Think of it this way....
It use to 1000g to get regular flying aka Master's License back in the day and you had to wait to 70 to get it. The same goes for the Expert Flying and it has always stayed the same price (5k without city rep discount.)
Cold weather flying use to be... 1k so that has come a long way for chopping the price in half.
Easiest way to get 8k... Sell gathered stuff in Northerend and Outlands.
(Ore, Herbs, Cloth, etc.) That stuff sells pretty well. The bonus to gathering professions you get XP bonus now for mining and herbing, so you can get your money on and get experience in leveling.

I knew a gal who farmed most the time and got to 85 that way without questing. Made about 120k in a month's time.
