Chapter One
The humans in the Odralden kingdom had thought of a plan to attack the dragons at night; the cave they lived in was not far away. So they got their best knights and fighters in the land and set forth to the cave of the dragons. But before they set out, the guard stopped them at the gates, and told them “Halt, you are not to leave the castle until the dragons stop paroling the area.”
“We are the finest fighters in the land; we do not fear the foul beasts.” The knight said proudly, and proceeded towards the gate with his followers.
The guards stopped them once more.
“This is precisely why you can’t leave; we need you to aid the king’s guard in the fight if they come and attack the castle.” Just after the guard spoke, a huge column of fire shot through the gates killing the guardsmen instantly. The knights charged to fight the dragons, but froze as the smoke cleared, revealing the massive dragon that had come through the gates. He spoke with a thunderous voice:
“We know of your plot against us, and we have come to stop it.”
As he spoke he raised his massive foot and clawed the first rank of the knights, killing most of them, and greatly injuring the rest.
The knights charged forward, and swung their swords, striking the dragon multiple times, dealing very little damage. As they continued the battle, it caused a great disturbance as the towns folk ran in every direction at once, alarming the king of the matter at hand. The battle lasted for a great length of time, until the king arrived to the battle, it stopped almost immediately; even the dragon dropped the knight he had in his mouth. The king spoke to all of them.
“This is no way to start the day of my daughter’s birthday; you should be ashamed of yourselves!”
“But, we were only trying to defend the kingdom from the fowl dragons.” said the knight.
As the knight finished speaking, the dragon walked up to the king and told him.
“Your knights were planning to attack us when we were sleeping; they were planning to kill all of us.”
“The people responsible for these actions shall be punished for their actions, but you must not break down the gates to my city again, if you are to remain allied to the kingdom.” The king replied.
“I understand.” Then with that the dragon flew off back to his cave. The king turned towards the knights, and told them “You shall be dealt with later.”
Chapter Two
Later that night, the king held a grand ball for his daughter’s birthday. It was a massive gathering of all the people in the land. Before everyone started talking, and dancing the king announced “I would like to thank all of you for coming, and making this such a good time.”
As he finished speaking, Princess Vivian started walking down the stairs, in her beautiful dress. Emworo, a dragon, heard of this ball and flew to the city. He landed where no one can see him. He then turned in to a human.
“Hopefully this will last long enough to enjoy the party.” He muttered to himself.
Emworo arrived at the ball, and saw Princess Vivian. She was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He walked through the crowd of people to her. He tripped just before he was going to speak to her. She laughed, and helps him get up.
“Is this the first time you’ve danced?” She asks sarcastically.
“Yes.” Emworo answered. “But, it is not the first time I fell.”
They both started laughing. Then she asked him:
“Would you like me to teach you how to dance?”
“Yes I would.” He looked a bit clumsy but he didn’t care; he was being taught by the most beautiful person he has seen to dance. Then Vivian asked him.
“Where are you from?”
“I am from a distant land, and I am going to see the world.” Emworo answered. “I have seen nothing more beautiful then you.”
After he said that, he realized that his transformation time was all most up.
“Farwell, as I must go” He said.
Before he left, Vivian kissed him.
“What is your name, and will I ever see you again?” She asked.
“My name is Emworo, and as of now I do not know.” He replied.
Chapter Three
A week after the ball, the prince of Avir, Airion, had arrived in the Odralden kingdom. He arrived with a squire, who proceeded to the town square, and announced the arrival of Prince Airion. The king of Odralden came to greet them.
“Welcome to my kingdom. I have been expecting your arrival.” He said.
“Yes, and I hope you will hold to your end of the bargain.” The prince said without paying attention to anything except the castle, where his bride-to-be awaited.
“Yes, yes. I’ll show you to her.”
He led the way back to his castle, hoping there was some other way to stop the war of their two nations. When they arrived, Princess Vivian was waiting outside, and greeted her father. Prince Airion dismounted his horse and approached the princess. “Hello my dear, are you ready for our wedding?” He asked, ready to go at the drop of a pin.
“I don’t think I will go with you, if this is how you treat me.” She said, as Emworo arrived to the meeting.
“What’s everyone talking about?” Emworo said.
“I see what’s going on here: you’re in love with this common villager.” Airion said towards Emworo, in a discussed tone.
“Yes, I am in love with him, now leave or I’ll call the guards on you.”
“You will be sorry that you denied me and the peace treaty” Airion said, and got on his horse, then rode off towards his kingdom. Everyone then looked at Emworo.
“Who are you?” asked the king.
“I am Emworo, and I have come here to see Princess Vivian.” Emworo replied.
“Well that was nice, but why did Airion leave so suddenly when you came?”
“I don’t know, maybe it’s what Princess Vivian said.”
“Most likely, but you said you wanted to see me.”
“Yes, I wanted to ask you to dinner.”
“That would be lovely, it’s a date.”
Chapter Four
At dinner Emworo and Vivian enjoyed a good dinner as a messenger came towards them.
“Princess, we have received word that a dragon spy is somewhere in this city. You may need an escort now.”
“Well, my father will probably want to see me, goodbye Emworo.” She stands up, and starts leave with the messenger then Emworo stands and said.
“Wait, may I walk you home my lady?”
“I don’t see why not.” They all go back to the castle, the messenger goes inside first.
“Well, I hope you had a good dinner but we must part ways.” Emworo starts walking away, when he begins to change back in to a dragon. His skin gets covered in scales, his wings begin to return, and he begins to grow.
“Y-y-you are a dragon!?” yells Vivian.
