Meditation...a training exercise of clearing ones mind, hieghtening their awareness, and strengthening their focus. To literally reflect on and contemplate.
What is it to you? Have you practiced it? What are your methods to achieving a good meditation or ascending to a higher state of being through concentration? Do you use breathing exercises? Does it relieve stress?
For me, I am trying to learn new and different methods to meditation. I have usually done it before I sleep, in a modified lotus position, with palms facing up wards, one hand over the other with fingers straight and the thumbs just nearly touching. I close my eye and focus on myself as a single entity, an orb of blue white light. I use this to fall into that state and ground my energies. I then start to feel the energy course through my body and then I feel a jolt in some cases, a static electrical jolt happen between my thumbs as if the energies are jumping from one thumb to the other.
Now this is what I do but I have been seeking different methods as well as ideas to modify my environment. I have recently bought a set of candles from a local enlightening book store. One is white (called Spirit) and the other two are blue (called Ascended Masters) and I chose them according to color and their sweet fresh smell. I see myself most intune with air and water elements so I thought what better colors would it be to choose then blue and white. I also had the molocule of water in mind, white to represent the Oxygen and blues to represent the two Hydrogen atoms. I wonder what I can do and if I should do this on my room since my window opens up to my roof from my room. I usually meditate during the night but ocassionally do it when I wake up if I have the time to clam my body and clear my mind for the day ahead. It does me a lot of good, when do you meditate?

I love to meditate, I couldn't do it while I was at school. Becuase I had difficulities in clearing my mind..
I usally do it before I go to sleep, but I like to lie in bed..
I some times go to a rain forest. With a water fall.... Sometimes I like to listen to music (Of Enya or rainforest music.)
(I don't think you should use the candles at night, there is a possibility, you might drift into sleep or something else..)

Interesting precaution. You are right, I could end up burning my house down if I'm not too careful, but trust me, in the state I throw myself in, I am never asleep. I swear my mind must be wired on edorphines when I feel the excitement of my energies flowing through me. However, you are right in saying that there is danger in using candles, but I will promise to take extra measures of saftey when using them, if I use them.
Has anyone else meditated before and have candles helped with your focus or channeling of energy if you've used them in your practices before?
I also want to bring up the subject of meditating in a group. When I mentioned meditation at the bookstore I bought these candles from, they said that there was a meditation ceremony going on in the basement of the store and that I should try it out sometime. Has anyone else meditated with someone else before and if so, is it distracting or rewarding?

I don't have much time to meditate especially from Monday to Friday, I find it difficult to clear my mind at times but I manage.

Meditation does not have to be in a modified lotus position. It can be any position that is comfortable enough to hold for a long period of time. Try these:
1)Grasshopper- Lay flat on the floor on your back, palms facing upwards, legs bent at the knee intoa 90* angle. 2) Crescent Moon- ay in a crescent shape wherever you meditate with the arm beneath you stretching out in the upper curve of the moon, the arm ontop of your body laying flat with the palm facing upwards. 3)Ho- Lay flat on your stomach with your head on a pillow; eyes closed hands slightly above the floor with the palms facing outwards.
When meditating, it is quite relaxing to burn scented candles or incense that smells sweet or sensuous (NOT a bad term in this case; means appealing to the senses).
I meditate about once a week. Generally on Fridays.

Grasshopper I seem to understand...but Crescent Moon and Ho seem a bit confusing. Can you explain? A picture would help more, but google has failed me. crying

Crescent moon is exactly how it sounds. Make your body into a crescent moon, the arm below you curved into the upper half, your legs, the lower half. Do whatever you want with your other arm.
Ho is the japanese word for fire, so it may feel a little funny when you try:
Step1) lay flat on the floor with a pillow under your head Step2) with your palms facing upwards, lift your arms off the floor a few inches. Step3) Light incense and hold position until all trouble fades away and you feel at peace.
If you need anymore tips, message me.

Meditation helps me get in touch with whats really important again when I had drifted away. It usually helps me if I'm feeling depressed. Also it helps me get in touch with my inner soul and the voices of the world around me and sometimes visions though tehy usually come in teh shape of voices and undefined color and figures. but unfortunitly I don't have much time to meditate. ((school! gonk )) I find I meditate better outside on warm sunny days.

I think meditation is almost essential to your practice. Its many effects are quite beneficial. I don't have enough time to meditate anymore though. I know that if you are really dedicated then you should make time, but with all I've got on my plate right now it's hard for me to find time to eat sometimes. There just aren't enough hours in the day razz
I like using guided meditations because I find they give me some kind of direction. Sometimes I just can't sit down and clear my thoughts enough, and I find that using a CD really helps.
