Evelyn scratched the back of her neck. "Of course." She nodded, looking over at Merlin. She shook her head. Worst explaination ever. She thought, grinning to herself.

 Merlin was blushing furiously as he gave Morgana and Evelyn a self-conscious grin. Catching sight of Arthur coming with Lady Katherine, he hurriedly finished putting the lunch and blanket on Magnus, then led the three horses out to where the nobility could mount them. He gave Arthur a smile, his high cheekbones still pink. "I packed a lunch."

 Though it had not occurred to Arthur to ask Merlin to pack a lunch, he took the credit without missing a beat. "Of course you did," he said to the gangly boy, giving him a light shove that was meant to be friendly but nearly knocked Merlin over. "Good afternoon, Morgana. Ladies -- and I mean you, too, Merlin -- shall we get on with it?" Arthur put a foot in Valentine's stirrup and swung up into the saddle.

Merlin knelt beside Lady Katherine's horse, lacing his fingers for her to step into so he could boost her into the saddle. He didn't know Katherine very well and had never seen her around horses, so he was unsure if she was as good a horsewoman as Morgana -- who would have slugged him if he'd made the offer of aid to her he was making to Katherine. Of course, if he didn't and Katherine was used to mounting like a lady, he'd be in just as much trouble. All Merlin knew was that he'd rather mildly offend Lady Katherine than risk the wrath of Lady Morgana!

Morgana placed her boot in the left stirrup swinging her right foot over and planting it into the other stirrup, mounting her horse easily and sitting comfortably in the saddle.

"Sure," Merlin smiled at Katherine. He decided that, for a noble lady, she was pretty nice. Putting his foot into Magnus' stirrup, he climbed up to the saddle, and they were ready to set out. Though Merlin had never ridden a horse before coming to Camelot, he had taken to it quickly, and was already an accomplished rider. "See you later, Evelyn!" he called to the serving girl, as he followed Arthur and the ladies down to the side gates leading to the meadows before the Darkling Woods.
