In A’Meiya’s mind what she had performed was the perfect move to catching the captain off guard, to appear as one (the defence) and then strike as another, a cobra in disguise. Quick and fast her Master had taught her “Don’t let them catch you.” Strike immediately and then disappear. ”But always, always use your head!” followed with a head slap by him and it was safe to say Mei had not remembered that part of his advice. At all.
As her legs came round she felt the familiar feel of a hand clamping down on her ankle and immediately regretted showing off. Because that was what she was doing at the end of the day. She wanted to show off, her talent, her skills, all in front of more trained warriors. She had lost her head (which wasn’t that difficult to do) and now she was going to pay the price. The ground was an almost welcomed force as it pressed deep into her back after the fall, which felt like eternity, or was that ‘embarrassments’ doing? She couldn’t tell, but what she could tell was that her face was turning bright red. The impact was lost on her as Jianyu held her down in a textbook defeat. If he hadn’t noticed before he would have certainly seen it now as she stared up at him with those big, big eyes. She was starting to cry.
“Oh...O-Oh, No, no, no!! Oh you silly, silly, stupid girl!” She whimpered, hands coming up to hide the tears that failed to stop. Her face now scattering with dust and dirt she scrunched up her eyes and almost went foetal as her now inner dialogue berated her for being reckless. She felt herself supported by Jianyu as she was pulled up, her fists now in tight little balls with her elbows tucked in at her torso she started to pat the ground with her feet. She was having a tantrum. A mini one at least as she still had some ‘dignity’ left, but none the less a tantrum.
“Oh Mister-san, you are right, please –“ she bowed again, her hands coming together just under her head as she lowered her back. “-please, please forgive me! Master Yomo would be so disgraced if he saw my actions! I have …I-I have…fai-…I h-ave..f-fuh-fuh-fuh-failed HIM!” (Shower anyone?) The tears sprang forth as she fell towards the ground, her knees together but her legs going out to the sides so she could sit on her behind, her head well and truly stuck deep into her hands. The tears would have continued for some time if it wasn’t for Jianyu’s very detailed account of her failings, but also the small promise of what could be. She sniffed strongly, a hand pushed beneath her nose that was running just as much as her eyes and she peered up at him, her brain wanting to prove it was him saying these words as if her ears were lying. Even Huang, although slightly more spite in his words still was giving her useful criticism, not the harsh backtalk her Master would rain down upon her for failing this oh so simple task of winning against a captain(!)
“Mister-san?” she sniffed again, her eyes blurry but instead of sorrow they now had the gleam they held when she first appeared. She saw him push Huang towards her, saw the tension and the flow of his movements as he prepared himself for the mock fight, she had a second chance! With the ease of so many hundred lunges her legs skilfully pushed her back up with out a moment’s hesitation or strain and she stood facing her new opponent. A deep breath and a quick shake of her head to clear the tears from her features and she was smiling again, but now with a hint of seriousness about her.
“Mister-san! Thank you!” She shouted, and once again pulled herself into the defensive pose she had done earlier, but now something was different. Now it was more solid and sure of itself, her fists were tight and flexed ready to defend. She had advice on her side now, advice from two trained warriors…for all of two seconds.
With a devilish glint she pulled back and struck, her body twisting from her hips to allow her leg to copy the round house kick Jianyu had done to Huang before, aiming for his head she hoped to strike him a side blow at the temple. Dodged or not she stopped mid air, her leg posed at a 45degree angle above where his forehead would, or should have been and brought it crashing down. Deflected or not as it landed she didn’t pause to see the possible damage and flung her self into a back flip away from her opponent. She knew it would be a matter of time before the winning move would catch her out so any hits landed were a short lived celebration. Folding back into her pose she readied herself for the onslaught that Huang was surely preparing.

The crying was...unexpected.
Jianyu stared at A'Meiya, trying to figure out just what exactly was going through the girl's head. He had never met anyone quite like her before; she seemed to wear her heart blatantly on her sleeve, her reactions extravagant, yet sincere. He had no doubt that she was honestly quite upset, but showing this upset so freely...it was a very strange feeling.
He shifted awkwardly from one foot to another, casting a somewhat confused glance at Huang-Fu as if to say what now? But after a moment, Jianyu gave an exasperated sigh, all but rolling his eyes.
"Come now, come now," he said, and hauled A'Meiya to her feet, clasping his hands against the sides of her face, which were streaked wet with the tears. "Do not cry," he said sternly, giving her a reproachful look before letting go. "Showing your emotions so openly is a certain way of losing track of what it is that you are straining for. Do you wish to prove yourself to us, or not?"
There were titters from the students around him, wide-eyed glances and a few stifled laughs until Jianyu shot them an annoyed look, after which they shut up rather abruptly. They all knew that the Captain did not tolerate any sort of misbehavior or disrespect within his unit, and taking pleasure in the discomfort of others was certainly one of those forms of disrespect.
Jianyu may or may not have been tormenting Huang-Fu a little bit when he pushed him into the ring with A'Meiya. In a way it was sort of a punishment for his student's earlier lack of concentration in their own fight; Huang-Fu, with his status as a Fighter and a gifted, intelligent young man should not have made such a sloppy mistake. But on the other hand, Jianyu was more amused by the girl than he probably should have been; despite her rather...outlandish nature, she was quite...entertaining.
That, and he really just wished to see how Huang would handle fighting a girl for once.
"And...fight!"

