Source: User-Generated Content in Skyrim
— April 21, 2011
Bethesda's Todd Howard has confirmed that the studio is trying to find a way to let 360 and PS3 gamers install user-generated content with TESV: Skyrim. The only problem is finding a way to allow users to download the content. "It works on all the consoles," he said. "As far as the 360 and PS3, right now there's not an avenue for us to make that available, but we’d very much like to find a way. We have talked to Microsoft and Sony, and so there's a chance it might happen one day, [but] I don't see it happening for release."
Third-party mods have been a huge part of the Elder Scrolls series since Morrowind and have allowed PC players to add almost anything to their games. The leading TES mod site, TES Nexus currently features over 24,000 files, and there is every indication that Skyrim will continue the high level of input from the modding community.

Skyrim Mods Could Reach Consoles
User-generated content made with PC-only Creation Kit “works on all the consoles...we’d like to find a way.”
The fruits of the Creation Kit, the suite of modding tools for the PC version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, could reach consoles, developer Bethesda has said.
Speaking to us at last week’s preview event in Utah, executive producer Todd Howard explained that while the tools themselves will only ever be available on PC, user-generated content made with the Creation Kit also runs on the console versions of Skyrim.
“It works on all the consoles,” he said. “As far as the 360 and PS3, right now there’s not an avenue for us to make that available, but we’d very much like to find a way. We have talked to Microsoft and Sony, and so there's a chance it might happen one day, [but] I don't see it happening for release.
“We'd like to see it happen, because it works, it's how we made the game. I think it's something really cool about what we do, but 90 per cent of our audience is on the consoles, so 90 per cent of our audience can't even see this thing. So if we can solve that we'd like to.”
While modding has traditionally been the sole preserve of PC players, Bethesda’s intent to see user-generated content released on PS3 and 360 represents an increased blurring of the lines between consoles and PC. Valve has evidently been thinking along similar lines, introducing Steam support to the PS3 version of Portal 2 and supporting cross-platform chat and multiplayer across PS3, PC and Mac.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be released for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on November 11.

Yes but with a console I don't have to worry if my spec's are good enough to play the game.

Alas... I, too, am in dire need of new undergarments...
I REALLY hope they can pull this off.
Don't get me wrong. PC has always been more preferable, but if they can add in User Generated Content to Console versions... Oh, my... The possibilities. Or even at the very least a stand alone "Creator Toolkit" disc that you can access, and code your own items, then save it to your savefile.
That'd be sweet.

Well sure there's that, but im an avid inventor of meh own content. i still wouldnt be able to do that with just a console.

lanxx360 Lol. PC users have shat bricks.
PC gaming it seems is slowly dying, not a lot of people want to spends hundreds or even thousands of dollars to keep upgrading their machine in order to play then next best game to hit the market. If I could run TES on my computer I would have possibly gotten in for PC just so I could play with the construction set, and have access to all the nice mods.

I know this isn't really related to TES, but the only reason I'd upgrade my computer or get a better one is in preperation for Star Wars: The Old Republic being made by BioWare. Alot of people for the PCs are more interested these days in the MMO's then mass moding....or is it the other way around? I can never remember that.

I've been following the development of Star Wars TOR and from the looks at least graphic's wish it doesn't look like it would tax your system like many of the PC games that come out do: like TES, Crysis and Star Craft II.
