@Despair:
Left-leaning and Right-leaning are benchmark terms for political affiliation, but can also refer to people's views of a certain topic (mostly political).
The Left, in American politics, refers to Democrats, or at least Democratic views, often referred to also as 'Liberal' views. These views tend to be more for Social Reform and increasing taxes in order to benefit those that need the most help financially. [Obviously, Democratic views are much more complicated then this, but it's still a decent brief synopsis]
The Right refers to Republicans, or 'Conservative' views which focus more on feeding big businesses with the hope of initializing the 'trickle down effect' where the economy is stimulated, and therefore the people as a whole benefit. they often wish to cut taxes in the hopes that it will stimulate businesses to create more jobs, etc...
So, a left-leaning or right-leaning , is basically a way of saying which party's ideas you agree with. And considering Republicans/Democrats can essentially fight on any topic, taking the completely opposite views in most cases, whether it be Abortion, foreign Policy, Energy, you name it... Any one person can be left-leaning or right-leaning on a wide variety of subjects.
For instance, I don't trust big businesses, I don't think that the trickle down effect works. Therefore, I would tend to argue more for social reforms which help people to improve their lives, meeting their basic needs while training them in skills, which they can use to get a job, etc... essentially equipping them to be successful. So in that way, I am Left-leaning.
On the other hand, I am Pro-life and consider all life sacred, even the life of the yet unborn. That makes me Right-leaning on the Abortion issue (generally).

-o-Havik-o- You can go a month without eating and up to two weeks without water if your not in the elements and keep your self from wasting energy. I think this is incorrect...
Rule of threes:
3 minutes without air, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food.
...I suppose these could be general benchmarks, but the Human body isn't THAT different between peoples that the basic needs such as stipulated above aren't required in the same measure.

Normally the same rule I use but most of the time this type of question is asked it about someone being stuck in the wild, not trapped in a garage just sitting there.
Screw that 3 min with out air I can't even do one. Granted I have asma but still. How have people not evolved to breath under water? I wanna be a fish man crying

Actually, I think those are accurate for all general purposes. Being out in the wild reduces those... since being in the elements consumes more energy and water then being stuck in a garage.

My only suggestion in this thread is to read Robert A. Heinlein books. I really enjoy the Government system and system of controversial thought in Starship Troopers. I generally suggest any of his books because they contain various Controversial topics and are quite interesting to read. Noted here is a break down of the system by which the right to vote and truly be a citizen are to some length explained.

Unrelinquished Despair Question, what is left leaning, and right leaning? Liberals are left leaning, and conservatives are right.

So, it's still possible to be right/left leaning even though I'm a socialist?

Unrelinquished Despair So, it's still possible to be right/left leaning even though I'm a socialist? Yes. Depending on your views of any one-particular topic... those views could be seen as left, or right leaning depending on what party it lines up with.
The fact that you may or may not be a socialist is irrelevant. However, if you are a socialist, you'll more likely to be left-leaning then right-leaning regarding many issues.

@Havik Ok, I can see that you aren't going to accept the justice system, so I'll just drop that topic. Mainly because that isn't why this thread was made. it was made to discuss political happenings, or to educate those on why something happens.
@ Cobra Wow, I knew you were smart, but I didn't know you were so well versed in the government.

TvIaMsOqTuHeYz @ Cobra Wow, I knew you were smart, but I didn't know you were so well versed in the government. Well versed? You can get that much just by listening to the radio for a couple hours. ~ Alright, current events... Let's see... Who shouldn't be the next president?! And why? I vote Obama, cause he loves to throw money at everything, and really isn't helping anything by doing it. Not to mention when countries that hate you and want to see you destroyed endorse a president, you know somethings wrong.

What Hinote says is true. Its really not that amazing that I know a few things about American Politics, especially considering that I am an American Citizen and have been a registered voter for about 10 years.
I actually dislike politics a good deal because I rely a lot on trust and I don't really feel like I can trust any candidate, because no matter what face they show you, you aren't getting the full view. There are too many politicians who 'play the game' and I hate 'the game'.
However, I do recognize the need for government and I appreciate the freedoms we have in this country and am very thankful for the systems that do work amidst the ones that don't. It's hard, because not everything can be perfect and not everyone is going to agree on everything. Being the President is easily the worst job in the world, because no matter what you do, someone, or large groups of people, or perhaps an entire party will despise you and disagree with everything you do and make your life a living hell. Just look at before and after pictures of Obama after only 3 YEARS and tell me you don't feel bad for the guy just a little bit.
Next President should be Donald Trump for sure. blaugh At least he'll understand how to run the country from a business perspective, which despite my disagreements with the trickle down effect... is kind of what we need.
