So I read the 5 Min. Intro. However, now that I've read it, I think I just got more confused. sweatdrop I mean, being in this guild is giving me some crazy emotions towards Buddhism. There are so many discipline's and there are so many things I never learned in class about Buddhism that I really want to learn about but I'm not sure if I get it. I mean, I can't just say "I'm Buddhist" when I know barely nothing about the religion. stressed

So then I decided to check out Buddhanet and again got a little confused with all the lists and everything being sort of thrown at me. confused

If someone could really help me get to know this religion, and just help me through it, I would be so happy. It's a little different than Christianity, which is what I've been since I was born, so yeah....

The introduction is rather generic and applies to all of the dfferent disciplines.

I'm still pressed for time, so I'll try to reply a little later on this evening.

If you ask a specific question you might have a better chance of getting an explanation.

Hmm, well that's the tough part because I don't really know what to ask. gonk Not to mention I fear of sounding stupid.

How about, I dunno, you ask a pointed yet generic question along the lines of "what is the Buddhist position on (blank)" or, even better, ask about what confuses you.

Otherwise we can't explicate s**t.

Helpful questions might be:

"What're the basics of Buddhism?"

"What are the different sects and what are their basics?"

"Why are there different sects?"

"Do you have to be a specific sect, or can you be a generic kind?"

When you have the answers to those questions, you could then ask yourself, "Which sect works most for me, and why? Why not?"

Then, you might ask, "What are some good plain-spoken and yet in-depth books and websites on Buddhism, since I don't understand X and Y?"

Yes, be more specific could help.
If you have any questions you would like to ask me you could PM me and if I don't know the answers I will galdly try to search for them.

I actaully like buddhanet it is a great site and well put together. Unlike some buddhist sites I have been to.
