It was a cold satisfaction that Shin watched from the bath's edge as Yue splashed and sputtered about in the frothing mass of snowy bubbles. Dark lips curling up in a pleased little sneer that didn't look quite at home on that pretty noble face. She had been pushed though, past the point of breaking, so it was only appropriate to push back. More then appropriate really. What right did this girl have to interrupt Shin's bath, poking and prodding at things she knew nothing about. No right at all.
She rose, shaking like the beast she was to send water flying in all directions, and Shin didn't even move as the flicked droplets struck her cheeks. Looking down instead at the water logged lush in the bubbles with features chilling. Oh yes, her thoughtless prattling had certainly provoked a reaction. "I am not some lowly thing that will simply sit back and do nothing when accused of lying."
She was angry, that was certainly obvious in the rigid stance of her posture, the paled look of her knuckles where they clutched at the length of bamboo in her hand, but it was a colder rage now as things dissolved into battle. She remembered what happened the last time she tangled with the legion. The bitter taste of defeat on her tongue had been icing on the on the cake that had been the events of that night. She had lost, not just her honor, but her first real love. Heart shattered under the p***k of his lethal needles against her throat. Toyed with, disarmed, and left there to collect the broken pieces.
She had let her anger rule her actions that night, and she had lost, yes, but she had learned from that painful lesson. She would keep a cap on that seething anger, use it to her advantage, and fight this duel with a level head.
She didn't normally seek out confrontation, but she would gladly make an exception for the burgundy haired girl in the bath. "Have I now?"

Yue Lao tilted her head, satisfied with herself. To expose someone's true nature, that was her goal. Shin Mu might seem composed, calm, cold, but there was anger and fear buried in there. Some pain that she could deny all she wanted, but Yue could unearth. It was cruel of her, to dig up what lunarians tried to bury, but that was what she did. It was kind of a hobby. At no point did it occur to Yue that her opponent was a soul conduit. When all you were really good at was fighting with your fists, sometimes the finer points of battle were lost. Yue was still like that; young, and hotblooded, not particularly angry but it was a game that she liked to play.
"A lie is a lie, whether you deceive yourself or not, sour blossom!" Yue said, wringing some of the water out of her braid and trying to get some of the heavier concentrations of water out of her soggy bathing outfit.
Instead of replying to Shin Mu's last question, Yue skipped forward and almost skidded in the water, but she turned the momentum into a spin that looked like she was falling and swept at Shin Mu's ankles. Lately, that move had been one of her favourites. Yue's scales, normally glowing with anticipation of a fight, were dampened a little by the water. Although they had gills, could breathe under water, Yue Lao did not like getting wet very much. She loved to bask in the sun, be warm, and the water seemed to dampen her. She had only met one soul conduit before, and as such, she had no idea how to approach their fighting styles.
Yue Lao, as per usual, was able to do nothing but be Yue Lao.

Bare feet slide smoothly along the slick rock that edged the steaming pool as she moved back from the frothed waves that lapped up and over to spread in sudsy tides. Keeping painted toes from touching the scented bubbles. They were a nuisance, and she wanted nothing further to do with them.
Their creator though was another story. Safely away from the reach of the soapy water the noble lifted her gaze to lock once more upon the tanned lunarian that stood before her, wringing water from burgundy hair and soaked clothing. Her dark lips twitching at the prickling comment. No, she'd gotten her last emotional rise from the conduit maiden. "Your thoughts on the matter mean nothing." She wasn't there, she wasn't aware, and so her opinion met nothing.
Now if only she could have held onto that reasoning from the begging, then things would have been so much less dramatic. Ah well. A lesson for the future, perhaps.
Shin was ready as the legionaire skipped forward and began her attack, but she was not expecting the girl to drop, tripping or otherwise, and send a kick towards her ankles as she recovered. It left her no time to react, and Yue's kick connected solidly with it's target, knocking the noble's legs out from under her and sending the towel clad lunarian sprawling on her back, head connecting rather painfully with the unyielding rock under foot.
It stunned her, and for a precious moment she was too dazed to act.

Yue didn't really take offense to the assertion that her thoughts didn't matter at all. She said things that seemed true, she'd contine to say them even if they were otherwise undesirable. That was just how she was. Yue tried not to purse her lips, though; the soap bubbles would likely taste disgusting. Normally her response to these things was just that simple: purse lips, tilt head, sometimes a wink.
Looked like the sour blossom didn't intend to let her get any more fun out of the situation, though. Yue was disappointed. She liked people with a temper; it made the whole game so much more satisfying. Perhaps if she had a bit of a break from Yue, time apart, the temper would return. The mere thought excited her.
Lately Yue Lao had calmed down significantly. Jianyu had been a very good influence on her, maturing her and making her mellow out a little. For some reason, being around Shin Mu made her regress. It was likely because the Lunarian made her think of everything that she herself was not. Yue wasn't refined, or noble in the least; she was kind of rough around the edges, loud and enthusiastic. Not reserved, pensive, sleek. So part of her wanted to be the total opposite to Shin Mu, to exaggerate their differences.
It was easy to floor the unfriendly and haughty Lunarian. Yue beamed down at her and placed her hands on her hips. "Too bad you're not much of a fighter, huh," Yue said, her cockiness getting the best of this window of opportunity. She was too busy gloating to think of any kind of finishing blow.

