who was near to tipping over but seeming to be trying his best before his attention went to the tall gates they were approaching, "Perhaps, that all depends upon you." And how much progress he showed. He was a child at the moment but that didn't meant that he would be letting him slack off anytime soon, if ever.

Both of them paused in what they were doing when a voice was suddenly shouting at them. Beald gave the boy in front of them a glance, just a momentary, fleeting one, before he moved to fetch the massive lock and chain that hung near the gates. He draped it over one of his shoulders before he set to pushing the gates closed and Adel gave as squeaking sound.

"Shouldn't we help him with directions?" He asked, stepping forward which got him in the way of the gate making Beald pause in his work, never something that the man appreciated, "Hes lost so... so we should help, Papa."

"If the child wishes for help he would come over to get it, not shout in such a rude manner." Beald said, "Now, scoot back so I can close the gate and bar invaders for another night." He told his boy, making Adel shuffle backwards as quickly as he could with his arms full. The gate shut firmly between the two boys and Beald was all ready to go on his way, not about to waste his time with some child that couldn't even be bothered to approach the people he was begging help from.

Adel shifted in place then looked over at the other boy, using his head to motion him closer as he handed the shovel back to his Papa, glad to be free of its weight. Without it to worry about the lantern seemed a whole lot lighter, which was quite nice. He shifted it so that he could hold it with one hand then motioned to the other boy again.

"WHAT THE HELL!!" He said outloud. He was NOT pleased at all with the rudeness the old man with the boy said. With a growl, Iri ran towards the wall, running up it with the help of his wings, and standing on the top of it. He didn't care about the fear he had so deeply rooted inside of him right now. All that mattered was the anger that was swelling up inside. The boy didn't seem so bad, but that man with him... What was wrong with him! Closing the gate on a CHILD.

He glared down at the man and his kid.

"Hey! I ASKED for some help! If you didn't want to offer any, you could have JUST said no not blow me off completely!!" he shouted, pointing at him with an accusing finger. The only reason he did not cower in fear from the graves was the anger that filled him. Why be so rude? Why not help someone in need?

"Is it because I shouted? Have you ever considered some people are AFRAID of the grave yard? I'm a doctor, trying to deliver medicine to the sick to keep them OUT of here. I bet you're the grave keepers, aren't you?! Didn't know you two were also dead inside!"

Adelbert flinched when he heard more yelling from the boy, this time accompanied by swearing. It would seem that he wasn't terribly pleased with what had happened... and then suddenly he was running over toward them, he hoped for a moment that the boy coming over to them would just clear things but that wasn't meant to be. A moment later the other child was lifting up off the ground and landing... upon the wall? The move, as well as the sound of fluttering wings, drew a gasping sound from Adel and he stumbled closer to Beald.

Beald went stock still as he looked up at the boy then his narrowed, "Stupid little fool, get down from there before you draw attention to you. Are you just begging for trouble?" He hissed, lifting his shovel up to point it at him. That he would do such a foolish thing, to expose himself for what he was in such a manner, didn't his parents warn him that he needed to keep his wings covered so as not to draw negative attention? He would guess that what he was doing now was a resounding no.

"Dead... inside...?" Adelbert looked a bit confused before he took a step closer to his Papa, his free hand lifting up to cling to the man's pant leg. What had he done to be labeled in such a manner? Just because they were grave keepers...? He ducked his head then moved to hide behind his Papa and the man's hackles seemed to rise a bit more seeing that, it was one thing to taunt him, he could care less what some spoiled brat thought of him, but Adelbert was different. He seemed to be a bit on the soft side, still needing to develop a thick skin against such things.

Beald lifted his boy up into one arm, pointing at Iri with his shovel, "Find someone else to give you your directions, child. We are obvious to below you uppity doctor sorts for you to be talking with us." He said, turning his back on the boy and started into the graveyard, deciding the best place to go if the child feared this place was straight into the place.

"I'm not a stupid little fool! I just think that if someone asks for help and it's reasonable, you should help! Don't you have any sort of morals in you?! The kid seems okay enough, but who knows how he would grow up if he has such a heartless punk as a father!" Instead of leaving, he decided that his action would be.. To hop down off the wall and go after the man and his boy.

