Hey! Just wanted to post the thing I thought was my first true successful short piece. So...Here it is!
Out There
They exist. It's true, they really do. I never thought it was possible to have intelligent life other than us, but they exist. I'm still having a hard time processing all of the information, but I swear I saw them. They move like us, talk in some incomprehensible language, and live among the stars.
They are aliens.
I first saw them while I was star-gazing. There was a flash of light in the sky, and a shuttle, different from the ones we have, appeared in the sky.
I stared at its long sleek shape in awe. It has an insignia on the side of it, which I assumed was the name of their race. It was so impossible to decipher, I can only describe the shapes of it. The first symbol looked to be an egg with the top cleanly cut from the rest of it. The next one looked like a worm, curved in such a way that it had two humps in it. The last symbol reminded me of a mountain, with a bridge underneath it from side to side.
I only had enough time to observe the strange markings before it flew off just as quickly as it had appeared.
I lay there for the longest time, the image of the strange craft still clearly visible in my mind. Its streamlined shape, the black windows on the front and either side, and the wings on the sides and back. It was like nothing I had ever seen.
I went inside, and tried to replicate the symbols I had seen on a piece of paper. If anyone would know what these were, it would be my father.
I waited for him to arrive home from his job, and I gave him the paper. I asked him what they meant, and he shot me a concerned look with his large eyes.
"Son, where did you see this?"
"Outside. I saw it appear in the sky."
"Sit down, son. Let's have a chat."
We sat, and he began to speak at once.
"Son, there are these creatures in space, from a planet very much like our own. They have their own civilization, and their own ways of life. They are a threat to our very way of living. They are seeking us out, and they intend to destroy us. We cannot let that happen. I want you to tell law enforcement about what you saw. They will take care of it."
"But dad, what are they?" I asked, a bit frightened. His expression remained grim.
"They are humans, son. The Martians worst enemy."
NOTE: I won't give anything away, but after you reach the end, go back and read the fourth paragraph closely. If you paid attention to it while reading, I tipped you off to what it is.

Very nice. I'm curious to see where this will lead. I will admit that until I got to the end I thought it was from a humans point of view and on Earth. Nice work with making me feel dumb when I went back and re-read what the symbols where. Don't worry the reader should feel dumb in this situation. XD
