Dianthe:
Dianthe lay under a small tree, shading herself from the sun beating down upon the land. She sighed and flicked her tail restlessly. Today was the day, she resolved. Today she would say at least one sentence to another. One sentence was a realistic goal. With a thump, she lay her head on the ground and put her paws over her eyes in self conflict. She must have looked pretty weird to any passerby, but she didn't really think too hard about that.
"This is quite a conundrum" She thought aloud.

How long had it been since he had actually wandered? The thought rolled about Aoha's rather empty mind as he plodded along. His tail flicked abck and forth, his ears where relaxed against his mane... but where was his mind? Sure his father was happy again, his sister Givenna, well... Aoha assumed she was happy. He hadn't seen his family in so long that he had once entertained the notion that he was the only lion left... Was he? Heaving a sigh he closed his eyes and kept walking, only to stop when he caught the scent of another. Was he dreaming?

Opening his eyes he scanned the horizon, his eyes settling on the white form of the lioness, or at least, he -thought- it was a lioness, she looked a bid off though... laying in the shade of a tree. He needed to ease his own lonliness... but why would he do it? She would probably just run away anyways, leaving him alone once more. Unable to make up his mind, his sat down and watched her.

Sighing, she rolled over on her side, removing her paws from her eyes. Socializing was a very hard thing to do. One had to know what to say, and who to say it to. You had to be careful not to just bound up to someone grumpy or you could get a smack. Dianthe knew this from past experience. Of course, it could be very rewarding as well, she could actually talk to someone! That thought sent her bolting into a sitting position.

"I can't just talk to someone! Her frantic mind shouted! That's it, she was doomed to lay alone forever, under the shade of the tree she thought of as home. Doomed to panicked thoughts of meeting another and screwing it up!

"Ugh" She groaned, stretching out and trying to shake her thoughts forcefully from herself. It was then she caught site of the male watching her and froze. And then, overwhelmed by all her thoughts and emotions, she passed out on the spot.

Aoha wasn't really thinking of much as he watched her. He was more curious than aything. Of course he had seen a lioness before, for goodness sakes he had been around his sisters long enough to see them full grown, but what had his curiousity piqued was why this lioness was sitting under the tree with her head buried under her paws. He had actually looked around to see if perhaps she had been playing a game with a cub but when he didn't see anyone else around he had gone back to watching her, his face contorted with confusion and thought.

When she sat up so quickly he actually had flinched for he had been so focused on his thoughts that he had kind of forgotten he was watching her. Seeing her gaze catch his he had opened his mouth to say a hello or something to not make it seem so awkward that he had been watching her for some time but the next thing that happened had him even more confused than before. Had she really fainted!? Hurrying forward he sat in front of her, his tail waving back and forth trying to fan her face with his tail feathers. "Errr... Miss? Are you alright?" He said awkwardly, ready to jump back if she decided to freak out on him.

Cool air being fanned across her face brought her back to reality, Peeling open her eyes, she looked up, trying to situate herself so that she looked less awkward. Though she supposed it was already too late for that, who fainted at the mere sight of another? And how was she supposed to explain herself? Her first attempt at speech merely resulted in an embarrassing squeak. She hung her head and tried again.

"F-fine." A word! She had spoken aloud to another! It was so exciting that she dared look at the lion before her. Now another, she urged herself.

"I...hello..." She stumbled, trying to think of something intelligent to say so she didn't just sound like a blathering fool.

Out of common decency and personal space, Aoha backed up a few steps, keeping a wary eye on her just in case she decided to faint again. "Hello...." He said a little cautiously as if his speech might send her over the edge and actually kill her. His tail curled around his feet as he sat there, a skeptical look plastered on his face. "Did the heat get to you? I didn't mean to surprise you..." He said, raising an eyebrow as if to give her a scapegoat so she wouldn't have to confess whatever it was that made her faint.

She was a very curious lioness, that was for sure. "I didn't disturb anything did I? You looked like you were having quite a fuss up until you passed out." What was he doing? He didn't usually go up and strike a conversation with sone random lion, perhaps it was just that he was a bit worried about her. What honest lion would let a lioness pass out and he go on walking as if nothing happened?

Trying so hard she almost went cross eyed, she managed to open her mouth, and urge a sentence out. "Not the heat. I'm...you..and the talking. It's so hard." she mumbled quickly.

