i would say hes the cross between a lion and a wolf as he seems to have traits of both animals. for example at times he is seen to roar like a lion and howl like a wolve, also his over all body shape is very wolf like but his main and his tail are very much like a lions.
but realy we should just stick to his description "i am what you see"

Something else occured to me: bear with me here:: A hyena.
Hyenas look canine, but they're actually closer to feline in reality. They sort of slouch like Red, and the 'mane' is unmistakable. Anyone else think so?

he is definitely some type of wolf. If you notice He does howl at one point in the game
