I read the Pregnancy Test FAQs, I just wanted to go a little more in depth with my situation.
I'm not entirely worried about this but it sticks in the back of my mind all day. I am on the pill and am usually great at taking it at the same time (my alarm goes of at 9pm every night) but recently, because I haven't had the need to be spot on with it, the times have varied up to 5 hours later. My last period came early, started on Saturday, February 26th. I had sex once this past month and it was Tuesday morning, March 15th. He didn't use a condom but pulled out before he came. I took the pill at 9 after that, if not right on then maybe half hour to an hour later. My period usually starts the Monday or Tuesday after I start the placebo pills but I have gotten nothing and have been stressing about it. I took a HPT test today and it came out negative but I'm worried that the urine wasn't concentrated enough or it's just too soon to detect. Any thoughts?
Also, I'm not sure if this would have any effect but I had been on vacation for the past week, just got back last Thursday the 24th. I don't know if vacation, or the stress of flying would have anything to do with it.

Being five hours late can drastically reduce the effectiveness of some pills, while hardly having any impact on other pills. It's tough to say exactly how big of a risk you took without knowing exactly what kind of pill you're on. Luckily, the pills with a little bit more wiggle room are more common, so there's a good chance that you were still protected even if you were often a few hours late with your pills. If you want to double check, look up the pill's website or call your doctor to ask.
The pull out method isn't terribly reliable since pre-ejaculate may contain live sperm, but it does offer you a little added protection.
It generally takes about two weeks for a pregnancy to register on a home pregnancy test, although some of the name brands claim to be accurate sooner. So you're sort of right on the line of when it would probably be showing up if you were pregnant.
Stress definitely can delay a period or make you completely skip your period.
So there is a good chance that you're fine, but don't make a habit of taking pills late! Either take them on time, use a backup method during sex, or talk to your doctor about a method that you don't have to remember every single day. You can take another pregnancy test in a few days or a week if you want to double check or you can visit the doctor for a blood pregnancy since they can pick up a pregnancy before a urine test can. In the meantime, try not to stress about it!

Hi, you usually get a 4-6 hour window with most contraceptive pills. Try to take them at the same time every day.
Try not to stress out too much. With the shortening of your last period, it may have caused your cycle to be a bit out of sync, but many things can affect your cycle, including stress. See how the next 3-5 days pan out. If it doesn't come along, then do another test, first thing in the morning is the best... but most tests will detect at anytime.
In the meantime use condoms for the next month regardless.
If you are finding it hard to keep up with your tablets, have you thought about a long term contraception like the implant or coil?

I am on Nortrel 1/35. I'm not sure if they have an actual website, it was just the general websites like this one: http://www.drugs.com/mtm/nortrel-1-35.html
I usually take them religiously up until just recently when I've started slacking off because I had nothing to worry about (bad, I know). And yeah, I'd like an IUD. Anything else though, anything that doesn't involve getting a period every month (as nice as that would be) would have me worried just because I get paranoid like that. xP

I'm not sure where you traveled, but if it was over several time zones, that kind of travel can delay your period. Stress can do it too.
Case in point: mine was actually 2 weeks late this month (first time in almost a year) which I discovered was related to the subconscious stress of my boyfriend leaving to go back home. As soon as he left (literally, as soon as he got on the bus), I started cramping and bleeding. sweatdrop

I just went through one timezone. Illinois to Florida. It's solved though. I started bleeding a small bit last night and a small bit of cramping today. It's very light, which explains why I haven't gotten my usual symptom, the migraine. Not that I'm complaining. Though I was crazy irritable which usually never happens. It's just all backwards this month, but as long as I get it.
Thanks so much smile
