This might come across as a little odd, but I've never seen the issue addressed. Maybe I just haven't looked hard enough. Anyway.

I have six decks of Tarot cards. I've only used four of them, only one for a few serious questions. I know that every once in a while you're supposed to cleanse the deck, but I'm not entirely sure when that should be, or how to do so. I've been told rock salt, but I have difficulties getting my hands on it.

I also know that many people tend to keep their decks in a wooden box of some sort because of the nature of the container. I have a nice hand-made pine box in which I store all of my decks comfortably. They all are in their relative boxes or baggies (save for my Shapeshifter Tarot, which is wrapped in a white ribbon), separate from each other. The question here is: is it okay that they're all in the same box? It makes it easier for me to locate the deck I want at a moment's glance, and transport them without fear of misplacing them, etc. But is it okay to have unused decks in with used ones? Do their relative energies wear off on each other? Influence one another?

Just curious. Thanks.

EDIT: Just found an "All Things Tarot" thread buried in the Library subforum. Will post my question there, as well. If a Moderator or staff member feels it is necessary, please delete? Thanks again. I realize I should've checked the Library sooner, but I forgot about it. sad

That is an interesting question. "is it okay that they're all in the same box?" Personally I do not see a big problem. The cards are yours, and you tell them where they can and can not be. However, if you feel deeply that it is a bad decision, it might be one of your decks trying to tell you something. I am really not fit to say myself. I do not see a need in cleansing much. I like a deck that is not always resorted, gives it a aged feel. I do not do anything special to the deck, other than ask a small prayer before I do each reading. I have two decks, and only really use one, so the other is in storage. That is where I come from. I would put them together if I felt the need.

I have two decks but I only use one. And I've been thinking about getting another.
Anyway I've been wondering that as well.

In my experience the only problem with keeping decks together is getting them mixed up!

I'll go back to something I said in another thread-- the tarot is (generally!) a 'focusing tool'. As long as you have them protected, that should be plenty. One of the things you need to avoid is making any card in any way different from the others- that can lead you to subconsciously choose that card over another one.

Still... If you're getting that sort of feelings from your deck, trust it.

To the cleansing part of your question: It's always possible to bless your Tarot like any other tool. I would say regular ol' table salt works just as well as table salt. Take your deck, organize it, say a dedication blessing and sprinkle some salt on it. If you need to, a very lightly damp paper towel (maybe with a wee bit of windex) will clean off any smudges on a modern, plastic-coated Tarot deck.
