An unoffical WoW server run by players and not Blizzard. I play on one currently. And, no, despite what many people say: a) they are not against the law if the person running it is not making money off the server b) they don't all allow you to cheat and get rare items like that or go to level 80 in five minutes.
Honestly the private server I play on is almost exactly like the official ones except for a coding bug here and there and there are very few people who play on it (less than twenty). There are advantages and disadvantages to it. It's great for me personally. whee

i saw smoe video of a blood elf dancing in ironforge and only one guard went after him, but the rest just passed by him, and people were accusing the person who uploaded the video of him being on a private server.

It really depends on how the server is set up and who runs it. Honestly I don't get why a lot of people are so nasty about private servers some days except I have heard horror stories from some private servers but I know the person who runs this server and have been playing on it on and off for the past four years.

and horror stories? D: what kind of stories? you got me curious.

and horror stories? D: what kind of stories? you got me curious.Well, like I said some people set their server to you start out in the latest tier/gladiator gear and hit one thing and go straight to level 80. It's stories like that that tend to give them a bad name. Also the fact that the people playing on private servers don't have to pay the monthly bliz fee gets people a little grouchy. Also some people don't like the custom spells and stuff (though we only use non player access spells and things like that for strictly story events since as I said we make our own custom server events for our players). Currently the only thing I really have to whine about about my server is with cata we're going to have to recode everything again though the person who runs my server at my request is going to try and run 3.3.5/4-whateverthey'reonwhenweupdate so we have the old world and the new world.
