Reglare Excile
1. You get to be stuck in Animated corals.
2. They will sip your life out of you and grow, and even grow still when you're dazed(grow by health)
3. The longer you are covered in corals the more you can't use your rings one by one as long as you are in the coral.
4. You can destroy them yourself but that is as long as your rings aren't all locked.
5. They need to destroy the coral so they can defib you effectively.
6. I thought of that maybe you can revive or can be defibbed while in the coral but you'd still be trapped in it with your rings locked so they still need to destroy the coral.
7. When you're dazed, you can awaken into the null even if you're in the coral when dazed.
I think you skipped a few steps. But that's okay, because you already explained it to me in chat. The steps you skipped, are (if I understood our convo correctly, of course):
-1: You meet a sea spout patrol. One of those spouts has bubbles.
0: These bubbles attack you and throw you into a coral.
And then we go to your step one:
1: you are stuck in the coral.
Okay I understand that now. And the special sea spout has to be killed to stop emitting bubbles, yes? Like the scarecrow in your other idea, whose crows would die when the scarecrow was destroyed.
And now, I have something to add. Because you wrote:

The thing is that if they're going to use revives or defib, then others would need to free them from the corals. That shows actual teamwork unlike the scenes where greedy members leave 1 person behind because they can't keep up.
But you didn't back this up by actually making it MANDATORY to free your crew mates from the coral. If they'd leave me behind if I can't keep up (not that the people who I run with, do that, but just assume, for the sake of thought, that I ran with that kind of people), or if they'd leave me behind if I get stuck by a regular coral fluff, what is there to stop them from leaving me behind when I'm stuck in one of those new corals?
If we want to build ideas that actually stop people from leaving crewmates behind, we need to make sure that it is impossible to continue as long as a crew member is behind. We could say, for example: "all corals and bubbles must be destroyed before the crew can get access to the chests / the next area / whatever their next goal is. Right?
I could even imagine a wall of coral around a certain entrance, that would have to be completely broken and taken out before one is able to proceed...
