"I'm not sure how many of you have heard of, seen or played Amnesia, but if you haven't heard of it you should go check it out. (Especially if you're into horror and have a decent PC)

Anyway, after experiencing Amnesia I can't find any other horror games that can stand up to it in scare factor. Not that much terrified me before, but the horror of being defenseless and the only way of being safe is running and hiding leaves much to be desired in other survivals where I have weapons to defend myself with.

So, I'm asking whether after playing a certain game others find that future games didn't inspire the same fear in you anymore or anything of that sort. Though, you can mention anything that deals with horror games in general if you so wish.

I just beat Amnesia last night, and I can certainly agree that it was terrifying. As far as horror games go, though, I'm pretty inexperienced. After beating Amnesia, though, I've been inspired to play Silent Hill 2 and 3 (games my dad bought a while ago but I've never played through myself because I was too scared XD), and have been looking into other survival horror games as well. I can recommend Clock Tower 3; although it's not nearly as scary as Amnesia, it has some pretty intense moments, and it definitely gives you the same feeling of defenselessness. Besides those, I've been told to check out Fatal Frame, as well.

Amnesia ran into a problem I wouldn't be sure how to work around as a game designer, though, I thought. It was terrifying for the entire first part of the game, especially the first times you see the monsters and have no idea how you're supposed to deal with them. Eventually, though, you finally run into a monster, and at some point it probably kills you... and then you realize that that's as bad as it can get. By the later parts of the game both me and my brother went down every hallway or into every new door with the mindset, "Well, there'll either be a monster here, or there won't be. If there is, I'll try and hide and stuff, but if it sees me and kills me... eh, no big deal. I'll just respawn somewhere, and probably not too far away."

So since then I've been wondering how horror games can still be scary (aside from overloading your screens and speakers with scary visuals and intense music) after you've already experienced being killed by a monster or whatever. I'm probably overthinking it, though; people still find movies and horror stories scary, after all, and they can't even "do" anything to you, but nonetheless, Amnesia definitely got a lot less scary after the first time a monster found and killed me. It still kept me on edge throughout, though, and was definitely a good game, though I often did wonder why I couldn't use any of the hammers or saws or various torture devices lying around to fight the monsters. razz

"I'm a person who doesn't like dying in videogames, and goes throughout dying as little as possible.
Only time I died was in... God, I forgot the name of the area.
The bit with the pillars and the bridge.
So when you hardly ever die, the fear is still there.
But with a lot of games when you have a weapon, or have gained more powerful weapons I have expierenced that the fear no longer exists.

And I don't find horror movies scary, only videogames.

I've been meaning to play Fatal Frame, but some games... you just can't find here in Aus. I've also heard of Clock Tower a few times but have yet to check it out.
And Silent Hill is nothing to me compared to Amnesia now(and it used to freak me out a little as well, but being defenseless compared to being able to atleast beat the crap outta something is a big difference to me. I'm the sort that charges forward going "I can't beat the s**t outta you!" and then when I can't... well.)

While I haven't played Amnesia, I'm like you Hero horror/scary videogames scare me more than movies. I played The Suffering for a little while and I refused to play that game at night or without a light on.

"Ahahaha.
It's more of things just randomly creaking in the night afterwards, things that do not usually creak, except after I've played a horror game that freak me out after. I can can play a game in the dark, I have no problem with the dark.

I've played it, but I'm a right sissy when it comes to spontaneous shocks. I didn't mind the cockraoches when you get a bit delusional but as soon as I started seeing creatures I became a bit edgy...
The eerie atmosphere does not help.

To save myself from petrification, I uninstalled it. Although I've reinstalled it recently, I'll give it another try some time soon.

Even the goblins from Oblivion get to me at times...
I was playing today and I was running away from Umbra at level 1 (like you do), the sheer thought of her hacking away with speed behind me scared me.
Needless to say I jumped when the sword made contact...

Amnesia is a really nice change of pace though, definitely worth it if you're into horror and much eeriness.

"You kind of remind me of my bf in that way.
He gets scared going into caves/ruins/ect. in Oblivion.
Sadly for him, when het gets his computer I'm forcing him to play Amnesia.

Aw roflmao! Can't blame him, the sound really creates an uneasy atmosphere.
And, how mean!
I feel his pain.

"Long as I have a weapon in my hand, I'm afraid of nothing.
Well, he kinda asked for it because I showed him a video of Amnesia that was supposed to be funny, but he stopped watching it before he finished because it scared him.
I have to take advantage of it.

"So, my sister has decided to play Amnesia.
She has just reached the dungeons... and she crawled into a cell and just lost it, started freaking out and crying.
"
XD XD XD XD

Edit; She was just killed. She tried to crawl away from the Gatherer.
XD

Edit 2; she just ran into another Gatherer coming out of the kitchen... turned around... and ran straight into it.
XD XD XD
