A small calico kitten walked out of the University. She was carrying a case holding her favorite instrument, her flute. She had just finished her dancing lessons with her mother, which always put her in a bad mood. The kitten was tall, thin and awkward for her age so dancing really wasn't made for her body. She sighed and took out her flute, assembling it and starting to play it, the sweet music floating across the wind.

---

Raziel was totally in for it when he got home, that he knew for sure. Still, he couldn't keep the amused grin off his face as he raced down the sidewalk, chasing a squirrel who had come a little too close. His copper tabby fur gleamed in the morning sunlight, soaking up the heat. He slowed as he heard the first few notes of a piper, his ears pricking up. Ooh, had birds truly learned to sing, or what? Interested and intruiged, the tabby prowled closer, his pink bangs bouncing against his sun-kissed skin.

---

Ma-Kus ears pricked up, the grey and pink haired kitten thinking that she heard a sound. She shook her head, assuming that she hadn't heard anything and continue to play. She was still learning how to play the flute but she was getting quite good at it, since she had classes every day in the University. That was one of the perks of growing up as a daughter of a student in the university, she got to live there too and take part in classes. She very much liked this becuase she got to learn how to fight, how to sing, how to dance and how to play various instruments. Her ears pricked up again as she heard russling again but she continued playing, sure that if it were another cat she would be able to take it on.

---

Raziel crept forwards, surprisingly graceful for a kid, excitement flickering around his green irises. His braid bounced on his t-shirt clad shoulder, tied off with a rubber band. His bangs flared around his face, framing an almost adrogynous face. Ever-grinning, he took note of the way the long-legged girl played a thin, silver instrument. The music...was beautiful. Raziel wasn't a fan of noise in particular but this... Fluting, reedy, delicate. Like her. He smiled and stepped forwards, into the sunlight. "Heytheremissy!"

---

Ma-Ku looked her, her ears flicking forward as she did when she saw the kitten walk out of the grass. So she was right then? There was someone on the grass. She took the flute away from her lips, looking at the kitten for a second before smiling a toothy grin. "Hallo there." she said, putting the flute on her lap, her fluffy tail flicking slightly as she did. She looked at him a bit curiously, she hadn't seen many kittens around here so she was surprised to see him. "Are you from around here? I've never seen you before?" she asked her voice soft but filled with confidence and athority

---

"Huh? Oh, me? Noway. I'm not." The words came, a rapid stream, barely pause between them. He grinned right back, fearless it seemed, of the little kitten with calico fur. "I love your tail." He pulled on his tiger-striped tail, fluffy around the base near his rump but smoothing out like his Momma's. "I'm from... Ummmm..." He placed a finger on his lips, searching the blue skies with those deep green eyes. "They're apartments, anyway. Where is this? This is your home, wherever it is?" He asked.

---

Ma-Ku had a bit of trouble understanding the other kitten. He spoke very quickly and every sentence took a few seconds to actually sink in. "Do you ever breathe?" she asked him, grinning as she did so. The slightly tanned girl beamed back "Thank you! I really like your stripes! I haven't seen a lot of kittens around here, you see. We seem to be one of the only litters living close to here. Ma-Ku then thought, the looked over to the sign, reading it. "We're living here in the University! There's all sorts of music and dancers and singers and stuff around here. If you want to live here you have to be good at something!" she said proudly. Of course, the kitten had technically not earned her place in the University but was simply born there.

---

Raziel blinked at her, wide-eyed before giving a whooping laugh. "I breathe, I breathe! I still live, don't I?" he teased lightly, wagging a finger at her. He ran both hands through his pink, slightly curled hair, then slid a little closer. Hey, she was so friendly! And he was bored. This was a good adventure! "University," he pondered, looking around. "I think Papa's talked of it before." He nodded quickly, taking in her words of excitement. "Dancing? Dancing is fun! But I can't sing." He offered a goofy grin, almost sheepish. "Momma says I sound like 'fingernails on a chalkboard'."

---

Ma-Ku laughed. Most people would be taken aback with how she spoke but this boy seemed like fun. "Well I suppose you must breath if you still exist in the world. But maybe you breath using another system, like holes in your sides, the way insects do?" she said with a giggle. The female patted the ground beside him, inviting him to sit beside her if he liked. "This place is lots of fun! Although there are very few kittens so we only really have each other to play with." The female laughed. "You're lucky you like dancing, I can't dance at all! mama says it's because I'm too tall and my legs are too long! But I can sing and I can play the flute and I can fight!" she said with a grin and then giggle on him comement about his singing. "I'm sure you're not that bad!" she exclaimed

---

With that, Raziel had a quizzical expression on his face. "Really? You think?" Grabbing the hem of his t-shirt, he lifted to expose a flat, tawny stomach and...you guessed it, no breathing holes. "Holycrap. I was scared there for a minute, miss--hey! What's your name?" His head tipped to the side, ears nearly folding over. "Aww, I know what you mean," he said. "I only have my one brother and he's a smarty-pants. He's not one to look for adventure, yanno?" He looked down her long legs when she claimed them as hers, and he grinned. "I like your legs. Tall girls are cute." He shrugged his shoulders a bit and laughed it off. "Hey, maybe you can play the flute, or sing...and I will dance."

