This may or may not happen in the far future, but going to suggest anyway.
This is a variant of a suggestion I saw once, which could happen if the buddies can interact with the enemies(ie. be attacked). It is that when you unsummon a buddy, there will be a cooldown penalty for every level of damage dealt on them. When the buddies are dazed, the cooldown would of course be longest.

I just thought of this to have more interaction around buddies, and to not just rely on maybe few buddies. They'd be needed to recalled eventually, and we are unsure if our healing rings would even work on them so the cooldown may be inevitable.

Opinions?

You know, this one has some potential to it. [ JK ] talked a bit about having Buddies function on G'hi, at the last meet - and I could see this as an extension of that.

Essentially, Buddies would run on their own individual G'hi - their abilities would 'spend' G'hi, taking damage (if they can) would cost them G'hi, and when their G'hi is all spent, they unsummon. You wouldn't be able to summon them again until their G'hi filled up (either naturally, over time, or the same way as ours - by visiting Barton, and the like). This would allow you to give Buddies lots of different abilities, as they could all have different G'hi costs - cheap abilities would last longer, whereas stronger abilities would 'burn out' more quickly...

He only brought it up briefly - I'm not sure if it was a new idea (he segway'd from talking about G'hi bonuses), or something he'd been considering for a while. All he asked, though, is what we thought about Buddies using G'hi. He likes being vague... whee

@Kutai

That's actually a quite common summon mechanic in RPG's, where the differentiation comes from what you spend to summon them. I usually call those "bloodloss" because when they attack, they litterally make themselves closer to dying.

It'd also give people a reason to not use the buddy as a mere meat shield, as they wouldn't last long that way, and you'd lose whatever passive bonus they granted.

Did I mention I like this mechanic? Usually, I look at these and think "Strong blows win until proven otherwise" because, well, with each attack sustained, the summon can attack less times, so it's more likely to be more efficient to trash the foes away than let them attack you first. But with the passive bonus there... Wow! Complexity in simplicity, it's what I like.
