Coat looks nice. Kinda plain. Needs more buckles.
I have a belief in more buckles.
Especially in your case. With all the black (nothing wrong with black; I love black) I think you might need a crapload of brass anythings too tip the balance between steampunk and a weird sort of Gothic cowboy...
(My steampunk side and my gothic side are having a fight in my head about whether to tell you to suck it up and wear less black. Neither side disputes, however, that black works perfectly well in steam, done well. My cosplayer side is in the corner eating Pocky and giggling madly...)
Another thing you could do with the coat is try to add some wear to it, if you can stand it (I can't bear tearing up new clothes if they cost a lot of money and/or time). It'd add some character. Character is good.

Character is good. I can't bear to damage perfectly good clothing myself, in fact I have a black leather overcoat that I got at a thrift store that I would mod if I were sure it wasn't worth much. And there is a coat with buckles on it in that shop but it's a LOT more expensive and I happen to believe in getting more for less. I MAY consider getting a sheriff's badge to add to the mix.

Definitely fair enough. I'd still stitch a bunch of straps and buckles all over it. But that's just me being waaay overconfident in my sewing abilities, as usual XP

I'm sure it'll look awesome. I don't think you can mess up the pieces you're getting. Can't wait to see pictures!

A nice subtle touch: gear spurs with clockwork decoration.
This could range from getting a pair of spurs, replacing each actual spur part with a gear, and soldering/welding gears of various sizes onto the support parts, all the way to getting into some really involved metalwork.

I actually had an idea of doing cog spurs before. I dunno abotu spurs though since I'll be walking i nthese boots.

Possibly. That and I'm not sure I like the look of spurs anyway. If I choose to do this I'll try to post images.