Oh this isn't how it's supposed to go at all! I sound like an idiot! Frustration showed on her face as she had another internal battle with herself. Here was her chance to have a conversation. And he was a nice enough looking lion and all she could do was stammer like an idiot.

"I'm s-sorry" She gazed sadly at the ground, unable to work out her words and deal like a normal lioness.

Aoha sat there, his mouth hanging open a bit. He didn't know if he should say something or if he should just sit there and stare. "Wha-? Me?" He raised a brow, confusion coming across his face once more. "Talking is difficult for you?" He said, cocking his head to the side. His tail flicked back and forth a bit, his ears perked forward to try and catch her every stuttered word.

"Don't be sorry..." He said gently, shaking his head from side to side. "I can leave if you'd like?" His tone was indicating a question, but his body language showed that he would stay if she wanted. I wonder if I can help... He thought to himself. Heck, he had helped his father through terrible depression, so why couldn't he help a lioness stumble through a simple conversation?

Timidly, she hung her head. Briefly, she wondered why this was so hard, and if it meant there was something wrong with her. Shrugging off that path of thought-for she knew it would lead to more rolling around about the ground like a crazed lioness-she looked at the stranger.

"I'm..trying," She squeezed her eyes shut after each word as if it were painful. "Dianthe" She managed, in way of greeting.

She knew that she must seem like a complete and utter crazy lioness, but hey, there was really nothing she could do about that. Trying even harder, she offered him a small, what she hoped was pleasant, smile.

Offering her a small smile in return, Aoha had tried not to grimace at the painful look on her face. He had thought what she was trying to do was smile. "Just relax a bit... I'm not gonna bite." He added more as a remark to comfort her. "I'll just sit over here... " Picking himself up, he moved a few feet away before planting his rump back on the ground. "There... that might help a bit..." He said more to himself than to her.

"Sooo... I'm Aoha... You said your name is Dianthe?" He said encouragingly, although now he kind of felt like he was talking to a two year old. When that thought passed his mind he sighed a bit and hung his head. This was going to be difficult... but for some reason he thought that she wanted conversation. She hadn't run away yet, fainted yes, but she hadn't physically removed herself from the area. And to be honest to himself... he wanted conversation too. Being alone all the time was... well... lonely.

Sighing in frustration at her utter lack of speech coordination, she looked at the lion. It must be horrible to have to listen to a stumbling speeched lioness. Perhaps it would be better if she just gave up and hid? Swallowing back the lump growing in her throat, she resolved to clear her mind and think of nothing else but how wonderful a real conversation would be, and how this might be her only chance at one.

"Y-yes.." That wasn't right, no stumbling! She chided herself. "I haven't ever...nobody has talked...with me before..."

Almost! That was much better than before, she had only stumbled a bit! The victory was enough to make her light headed and want to run around with joy. Face beaming, she watched the lion...Aoha, she reminded herself, for a reaction. Frankly, she was surprised he was still around, and not too annoyed by her to just take off.

Patiently waiting for a response, Aoha was almost leaning forward, encouraging her process. "That wasn't so bad..." He said somewhat enthusiastically. He didn't want to overwhelm her with too many questions, but at least he knew why she was having difficulties. His tail flicked back and forth once as he thought of another easy question for her to answer but he was coming up empty. Looking down for a moment he thought over a couple things before raising his gaze to hers once more.

Smiling softly he nodded. "So you have been alone since you were a cub... did you not have any siblings?" He didn't want to pry into her private life but for him to understand her situation a bit more he needed to at least know if she had been alone her whole life. Then again, as he asked the question he had wanted to take it back. Maybe she had some dark and scary past that had tormented her into silence. "Och, I'm rather rude... You really don't have to answer if you don't want too..." He said quickly after his question.

Frowning, she practiced her sentence in her mind before answering. "I...I really don't know....I waited where I was...but no one's ever come back..."

She thought about the past for a moment. Of how she had found herself near this very tree, alone and afraid. The grass nearby and the roots had kept her safe from the rain and dangers of which a young cub cannot handle. Many a time she had spent hungry days in the tree branches themselves, too afraid to move. Then, she had grown braver, explored further and further, but always coming back to her safety tree. Now, she spent most days there because it was familiar, and it made her feel comforted, almost as if she wasn't so gravely alone.

"I looked....but I don't...who would I look for?" She smiled away the pain of her long, arduous searches.
