I was recently threatened with an "evil" magick attack but I do not know how to fend it off...I have these cool looking Japanese amulets though..but would studying magick go against or contradict Buddhist practices especially those of a Pure Land (tradition) follower?

Like everything, you should take what I say as my opinion/advice and not an unquestionable answer, but...

1. Study whatever you want. Barring obsession to the point that it affects the well-being of yourself or others, nothing bad can come from learning and broadening your horizons. It would be like saying "I'm a math person, so I shouldn't learn about science, literature, or art." Don't let people tell you what you can and cannot learn.

2. Anyone who was serious about 'magick' wouldn't threaten you with an evil attack. Wiccans have the whole threefold law thing that really discourages doing ill. And laws aside, not once have I met an actual pagan (read: not some kid trying to look badass) who had the desire to do harm to anyone or anything. I wouldn't worry too much about the person who threatened you.

Hope this helps.

An evil magic attack ... GAAAAAAHHHHH !!!! gonk
You need a magic reflect spell and cast lots of faith healing on yourself ... pirate

Well, I don't think it does contridict what Sakyamuni Buddha taught, the Kalama sutta lets you find out whether anything is true or false before accepting it ... sweatdrop

Well, I think that any curse or magic attack isn't really likely to really affect you, except psychologically. (in your state of mind ... ) sweatdrop

just see this link ...
http://www.dpjs.co.uk/lesser.html

The 'magic attack' would only affect you if you react to it ... ( just like poeple shouting at you with or a drawing of people without their clothes on, hugging each other. ) You only get affected by a curse if you let it affect you ... mrgreen

Anyway, look at the quotes below ...
Quote:
gonk scream gonk SmEXuAL InTErCOuRsE U ! U N uR oBEsE HaPpY DoNKeY !! gonk scream gonk

Quote:
'Fork' you, you and your fat gay a** ... blaugh (ok, I am not used to vuglar language but I am just using it here to cite an example)

Which one of the above affects you more ? That's an example of how that curse might work ...

Anyway, here is an essay about that ...
http://www.vexen.co.uk/notes/capslock.html

Anyway, here is a link to some more information on "Satanic magic"
http://www.dpjs.co.uk/magic.html
(by the way, I am not a Satanist ... I am a wayfarer who stumbled onto that site while search for the words "magic" and "curse" after I heard you mention it.)

I agree with you entirely. That's the whole point of a 'magick attack', I think. I'm not a Pagan of any sort, so I don't really put stock in magick, but I maintain that anyone threatening people with 'magick attacks' is probably just a kid who saw The Craft one too many times and not an actual Wiccan.

Don't let it get to you, Shokai. Their actions don't affect you if you don't let them.

Thank you all! I...right now...feel like hitting myselfo ver the head with a shovel. So here is how the evil magick attack went like "my friend said "oh...my friend is gonna fo voudou (my friend pronounced it like vooo-doo and describes it as evil, etc) on you" and I was like "oh no...." and worried about it for the whole day and it bothered me until I admitted to myself a day later "wait a minute...do I really want to live my life in fear..I am being to paranoid, besides its her karma..." and that is when the whol ice shelf of fear melted...when I asked my friend that out of fear "is she really going to do that stuff" she laughed and said "I was just lying to you" I replied "So you made me look up amulets online for nothing"

Thanks all! oh and thanks to the Kalama Sutra (sutta?)...what would we do without you?"

Oh and I also realized the curse was actually my paranoia

Oh and Wayfarer, I read one of the sites you gave and it said Just thinking you are cursed (and believing it) is a curse in itself. So... one way to curse someone who believes in curses is to present a curse to them! And voila it might actually work, but not through any supernatural means, just working on them with plain paranoia!

Well ... at least, you have finally broken that 'curse' with your power of perception ... mrgreen