“Yes. Yes, I am, but I am no spy.” He replied.
“You didn’t bother to tell me you’re a dragon?”
“Wait, you’re not going to tell the guard that I’m here?”
“No, I know that you’re a good person, err… um… dragon.”
“Well, in that case, you wouldn’t mind coming to my cave, would you?”
“Not at all. Would you mind giving me a lift?”
“Hop on and we’ll be off.”
Chapter Five
The couple flew to the cave to see the captain of the guard, and his men fighting the dragons outside the cave.
“I should help the elders fight, I will drop you off some were safe.” Emworo said.
Emworo landed in a well-hidden part of the mountains, droped off the princess, and then flew over to the fight. When he arrived, he sees that the battle is already over and the leader of the dragons, Eruaran, has died. One of the dragons next to him yells.
“Those humans will die for attacking us for no reason!”
Emworo sees the guard captain, and in a furry of rage, breaths a column of fire at him finishing him off.
Then, he goes back to the princess, knowing that he can’t see her again with the events that just took place.
“I am truly sorry… I can’t see you again without making everyone try to kill me.”
“Do not worry; I am sure we will see each other again.”
“You don’t understand I killed Sirath, the guard captain.”
She got on Emworo, and he flew her back to the castle. The king was waiting outside, and saw her riding a dragon.
“You have a lot of explaining to do young lady.”
She hoped off Emworo, and then explained what has happened.
“If what you say is true, then we have bigger problems than just the Avir kingdom. As for you Emworo, you are not to see my daughter again.”
“As you wish your highness.” He answered, and then he flew back to the cave.
“I think you are being too hard on him.” Said Princess Vivian, before entering the castle.
Chapter Six
The next day, a messenger arrived with the word that Prince Airion will come for one last chance at peace.
“Why is he so persistent? I rejected him once what makes him think I will take him now?” Asked Princess Vivian, who was just coming to the throne room from her sleeping quarters.
“Well this time you don’t get to choose, you will marry him, and I will hear no arguments this time.” The king said.
“But…”
“No, you can’t talk me out of this one.”
“I understand… when is he coming?”
“He will arrive next week.”
The night before the arrival of Prince Airion, Emworo flew to the princess’s window, waking her up.
“Princess.” He whispered
“Yes, what is it?” She answers, as she walks to her window to find Emworo waiting for her. “Emworo! Have you come to take me away?” she asked excitedly.
“Yes, I have. And I also heard the news of the Prince Airion’s arrival, and of your predicament. But before we go I wanted to ask if you would like to…” He hands her a beautiful diamond ring “Marry me?”
“Yes.” She answers, as she puts on the ring. Princess Vivian then climbed out the window, onto Emworo and he flew her to the cave. In the morning, when the prince arrived, both he and the king went to the Princess’s room, to find her gone.
“I will give you one day to find her or the treaty will be canceled, and war will break out.” Said Prince Airion, angrily towards the king.
“I will try to find her, but I have no guarantee that we will.”
The guard searched the city for her, to no avail. When Prince Airion heard the news, he left to his own kingdom, to prepare the army for battle. The king of Odralden prepared his solders for the battle ahead. The army of Avir arrived in greater numbers than first predicted. The two armies attacked each other ferociously. Thanks to the castle, the Odralden army survived long enough to create a stale mate. That is, until the dragons and battering rams arrived. The Avir battering rams reached the gates, and nearly pounded them open, until massive columns of fire rained from the sky, burning them all to ash. The Odralden guard looked up to see dragons, and lots of them, helping them fight off the invading forces.
Emworo found the Avir prince, Airion, and dove straight at him.
“Today you shall fall!” shouted Emworo, as he knocked Airion off his horse, with his massive claws. Airion scrambled to get up, and grab his sword.
“No dragon, it is you who will be slain today.” He swung his sword, landing a blow to Emworo’s neck inflicting a deep wound. Emworo roared as he smacked Airion’s side, making him fly in to the ground. Emworo tried to step on him, but he rolled out of the way and got up. Airion then stabbed Emworo’s leg: it left a very nasty wound as he twisted his blade, and pulled it out. Emworo roared in pain then smacked Airion in the head knocking him to the ground once more. Before he could finish him off, a volley of arrows hit him in the back. He torched the archers, with his fire breath; taking advantage of the situation, Airion stabbed Emworo in the gut. “Time to die dragon.” Airion said, before he stabbed at Emworo once more.
“You have so got to die.” Said a female, voice as she thrust her sword threw his heart. Emworo barely alive, turned to see Princess Vivian pull her sword out of Airion.
“I thought I left you at the cave.”
“You should know me better, I rode one of your friends hear. You’re hurt badly; you need to get some healing.”
“It’s too late… I am all ready going to die… no healer can help me now.”
“Don’t say that, I need you.”
“I… can’t stay with you forever.”
“But, it didn’t have to end this way.”
“It was my fate to end this way, this is our final goodbye.” As he said those final words, he fell limp on the ground. After the Avir forces left, broken and defeated, Princess Vivian went back to her room in the castle, and cried for the loss of her husband.
“There is no need to cry. It was his time to go.” Said a voice outside her window.
“Who’s there, and how can you say such a thing?” said the princess as she approached the window.
“My name is not important, as for how I can say that is he is not truly dead. For you see, you carry his child, and his memory will live on with you.” With that said, whoever, or whatever, said that left and never came back.
The king walked in the door.
“Who were you talking to?”
And with a smile on Vivian’s face she answered:
“Oh it’s no one, just no one.”