"It doesn't matter what your occupation is, if you are a doctor or a gravedigger, anyone can be dead inside because they are mean and old and grouchy! A douche bag is a douche bag depending on who he is, not what he is!" He glared at his retreating back.

Beald paused as he heard the boy continueing his babble before he looked at his son, "This is why I am so strict with you, so that you don't end up as a driveling idiot like that one. The results of poor parenting I am quite sure and apparently by people that could care less if goes about flaunting what he is. You will never be like that Adelbert, do you hear me?"

The small boy nodded rapidly, wanting nothing more then to impress his father at his current age. While a part of him might want friends as well at this age what was more important was his Papa and the fact that the man was so terribly hard to impress. He was sure that if he tried his hardest though he might even be able to make him happy, "Yes, Papa, I hear you." He said, shifting the lantern in his hands.

The old man nodded before turning his orange eyed gaze back on Iri, "While you and your poorly inform parents may not care that your running around showing off your wings, I do. I would rather not have a bunch of zealous hunters tromping all over the graveyard looking for you. I would ask that you leave the way you came, the last thing I want in this place is trouble and that is all you can bring." He told the boy, motioning with one hand in a dismissing manner, "And if you thing that your afraid now the sun is about to set and the place will be plunged into darkness... and when the sunlight is gone is when things in this place begin to stir."

Adelbert gave another nod, "Oh! If you stay you can see the lady in white!" He told Iri, seeming to forget that they were trying to make him leave, not wanting him to stay to see one of the spirits that roamed this place.

Iri's teeth ground hard against eachother, his fists clenching up tightly as he glared at him.

"I was raised to be kind, to know when to help those in need, and to respect those who respect me! You, sir, have shown NOTHING that would ever earn any respect! Your little boy must feel suffocated! Keeping him in a dreadful place like this! I don't know what you do, and maybe at some point, I would have cared, but now, no, you insult my parents as if you knew them! Parent's can't be blamed for everything their kid does! My dads did their best in taking care of me, and am I a bad kid, no!"

He continued after him, not caring that he had some huge weapon or such. He never focused on his own health, only on the health of others.

"Look at your boy! He seems nice enough! He certainly didn't learn that from you, from what I've seen so far! And just because you have wings doesn't mean someone is going to take him! What advantage does he ave anyway, those wings aren't even something rare! For all anyone knows, it could just be a costume! People don't know "

The mention of the darkness made him freeze temporarily, and he looked around. It was true, the entire area was slowly being engulfed in darkness, and it wasn't darkness itself he was afraid of, but of being in the grave yard..

"I'm not s-scared! I have my friends who will protect me!" He glared at them. He wasn't going to give this up. "I am not leaving until you help me!"

Luckily the medicine he was delivering wasn't of anything urgent. It was simply.. Well, his dad wouldn't say what it was, but it was supposed to bring a husband and wife closer together.

Beald opened his mouth as Iri began to rant at him in such a manner before he gave pause then gave a snort, "I see, therein lays the problem doesn't it? Dads." He was raised by one of those couples, huh? It was no wonder he acted as he had, foolishness on top of foolishness and this brat seemed to want to lecture him about the way he was raising Adelbert? As though a child had any idea.

"S-Stop!" Adelbert said, clutching onto the lantern tightly, "M-My Papa is a good Papa! You s-stop saying not nice things about him!" He was instantly jumping to the man's rescue, as though Beald needed to have his honor protected or something. The older man couldn't help but to be proud but at the same time saw no reason to argue with this child about the foolish choices he was making.

"When it comes down to it, boy, if you want to get yourself killed by flying about feel free but as I said I don't want it here in my graveyard." He told him, then sighed when he was told that the brat had friends that would protect him.Wonderful, even more idiots to mess around here he thought to himself before he turned to look at Adelbert, "Adelbert, take the lantern and head back toward the house. I will take this brat to the gate and see him on his way." He said, making a motion with his hand.

