Day 4: Slipping Away

The music was pounding, making the walls throb sensually. The people who had come to watch expected a good show, since the nightclub’s last act had been cut short unexpectedly. Now, the club had been rearranged with catwalks and poles to the ceiling, and men and women were turning circles and removing their clothes, article by article. It seemed a tawdry practice, and most would disapprove.

One man, however, eagerly awaited his debut on the center aisle. Unphotographable had been the one to suggest converting the club’s lounge into a strip club, and now, he was going to perform his special act. He’d practiced for years to perfect it, and as soon as the previous dancer was done, it was his turn.

And speak of the devil, here he comes! He left stage confidently and brushed his way behind the curtain, carrying his oversized, strappy sandals in one hand and holding a towel over his chest and most of his face in the other. “You’re up, guy. Good luck.”

“You mean break a leg,” Unphotographable joked, and he pulled his boa around his neck and strode out to the center stage.

“Ladies and gentlemen, on the center pole- Photo!” The emcee announced, and a host of cheers rose from the spectators, though especially from a certain police officer in the back. Photo took a deep bow, and then gripped onto the pole with both hands to flip himself upside-down.

In his psyched-up state, Unphotographable hadn’t noticed the grease on the previous dancer’s shoes, nor the screwdriver under his towel. The Saboteur hadn’t meant for him to break a leg at all. The pole slipped out of place, and Photo slipped on a puddle of oil on the ground. Photo and the pole fell off the stage onto the hard ground, with his neck breaking the pole‘s fall. Photo certainly had broken something, and he would never get up- on stage or otherwise- again.

Strange, how a lifetime of work can be stripped away in a matter of seconds.

“Clearly, you have the most reason to sabotage Unphotographable,” the young priest declared as he arrested m e a m e a a outside of the club. “You were aiming for his job, weren’t you?”

“Man, I was trying to get a job at the strip club! I didn‘t want Photo out!” M e a m e a a protested as the old priest cuffed her wrists. “Now that a pimp named Slickback is in jail, I can’t find business!”

“A likely story,” the young priest muttered. “I haven’t seen him since we put him away, have you?” He looked to the old priest. The old priest grinned, showing off his new gold-plated grill. “Ah. Of course you… took care of him.”

“God damn,” M e a sighed. “Just… lock me in the basement and get it over with. But remember, my time costs $100 an hour!”

“Sure, whatever,” the young priest grumbled. “Off to the confessional with you!” The priests took M e a m e a a away, with no regard for the fact that they were locking another innocent woman up.