---

Ma-Ku giggled when he checked his chest for breathing holes. It has been a piece of information that she had learned recently, that insects did not breath the ways cats did but rather with holes in their body. She thought this was facinating. She laughed brightly. "Didn't mean to scare you, just trying to logically think how you could talk so fast and live at the same time! My names Ma-Ku! And what's yours?" she said with a broad smile. She was glad that she had a new friend, that wason't one of her siblings. No matter how much she loved them sometimes they drove her mad. "Yeah both of my siblings spend a lot of time learning how to train and stuff so we don't hang out all too much!" She chuckled, slightly embaressed, lookign down at her legs. "Mama is right though, they're good for running but no good for dancing!" The female nodded before blowing her fringe out of her eyes. "That sounds like fun! I'm still learning the flute but any chance to practice and play for someone is brilliant! Plus I'd like to see you dance!" she added, her blue and gold eyes lighting up.

---

"Ma-Ku. Maku? Maaaakuuuuu..." He tried it out various ways. "I will call you Mak. Like mac and cheese! Because, well. It's YUMMY yanno?" He did a little circle around her, a little dance to show what was to come. "Um. Name, right. I'm Raziel. Like...the angel, Raziel. My brother's Rhamiel, and we're named after angels becauuuuuse...my Papa is my Momma's guardian angel." He puffed out his skinny chest with smile. "Aww. Siblings are boring. Sometimes ya just need good ol' friends! Yanno what? I like you, Mak. Maybe after this, we can go running!" As her eyes lit up, he motioned for her to start playing, getting ready to dance his heart out.

---

Ma-Ku laughed as the boy tried to pronounce her name. "It's Ma-Ku. Apparently she's the goddess of Spring in China. All of the kittens in my Mama family are named after gods and goddesses. So is my grand mama! It's kind of like a family tradition I suppose." she said smiling. She then grinning. "I'm fine with being called Mak! It's nice to have a nickname!" she said smiling, secretly happy that she actually had someone to call her a nickname. "Raziel huh? Is it okay if I call you Raz? It's much easier to say!" The girl nodded "Yeah sometimes siblings are boring! And I like you too Raz! Running sounds like fun! It's actually something I can do well with these legs!" Ma-Ku then nodded as she brought the flute to her lips and started playing it, a soft, elven sound melody being produced as she blew.

---

Raziel grinned at her excitement--his own bubbled up like a froth, making his heart skip and dance. "Mak 'n' Raz. The Dynamic Duo. I liiiike it!" he laughed. When she liked the idea of running, he grinned at his fortune--it would be nice to have a partner who actually...tried to beat him. Not that his brother couldn't, but Raziel was full of bounding energy. And Mak...she seemed to have it too! He settled back as she began to play, a beautiful melody streaming from the thin silver instrument. Slowly, Raz began to dance, closing his eyes and weaving to the beat. He looked like the male version of a bellydancer, or perhaps a snake charmer. His ears pricked, long tail swaying, doing a couple of spins, a serene smile on his face. Oh, if his parents could see him now.

---

Ma-Ku giggled, beaming as Raziel spoke. "I really like it! We sound like some kind of crime fighting team! Mak 'n' Raz! Taking down criminals one bad guy at a time!" she said, her voice taken on that of a tv show presenter. She loved the idea of going running with Raziel. She was bored of just playing with her siblings and Raz seemed like he'd be able to give her a good run for her money, if you will excuse the pun. Ma-Ku continued to play, letting the music carry her away, as she so often did. More importantly she was also watching Raz dance, which was fasinating. She had never seen a cat dance like that. Her mother had such a different style. She smiled as she played, glad to see someone actually enjoying her music.

---

Crime-fighting... Oh that was awesome. Kicking bad-guy tail together. Something Rhami would never do, the little bookworm. Raz's smile leaked from peaceful to determined, his movements getting quicker, more fluid. He pranced around for a little bit, braid bouncing against his back, forehead beading with a light coat of sweat. Finally he paused, bowing deep and shooting Mak an ornery grin. "Wow, that was relaxing. I practised alot at him, but...never performed. Darn, maybe we should be crime fighting musicians! Build a band! Razmak. Mak...raz.. Razmatazz... Oh heck, I dunno. But you're great!" He leapt forwards, swinging her in a friendly hug. "Ready for that race?"

---

Ma-Ku quickened the pace of her playing when she saw that Raz was getting more into the beat. She blew into the flute, barly taking time for breaths. That was one of the best things about playing the flute, other then the play was how it allowed her to control her breathing much better, a very useful talent. She stopped when Raz finished and put the flute down, clapping as he came over. "That was loads of fun! I really enjoyed that. I've never had anyone dance to my music before. All fo my sibling play instruments so we all play together rather than dance." she said with a smile. "Oh gosh crime fighting musicians would be so cool!! We could totally do that!!" she explaimed happily before hugging the kit back before quicky disassembling the flute and put it back in its case. "Okay I'm ready to run! On my count! One....two...three....go!" she shouted, running ahead of him, laughing, so glad she finally had a friend.