There were no starbursts of color, no wavering lines as she sat up ever so slowly, free hand coming up automatically to touch fingertips gingerly to the point of impact. It hurt, but she'd had far worse in the recent path. In fact her temple still held the ugly discolorations of the bruises inflicted by Zhongxian.
Shin meet that confidently smiling face above her and a slow up tilt of lips traced their way along her own lips in response. Cocky wretch. "A shame, that. But fortunately for me that won't be much of a problem." Her voice was soft and even, and being careful of the soapy stone the noble stood. A palm smoothing along the towel that was miraculously still tied around her thin figure. Ever neat, ever tidy, even in the midst of battle. Some compulsions simply could not be ignored.
Delicate fingers tightened around the solid length of her flute, drawing the instrument close to her side as she regarded the legionaire before her, cool eyes narrowing gently. She held her composure, but it was hard not to react to that blatant cockiness. She knew better though, the lessons had been painful.
Of course waiting too long would only give the girl time to decide on an attack, and Shin was not athletic. There were things she could dodge, and things she could not, and she knew without a shadow of a doubt that Yue was stronger then her. She couldn't let herself be overwhelmed by that power, she would lose. If Shin was going to strike it would have to be now.
She took a deep, steadying breath and brought her Dizi up to her lips. Concentrating on the flow of magic within her body, her breathing, the tips of her fingers. Then filled her lungs, and began to play. The initial notes soft and melodic.

Yue paid almost no heed to the Lunarian as she rose, steadied her towel, and regarded her coolly. Nothing that Shin Mu had said affected her in the least: her grin remained steady and full. She wasn't scared of this fragile sour blossom. Not at all. So when the Lunarian brought out a flute, and started to play... Yue Lao didn't know how to react.
This was not how battles were fought, as far as she was concerned. As far as she knew. Was she acknowledging her defeat? Was she absolutely mad? Yue Lao crossed her arms over her chest, and planted her feet solidly. There was something distinctly eerie about the music, but Yue really had no idea what was going on. Back home, they didn't talk about Soul Conduits, and neither of her mothers were any good with magic. So she was completely unprepared for what might happen next, and, in fact, did not even recognize it as such.
She started to walk away, not really sure what was going on. She never turned her back on Shin Mu, but was moving past her to leave. Because she didn't recognize the use of a musical instrument as a weapon, Yue Lao didn't think to interrupt Shin Mu's song. "If you're just going to play a lament for your defeat, I guess I may as well be off," Yue said, grinning.

Mad? No, Shin-mu was not mad, not yet at least. She played her eerie melody, filling the bathes with soft music, and she watched the unease and confusion flicker along Yue's lovely features. She was lovely, this legion brat, but it was lost under that hideous personality. The dark noble hadn't even noticed the fineness of bone structure until that moment, and perhaps only because she had finally stopped speaking.
Spring green eyes followed as she began to move towards the exit, lighting up with amusement and satisfaction. Recognizing the presence of a threat, but not where exactly it was, and certainly not nearly as worried as she should be. Well, Shin would change that.
And Yue slipped along beside her the melody of the music changed. No longer the eerie little song, but something softer, more flowing, and with it came the swirl of misting fog around their feet. Raising up around them as her magic passed her lips along with her breath. Infusing the music with her own powers and playing tricks upon the mind. This particular one was illusion, a means to distract and impair. Not hard to counter, but only if you were aware of what was causing it.
The fog rose around them thick as milk. Filling the entire woman's bath with the swirling illusion, blinding the both of them. Shin ha dnever been immune to her own powers, but they were lessened for her, and she'd trained long to endure, coop, and work with them.

Shin Mu held herself like the Noble she was. Yue would have probably thought her beautiful if it wasn't for her harsh personality and the evident clash between the two of them. As such, it was unlikely she could even manage an uneasy truce with Shin. It was unlikely she could manage even a kind word, at this point. But it was true that Shin was very pretty, a high-brow kind of loveliness that Yue could never manage. As soon as she opened her mouth, it was clear she wasn't from very noble blood. What would it be like, to be Shin's friend? She must have a nice side to her; Yue didn't believe in 'true evil'.
The soft song brought mist, and Yue Lao felt distinctly uncomfortable. "What, you're going to conjure up fog? In a bathhouse? Seems like a waste of time." Yue Lao's eyes were narrowed and empty of expression. She pursed her lips. She never played music, so she didn't know what it was Shin Mu was doing, and she didn't know what the fog was for. Yue crouched down inside the fog and tried to make out what was what. She undid part of her garb to wrap it around her mouth and nose; couldn't be too careful. It didn't sting her eyes, but she was still not willing to risk inhaling the stuff.
Yue Lao grew silent, again, a rare kind of silence: one in which she waited for something.

The corners of Shin-mu's lips curled upward at Yue's question, and the dark skinned noble shock her head, amused. Did this legionaire know nothing of the importance of cover in a battle? Or better yet, depriving your opponent of their senses. Not only did it provide a certain advantage, but it could also unnerve the person you were facing, and make them prone to mistakes. All of these hopeful chances were just that though, chance. Nothing was guaranteed. Still, if it would help, then why not?
As the fog thickened the girl let her flute lower from her lips. "If you say so," she called back, voice soft, confident and calm. It wasn't that she knew she would come through this victorious, but hard training had taught the importance of composure during a fight.
There was little point in drawing things out, and after no more then a minute Shin brought her instrument back to her lips. She began playing again, but this time the song was harsh, chaotic. Notes sporadic and seemingly random, if not for the eerie melody they seemed to follow. It wasn't a harmless song, and it wouldn't take long before Yue's ears began to burn. if she didn't act wisely the burning would grow steadily, and before long that burn would grow into a throbbing ache, like a migraine, or a the morning after a hard night of drinking.
The longer she listened, the worst it would get. Shin's attacks weren't direct, they were meant to incapacity.