Of course this wasn't a good idea. What the goddess was Jianyu thinking of pushing a assassin out on the ground for a one on one match with a female academy student of the noble side. No...Jianyu was a sly creature, Huang knew this of his master, even as he looked over at him, squinting when he saw that his master was clearly enjoying himself. Probably mostly at the girl's expense, Jianyu did have the weirdest humor of the people Huang had met so far in his life. Even so, He gritted his teeth as he continued to hold his defensive position as Jianyu talked to the girl. Lady A'Meiya........was crazy in Huang's terms.
What Noble girl just came parading into a training ground!?!? He was so perturbed in the thought that he had only barely enough time, after hearing a muffled "And...Fight!" to clear his head and focus, something he was lucky enough to do as Lady A'Meiya made her first move only seconds after telling the fight to begin. She instantly went into offensive which made it easier for Huang to shift his body a few degree's. He could see her intent instantly, a spark in the eyes as she mimicked the roundhouse Jianyu had pulled on him. This time he was read the attack and deflected it with the forearm before steeping back when her leg came centimeters of his face crashing down. It was a brilliant move for a student, but nothing Huang hadn't seen from others. Just as her offensive had been quick, so was her retreat as she back flipped away. Curious, Huang furrowed his eyes brows at her as she set herself up in a defensive position.
"Very good Lady A'Meiya!" Huang gave her a brief nod, "You learned from your first mistake." he said quietly as he debated his next move. He personally didn't like fighting women, since he had killed the Noble Captain months ago, he had certain limitations set up in him that made him unable to not see the dying face. Trying to clear his mind, he set forward in a swift step, appearing almost instantly in front of A'Meiya before dropping down to a side sweep leg kick, aiming to unbalance her and have her crashing to the ground. It was to Huang, though only approach to defeat her without hurting her. Of course the move could be easily avoided if she jumped, in which case Huang would have to be quick in slamming her down.

Ahh but you see that was the point wasn't it. Anyone concentrating, anyone on the ball, anyone just plain normal would have seen the sweeping leg coming from a mile away. Anyone not A'Meiya Quan. A child would have seen it, even the crows flying over the trampled training grounds could see it coming and subsequently let out a roar of squawking laughter as they watched the scene below. As you see flattery will get you anywhere and with Mei, well, it got you one dazed and befuddled young student.
"He thinks am learning, ahhhhhhh!" The dreamy look returned across her features as a sigh full of teenage love escaped her lips. It was a moment after this that her feet left the comfort of the ground and gained hight level with her eyes. It took a second, but a second too long for her to realise she was quite nearly horizontal as she fell back with a bang. The floor again catching her previous bruises with a jab, the pain seeming so much worse this time around as she lay there stunned into silence. Yet that wouldn't last.
"...wow....Oh wow!" She whispered. Had the knock broken those last few brain cells? It was a theory worth looking into as she brought her hands up to beneath her chin and squealed loudly into her balled up fists.
"Eeeii, ohh wow! That was a perfect swing, I just got defeated by the most perfect leg sweep I've ever seen! Eiiiiii!!" She was back on her feet before the noise pouring from her mouth had stopped as she bounced on the ground. Her back still hurting but the haze of admiration masking the pain for her to be crazy for a little while more. It was Huang who had her full attention now though.
"Oh Mister-san! You are amazing! I have been training all my life, still an infant in my skills but renowned in my hotas for being highly accomplished and still you are able to get me on my back with a simple leg sweeping technique! Ohhhh Mister-san!" She bowed low as if she couldnt get to the floor fast enough with her head and pounded her feet on the ground as if she were about to set off running.
"Mister-san! Please allow me to challenge you again when I have reached a skill worthy of yours!!" She shouted the words as if he were stood miles away and held up her hands in a sign of prayer, hoping he would accept this offer that he would surely disapprove. Her body snapped up and flung itself towards Jianyu, her hands clasping round his arm as she looked up at him begging.
"Please Mister-san Jianyu, don't you think it is better this way? Hmm? Please, oh please agree! Agree!" The girls frantic behaviour may be becoming a slight concern.
