"Hold the gemstone against your chest," instructed Julius, folding his hands. His blindfold began to glow as he started to weave the spell.

Amalthea's wings shivered one more time. Then she clutched Rakuen tightly, more tightly than she ever had before. Her knuckles turned white.
Okay.
A sudden wave of nausea hit her as the gem lost its former shine, and for a moment it felt like she was clutching something soft and vaguely sticky.
Then the gemstone MOVED. It flowed up her arms and torso like water, curling rapidly to meet at her shoulders, where it split to go down her legs and twine around her neck as the nausea increased. She felt the urge to scratch, to get it off as quickly as possible, but... no. It was Rakuen, this was what she wanted, right? Right?!
She let out a small, tight gasp before what had been the gemstone washed over her face, and a sudden twist in her gut made her fall over. Amalthea gagged, her stomach muscles heaving.
This.. this wasn't beautiful. Rakuen had said it would be wonderful! Rakuen had said-
Amalthea?
Oh...
I'm coming, Rakuen! She was so dizzy, she could no longer tell which way was up or down or left or right or anything. I'm coming, I'm coming, I'm-
Here. Here!
Something caught, held tight, flowed together, and an ecstatic tingle ran up Amalthea's body despite the nausea.

The whirlwind of sensation that threatened to consume her began to die down until it was a mere throbbing ache in her back and arms and legs. The light of Julius was gone. But the area beneath the porch was not pitch black. A basement window opened onto the scattered stones, casting enough light for certain things to be seen.
