Another troublesome day. They were getting longer and unbearable and most troublesome. Why couldn't things be in order? Of course he knew he couldn't control the sun nor the moon nor the weather, but what of things he could control? Like his hunting techniques? Wrong. His posture? Wrong. The way he stood? Wrong. Everything had to be perfect and balanced. As a cub, he trained himself to walk perfectly, to speak perfectly, to flick his ears and tail a certain way, to look and gaze a certain way, to react to something a certain way. Why couldn't others get with the program? Why couldn't others react as he did? It often drove his mother mad with confusion. He loved her, he really did and he knew she loved him, but she would never understand how he worked. Not until she strove to be perfect herself.
He mulled around thinking of the word as he began assorting the pebbles and rocks around him from smallest to largest. He made sure that each little detail was correct, was precise. His eyes missed nothing as he put together many rows of many different shaped, colored, and sized rocks. It's how he spent most of his time. He often mumbled to himself as well as argue as to whether one was a tad bit bigger than the other or the shade of color was a tad darker. He growled and mumbled and chuffed and coughed all the while distracted by his rocks.

Depressing. That one word could easily sum up her day. First she had awoken from a nightmare in which she relived the death of her parents, then, she missed her kill during a hunt, and as if missing it wasn't bad enough another lioness had managed to bring it down and saw fit to taunt her about her lack of skill. She doubted if the day could get any worse and so she wandered, aimless and distracted across the savannah.
A strange clicking noise brought her out of her memories and she stopped, her head tilted to the side as she tried to figure out where the noise was coming from. Sensing that there was something lurking in the grass ahead of her she narrowed her eyes and slowly made her way forward. As she got closer she could see dark red and black fur, a lion. She paused again wondering if she dare approach him, he seemed to be deeply concerned with the rocks he was poking about with his claws and she really had no desire to be on the receiving end of a temper tantrum for distracting him but, she couldn't help herself.
"Excuse me..." she spoke softly as she pushed her way through the last bit of grass that had been obscuring him from her view. She settled into a seated position carefully, her tail wrapping around her to rest gently across her front paws and she stared at him wondering what he would make of her interruption.

His mind was in deep thought of putting his rocks in their proper placement. His ears flicked and curled and rolled, facial expression changing with every paw movement. Right. No wrong, that should be here. Yes, better. Good, good... The male's thoughts were a frenzy just about as quick as his paw movements until suddenly there was a voice.
And there went his carefully concentrated efforts.
The male turned his head with a glare at the intruder who dare mess with him. It was unnerving. The fact that he was clearly busy meant nothing to this female that he now gazed upon. She was just another passerby too curious to keep her nose where it didn't belong: his rocks. Coughing, he dug his claws into the ground to prevent a unnecessary happening. "Yes?" He couldn't help the growl that formed in his throat, silver eyes staring daggers at the girl.

The response he gave her, claws digging into the ground, deep gruff growl that accompanied his single word reply and the glare he was sending her way were not lost on her, not at all, but she couldn't find it in her to be afraid. Unnerved yes, but not afraid. Quirking a brow she stared at him for a few moments before deciding that she had interrupted him and it was best she keep up the conversation lest she have ruined his concentration for nothing, even though she wasn't exactly sure what about the rocks required such deep thought.
"I was just..." and here she paused, unsure what to say, I was just hoping to chat? Not likely to go over very well with him. I was just wondering what's so interesting about a bunch of rocks? Also not likely to go over well. Sighing she scrunched up her face as she tried to think of a response that would be a decent excuse for interrupting him. "...just wondering what you were trying to do with those rocks?" it was the best thing she could come up with hopefully he didn't take offense to it and decide to turn her into his next meal.

The male arched his eyebrow watching her closely. Did she have a vision problem? Was she slow? Another imperfection distracting him from his cause. His claws continued to tense into the ground, tail lashing out behind him impatiently. This had better be good...
And of course it wasn't. She fumbled on the first go as she stopped herself mid sentence. He cantered his head to hear her feeble reason as to why she bothered him. She finally replied and it...oddly enough he didn't have an emotion for it. No one had really bothered to ask him about his hobbies and therefore he never really had an answer. Blinking a few times, he looked down at the rocks then back to the female. "Ahh...it's a hobby...I put them in order of how they're supposed to be." His tail flicked a little turning away to look down at the assortment he currently had. His claws sheathed for now waiting for the next question that would come out of her mouth.

A flick of her tail, a twitch of her ears and a cocking of her head were the first reactions to his statement. How they are supposed to be? her mind turned the statement around and around as she tried to figure out if there was indeed a correct way for rocks to be arranged when in the presence of other rocks.
Finally deciding that there were probably multiple "correct" ways to arrange them she pondered over whether she should voice that conclusion to him, he seemed to be very particular about his current way of doing it and she really didn't want to anger him but... well, other ways of thinking did a lion good and so, she took a breath and then gathered a few pebbles to her and began to arrange them by color, lightest to darkest.
"You arrange them by size... but... what about by color? Like this?" she questioned as she moved her paw back and looked at her short line of multicolored pebbles.

The male had fumbled with his rocks a little not really paying attention to her anymore. Only when she spoke again did he turn in annoyance and was greeted with a bit of a surprise. "Color?" He tilted his head a little canting his body over so that he could get a closer look.
Her rocks were of different sizes but for the most part they were small. The colors were...interesting choices but he could already see a flaw. With quick movements, he rearranged three of her rocks then nodded. "Yup. Now that's better." He nodded then went back to his rocks. "Color isn't a bad idea, but go hunting for different colors? Rather just sort by size since sizes are easier to find than different colors." He gave her an glance. "But you are on to something."
The large, dark male then went back to sorting what little rocks he had. He was done after a few moments and simply had the satisfaction of looking at them before the itch came back to sort through them again. He stood up to stretch stealing glances at her rocks. Strangely he didn't feel the urge to change them around. They were - oddly enough - quite perfect they way they were. His gaze went to her studying her. "What is your name?" He found himself asking. Why in the Fates did he ever ask for anyone's name? Especially a female...he was awkward with this sort of thing. He shouldn't have opened his mouth, shouldn't have asked...

A small smile crossed her features as he all the same as approved of her methods though he seemed a bit reluctant to do so? Perhaps she was just imagining it, maybe this was just how he was about everything, and so she shrugged it off. "Ah but I know a place where there are many rocks of many different colors... and sizes." her response was the same as a counter to his words about sizes being easier to find, to her it seemed as though he was too lazy... or perhaps busy, to be bothered to look for the colors but she wouldn't tell him that. She had manners after all.
A question was asked of her and it took her a moment to grasp what he had said. Her name? Hmm... well a name could do no harm and so she smiled, eyes glimmering as it reached them and she responded, voice soft and gentle "Keilani. And who, may I ask, are you?" she shifted to a more comfortable sitting position and tilted her head to the side just a bit as she waited for his response.
