Okay, here's the situation.
I'm in a small, Class D band. Next year, we will only have two baritones. We have tons of trumpets and flutes though. Eighteen or something similiar for both, I think? I play flute, oboe, and trumpet. I just picked up trumpet this year for jazz band so I know the fingerings and etc.
My band director and I were talking about the low brass section and he offered for me to learn baritone since I can already do trumpet. He told me he would teach me the pitches and everything but he wants to see if I can do it tomorrow morning. I would like to take the oppurtunity so, if I'm okay and he agrees to it, I think I might do it.

What are some tips, hints, something? I need to know more about the instrument though.
Thanks. :3

There is much to it, you may have to work on breathing but not much and you should get your low range really solid and the rest of your range should fall into place. Thant really all I have for you, good luck!

Baritone and/or Euphonium can be sooo much fun!

Learn bass clef. Your director will love you for it. And the fingerings for bass clef are in C, not Bb, just be aware. Also, ask your band director about different breathing techniques and so forth if you're concerned about that. If you played flute, you shouldn't have a problem with it, though. Baritone is a whole lot easier to play than Trumpet - since I switched from Trumpet, I can relate.

I loved low brass so much that I've stuck with it ever since biggrin five and a half years and counting.

I wish I knew about this website when I first started playing. Super helpful advice from a professional!

Well im changing to euphonium its like trumpet because it only has three keys but if you are good with low notes on trumpet then you will be good on it. if you have a good tone on trumpet all u need is a looser embochure. pm back if u get to read this. i am a fellow trumpet player!
