Nikolai smiled lightly at Anya when she asked what he wanted. This wasn't his usual manic smile, but a more calm, kind smile. He smiled for a moment longer then said, "You didn't look like you were sleeping very well, so I woke you up. Oh and I bought breakfast for the both of us. I had to guess as far as what you liked, but I think I did a decent job of choosing." Nikolai moved away and sat down on his cot on his side of the table. he smiled at Anya again and gestured to the food on her side of the table. Their meals were essentially the same, except Nikolai had coated his pancakes in butter and syrup, he left it up to Anya to coat her own pancakes. Nikolai cut a piece of his pancakes off and took a bite, he hummed lightly and said, "Delicious! I should take the train more often. This stuff should brighten your mood a bit." Nikolai smiled again, he was eager to patch things up with Anya, considering she already thought he was an idiot. He didn't want to make his traveling companion angry so he did what he thought he could to show her he meant well. He looked at Anya seriously for just a moment and said, "I won't ask what your dream was about, I can tell it wasn't pleasant. All I can say is that having some good food in your system tends to help sometimes." Nikolai smiled again and took a bite of his bacon, it was cooked to perfection and Nikolai reminded himself to give his compliments to the chef.

Anya frowned slightly when she heard Nikolai's reasoning for waking her up. Hopefully, she hadn't been crying in her sleep or anything embarrassing like that. The last thing she needed was Nikolai to be a pity party to her life story.

Anya sat up as Nikolai moved to sit on his cot to began eating the rather lavish breakfast he had just said he'd bought for the two of them. Swinging her legs over the edge of the cot to sit up, Anya's gaze passed over the trays of pancakes, bacon, eggs, toast, juice, coffee, and other things. Though as soon as she looked at food, she regretted it. After her dreams she usually didn't eat much. But this time, just looking at all that food, make her stomach do a back flip. The coffee she had drank before getting on the train almost making a return trip up her digestive tract.

"Thanks but no thanks." Anya replied flatly as she looked away from Nikolai and the almost literal mountain of breakfast food. She definitely wasn't hungry right now, even if pancakes were her favorite breakfast meal.

Nikolai frowned when Anya declined his offer, he took another bite of his food and said, "Well, suit yourself. I suppose I could check and see if your opposite is hungry at all. But trust me, you really will want to eat something, it'll calm you down or some stuff like that. I'm not a doctor, but I hear that having a good breakfast can help someone have a better day." Nikolai smiled and took another bite out of his exceedingly large breakfast. He didn't want to push Anya if she didn't want anything to do with what he was offering. Nikolai giggled once and a shadowy crow flew out from his sleeve and settled on the table next to Anya's plate of bacon. It picked up a piece of her bacon and flapped back over to Nikolai's side. Nikolai looked at it sternly and said, "Now now, leave some food for her. It doesn't matter if she said she didn't want any, it's her food. You'll be able to have some of mine in a bit. Yes, Niki, I do want you to give it back." The crow flapped back to Anya's plate and dropped the bacon down on the plate. It hopped back to Nikolai and settled on his shoulder, looking at the food in front of it with what seemed to be hunger. He looked up at Anya and said, "Don't mind Niki, she's not technically alive. She's just a shadow familiar." Nikolai smiled and took another bite of his food.

There Nik went again: mentioning her 'opposite'. What in the world did he mean by that? But before Anya could even open her mouth to ask that question, she heard him giggle. Turning her gaze back over to Nikolai, Anya watched as a shadowy crow emerged from his sleeve and landed next to her plate of bacon. The crow then picked up a piece in its beak before flying back over to Nikolai and settling on his shoulder. Anya frowned ever so slightly. That was her food after all and a crow had just stolen it. Fortunately, Nikolai soon scolded the crow and the bird returned the bacon strip to Anya's plate. Anya wasn't quite sure she wanted that particular piece of bacon anymore now that some crow made out of who knew what kind of shadow was carrying it in its mouth. She picked it up and tossed it back in the crow's direction. "It's okay. Niki can have it. She's already touched it anyway." Anya felt a little strange calling a shadow bird a female, let alone an actual name, but she wasn't about to ask why the crow even had a name in the first place.

Anya sighed once briefly before moving to the other end of her cot to sit on her side of the little table. She stared down at her food for a couple of minutes. Even though she had felt sick to her stomach not that long ago, Anya couldn't help but begin to feel hungry. Not only because the food was right there in front of her, but also because she felt a little guilty that Nikolai had gone through the trouble of getting her the food in the first place and she wasn't eating it right away. "Fine... I'll eat something..." Anya finally said. Hesitantly, Anya picked up her fork and knife and began cutting into her stack of pancakes. She cut herself a small bite and ate it just to test her stomach to make she wasn't actually going to throw up. It certainly wouldn't do for her to throw up right after eating, especially in front of someone she didn't know all that well.

Fortunately for Anya, she found the the taste of the pancakes to be quite delicious. She paused for a moment, blinking in surprise as she hadn't expected the food served on a train to be so good. But after a moment, she reached for the syrup and poured it on her stack of pancakes. That one simple taste brought her hunger back now.

