Some people use certain objects and places to help them focus and meditate.

For example: This is why there are so many statues of Buddha out there in the world. Buddha is used by Buddhists, Zen practioners and some spiritualists as a point of focus, a representation of what we could all acheive through meditation. I even have a Buddha statue in my meditation area because I have always held a deep respect for him and consider him to be a great prophet. He has reached a level of knowledge through meditation that most can only dream about and many Buddhists hope to achieve. Although, I have my Buddha statue surrounded by nature elements.
Even though that is my point of focus, I think I meditate best while near water.

To get to the point with all this, I raise the question do you have favorite areas or points of focus to help you meditate? Care to share for those in here that do not but could use the extra help?

There are also guided meditation CDs out there but I have never tried one so I don't know how well they help. I have doen guided deep relaxation which was fantastic.

I have a couples places I like use, and my fiance would agree with me on these. My tree in boiling springs is a good place because of the water. The ocean is another sacred place for meditation. Oh, and for some reason, I love the sound of frogs specifically spring peepers, so going onto my balcony I can hear them.' Now a focal point. I like to use natural objects like feathers from a crow or the various feathers of our local red tail hawk, sand ( I love to run my hands through it as I focus) and sea shells.

You were always a major beach person. I'm more of a lake person or even a pond. I wish I had a nice pond with a willow tree that I could meditate under that was private enough that I knew I wouldn't be bothered.
Although I think the frog sound would bother me while meditating, it can be nice sometimes though.

Another point that someone else brought up was chanting, chanting is a great way to focus and help with meditation.

Depending on the person tibetan bells work well. Very chaotic like drumming. But drumming works well. The steady beat can take you to a pretty deep level.

Very much a beach person and I'm glad I have someone that has such a deep passion for the sea also.

It all depends on the lake or pond.

Any lake works for me. After living at the beach for so long and going on vacation to the beach every year, it has lost any interest I once had in it. I want to start taking my vacations in the Poconos. Rent a cabin out in the woods, that would be a great meditation setting for me. But for now I just have to have my room decorated like it's in the woods, lots of plants, the sky painted on the ceiling. It works for now.

That is very cool! I keep wanting to go but everytime I plan it out I think to myself my normal vacation is so much cheaper. But of course if I go to the Poconos I want to take the horseback riding tour.

My focus changes depending on my destination. As to getting into a meditated state or trance, most of the time I use my own heart beat otherwise I use shaman drumming on CDs. My focal points can be by a stream in the woods, a cliff overlooking the sea, a tree in a large meadow, and so on. I, even use a cave hidden behind a waterfall. There are many gateways and paths. It depends on what I need to accomplish as to which gateway and path I choose.

I really need to start doing this again. It's been so long. I know I probably need it more now than ever.
