"Come on, man, we're almost there." Max said as the school came into view. "Just a little bit farther, alright? Don't let a cripple outrun you!" He tried to keep himself focused on the goal of getting to the school, lest his mind drift to less pleasant thoughts, like what could be waiting for them inside. Surely they would have traps set up as soon as they got inside, right? Surely they would at least let them get into some kind of fighting condition before trying to kill them again. Surely they would try to keep things interesting, right?

Kiyoshi nodded. There were only a few more steps. Just a few more feet.
Finally.
He nearly collapsed once he entered the building. The blood loss and the lack of sleep was making him dizzy but he had to stay awake. There was no way he'd have Max take care of him in their condition.
The inside of the building was dark....too dark... but by now his eyes were used to that. He felt along the walls for a light switch, checking his device to make sure there was no one in here with them
His pressed a switch with his hands causing the lights to flicker on, a ghostly fluorescent. At least now they could see...

Max stopped as the handle of his scythe thumped loudly on the floor of the school, sending echoes down the halls. He got ready to swing it as Kiyoshi went for the light switch, balancing precariously on his good foot, hoping they wouldn't have to run. He blinked twice as the light flickered on, his grip tightening on the scythe as light filled the hallways to reveal what the darkness hid.
The hall were empty save for a few dusty desks and lockers. Nothing seemed alive, nothing seemed evil. For the time being, they appeared to be safe.