Instantly the smaller boy was nodding before he turned on his heel and hurried off toward the cabin, leaving the other two behind in the growing darkness. It wasn't something that bothered Beald, he had good eyes as well as knew the graveyard like the back of his hand. He could likely navigate it eyes closed he'd been living here so long. He shifted in place before he walked forward, reaching down to grab hold of Iri by the back of his shirt and started to lead the way toward the gate, "You may have a death wish, that's fine with me, but don't bring your foolishness around my son again." He hissed at him quietly, not wanting this boy to bring anyone here that might go after Adelbert who was trying his hardest to blend in with what was normal in this world.

As they reached the gate he paused, "Where is it your going so that you can be on your way?" He asked, his voice a touch on the cold side.

"What's wrong with having dads? Why can't two people love each other?" At this point, he didn't really seem to angry about that. He was.. Well Curious to say the least. He had never heard of anyone saying anything bad about the relationship that his dads had. Well, it wasn't really a relationship. He called one dad, and he called the other dad, but they weren't TOGETHER, yet. Iri had been plotting to get the two men together for a while.. But with little success.

He watched as the boy his age began to head back to the house far off in the grave yard, and felt a little sad. He seemed nice enough, a bit of a daddy's boy, but nice, perhaps.. He didn't care what the old man said, he would be back at some point, but he'd make sure to get the boy one-on-one, rather than having someone as idiotic as the old man around.

"I'll be back, you know why? Because I'm sure your son would like a friend who has some sort of knowledge of the world outside your walls." He glared at him, but then his patient came to mind, and his gaze softened a bit.

"I'm looking for a couple of farmers.. It's a middle age couple, who live near by here.. But I can't find their homes.. "

Beald merely rolled his eyes at the question, not in the mood to explain it when he knew the kid wasn't going to listen to him anyway. It would appear as though this were were no better then the idiot teenagers that came around the wreak havoc in the graveyard. They didn't listen either until he was forced to act, what happened to the good old days when children were raised right? He missed those days.

Arriving at the gate Beald did something he rarely if ever did, he unlocked the gate while the sun was down, something he hated more then anything else in the world, "Go now, out and to the right, theirs is the house that is surrounded by a weather aged fence and there is likely a herd of animals on the porch." He said, eager for the boy to be on his way. As for his threats about returning... well he would ignore it, not wanting to think about this brat coming back to try to rub off all his indecent ways on Adelbert who, to this point, was following all of Beald's rules quite well.

"Once your done with your delivery I would suggest heading home, you may seem to think yourself invincible but your not and all your doing running around like that is putting others like yourself in danger by drawing unwanted attention to this area of the city." He said, giving him a push so he was outside the gate once more so that he could close and lock it once more.

"See? That wasn't so hard now, was it?" He gave the man a bit of a sneer, then forced a grin on his face. Although the man was mean to him, he would be graceful about his end.. atleast he will try to be.

"You know, I think Your boy would do well to have a friend like me. And my dads own a clinic where it safe for kids and others like me to come to for health services. I know that we don't get along, but for the sake of your boy, you should look into it. You never know." He held out a business card, who's emblem was a pair of wings, his wings.

"See that? There are ways to hide myself out in the open. Everyone who knows about my family's clinc think I just wear an outfit as a mascot." He gave a real smile this time, but shook his head.

"Thank you for your help. I will be back some time." He gave one last glance to the boy who had gone to the house, then hurried on his way, calling out his fireflies to be by his side in then impending darkness.
PostPosted: Tue May 17, 2011 12:27 pm

Beald looked down at the card, giving a roll of his eyes as he closed his hand around it and stuffed the somewhat crumpled piece of paper into his pocket. As though he would be going to a clinic run by such people any time soon. And a mascot? As though that would safe the kid when he went around jumping up onto tall walls with those wings of his he thought to himself as he turned around on his heel and started back into the graveyard. He didn't know who the kid was trying to fool but it wouldn't work if he went flying around so openly.

"Goodnight." He said, clinging to polite manners even if he didn't care for the reckless child in the least, it was just something that he had drilled into his skull when he was little. It didn't take more then a few steps forward before the man seemed to vanished into the darkness of the graveyard as he made his way to where he'd sent Adelbert, he would make sure that the boy got inside alright before he started his rounds.