Nikolai smiled at Anya as she gave Niki her piece of bacon. Niki may have been a shadow, and a crow, but at least some people didn't treat her as just an object. Niki extended her wings and made a bowing motion, it was her way of saying thanks to Anya. As Niki pecked at the piece of bacon, which Nikolai had cut into smaller pieces for the bird, Nikolai smiled at Anya, who had finally decided to eat something. He took a bite of his own food and said, cheerfully, "It's good, right? I didn't expect it either. So tell me Anya... If you don't mind me asking that is, what's your ability? I know you're an owl like myself but I can't tell what your power is." Nikolai smiled and took a bite of his food, it was up to Anya whether or not she told him, but he thought it would make a decent conversation. Niki had finished the piece of bacon rather quickly, and she looked up at Anya, flapped her wings and took flight. She silently landed on Anya's shoulder and rubbed up against her cheek, her feathers smooth as porcelain but slightly warm, not unlike a living human's normal body temperature. Nikolai smiled and said, "It seems Niki likes you, she generally only takes to opposites that well... interesting."

Anya was busy eating when Niki gave her a sort of formal bow. But the motion caught her gaze, and she looked up, a forkful of pancake in her mouth. "You're... welcome...?" she replied, not sure if she should talk to the shadow crow or not. It was just weird that the crow was so... human like. She shook her head and blinked to clear her head before going back to eating. She swallowed the food she had been chewing was swallowed just as Nikolai asked her about her ability. The Poison Owl looked up at Nikolai with a slight frown, considering whether she wanted to answer his question or not. After a minute or two, Anya finally gave an answer. "You really wanna know, huh? Well, I guess it's only fair since I already know what yours is..." Anya said before giving a curt sigh. She hated describing her ability to people. But if Nikolai was willing to listen to the explanation without freaking out or whatever, then she might as well just get it over with. "Well, you like the food you're eating now? I could just as easily poison it and have you not taste a thing. Or I could I could simply hold my hand in front of your face and you'd feel sick to your stomach. Things like that. That's my ability." With that, Anya looked back down at her food. Expecting her description to just freak Nikolai out or something.

Nikolai smiled peacefully as Anya described her power to him. Her way of explaining was dancing around the actual point, but he got it. Smiling lightly, he replied, "So you control... poisons? Very cool." Nikolai was unfazed by her fake threat and he took another bite of his food, he didn't think she would do such a thing, but there was always the chance that he could have been wrong. He didn't really care either way. He smiled and said, lightly, "You know, if you don't want to tell me specific things, or if anything I say bothers you, just tell me and I'll back off of that topic." Nikolai smiled and took a final bite of his eggs and smiled at Anya again, before he realized he had been using a term that he was familiar with, but Anya wouldn't. He sighed and chuckled a bit before saying, "I bet you're wondering what all this 'opposite' business is, well, if you like, I can tell you. But It can be kind of complicated, and even I don't understand it fully. I'll be happy to try i you want me to though." The explanation would be a bit difficult but he was confident in his ability to explain it as well as Anya's ability to understand it.

Anya tried to keep a straight face as Nikolai said her ability was... cool. No one had said her powers were cool at all. She kept quiet so that she wouldn't express her surprise too much. Instead all she did was nod to let Nikolai know that she had heard him when he said she could refuse to answer if she didn't like something he said. "Fine." Anya replied before taking another bite of her food. It was then that Nikolai changed the topic, which Anya was grateful for. Instead now he mentioned that 'opposites' thing again. "Oh yeah. I'd meaning to ask you what the heck you were talking about." she said, looking up at him. She picked up a glass of orange juice and took a drink to clear her throat so she could speak clearly. "So an explanation of that concept would be great."

Nikolai smiled and launched full speed into an explanation of the shadow world, and how opposites were essentially the same as their light world counterparts. After a while of explaining, and a bit more food in both of their systems, Nikolai finally winded down his explanation, "So essentially, they're mirror worlds of each other, the people in one will reach the same conclusion as their opposite, maybe for different reasons and such, but all in all, it's like looking in a mirror with the lights off. Just one thing though, if the opposite dies, normally the light counterpart will too, not necessarily in the same way, but for various reasons. There's only one exception to that rule." Nikolai paused and took a sip of his drink and a bite of his remaining food before continuing, "The exception to that rule, is me. My opposite died, but I lived. Not sure how or why, but I've never been one to question good fortune until after the fact. It's why I can freely move between both worlds I think. It's not easy to classify something you don't fully understand. But whatever, I am a walking, talking, giggling, paradox, and I enjoy being such a thing. So, any questions?" Nikolai smiled at Anya, he hoped he had done a decent job of explaining what everything was. He touched on the fact that Owls like himself and Anya had more color to them in the dark world, while normal people were very gray and bleak. he explained that he wasn't sure whether this was created by and Owl, or that it had come into existence at the same time as the light world, all Nikolai knew was that it was a much more cozy place to him. He even offered Anya a chance to go to the shadow world, so she could see for herself, he hadn't expected an answer right away, and she hadn't given one. All in all, Nikolai was pleased with the way his morning turned out.

Anya didn't say anything during Nikolai's entire explanation. She simply sat and continued eating, occasionally looking up to look at Nikolai with a questioning look. However, she was saving any questions she may come up with during the explanation for the end of the lecture. But by the end, Anya found that she hadn't come up with many questions. Just one or two, as she could pretty much understand Nik's shadow realm logic. She paused before saying anything when Nikolai finished, going into thought for a moment or two. "Maybe when you didn't die after your opposite, you got your powers as a sort of... 'balancer' for the death of your opposite?" Anya finally said aloud her thought right before taking a bite of the last piece of bacon on her plate. She chewed as she mulled over her theory. Anya then shrugged. "But what do I know? It's just speculation..."
