The hunchback positively beamed when suddenly the portal burst to life again. He... he had done it! WITHOUT the help of any Master or Mistress! Somehow... he didn't know if it was the code the note had prompted, or everyone's constant fidgeting but it was WORKING and they had an escape!
Pride was suddenly overcome by shame, and he tentatively glanced at his friends before shakily stepping forward... it was the only way, right? And... and besides. Perhaps Master Malodore and Mistress Riley would be waiting for him on the other side. They would be so proud of him...
He certainly hoped that's all he'd find there.

Alessa clung to Tset when the girl wrapped her arms around her. It didn't make her feel better, it didn't bring anyone back, but it did give her something to hold onto, if more physically than emotionally. It was something stable, after the whole damn lab proving to be the opposite. So she gripped the other ghoul tight, perhaps a little too much so, as she tried to hang onto her self and any scrap of will she had left. To be alone and to have all of her best friends already...
She hadn't really been paying attention to the others, or the confusing, malfunctioning portal. So when Belladonna was was ushering her and Tset up and through the portal she was confused, but clearly she had no desire or motivation to argue. She let the witch lead her along, moving on her own well enough, though her gaze was a bit out of focus. Her eyes only seemed to center when Belladonna went through. She stared at the image, and then at the open portal that she was supposed to go through.
Well, this had already gotten as bad as they could, right? She stepped blindly through.

"Please, please, please let this be better." Whisper took in a deep breath and waited her turn to step through. She hoped the professors were on the other side with the deceased, ready to yell surprise at them all. Part of her didn't believe that.
It was time. She exhaled, and stepped through.

Oh this was...wow.
Wow. REALLY? Low battery? Just as Israfel got ready to whine and b***h and moan the portal buzzed to life. "Er-" Cocking his head to the side, the siren took a few steps forward.
Then he just sighed and jumped through.

Calder wasn't big on technology, but even he understood what low battery was. He blinked, and then his ears dropped. Okay, what now?! He was half tempted to tear at the portal in hopes something would work, but just before everyone went mad and or started to tear the place apart, the humming perked up and the portal was up and running. Good thing too considering no one was up or in the mood to come up with a quick energy source at the moment and there weren't any other exits.
Soon, everyone rushed to the portal in various states of health but all hopeful, relieved, and praying that they were out of the woods (and didn't wind up back in the fog). Watching Christof smile, Calder beamed back, raising a little thumbs up for the Igor. See. He was smart and did it all on his own. No owners needed. Barth even seemed to be awake too which was a good thing. Together, they all filed through the portal, hoping that the way home was in their grasp.

Oh so that thing wasn't just some junky decoration meant to drive them insane. It actually worked! Though that low battery symbol didn't look very promising... How old was this thing again?
"Let's hope this works!" He said, hesitating a moment before he jumped through the portal with the others.

However tightly Alessa was hugging her back, Tsetsiliya did not seem to mind. No, it did not fix anything, but to at least be of use for the moment.. to be of use to someone made the ghoul feel a little bit better. Behind the trio of ghouls, the rest of the crew was trying to figure out the portal, which had passed by the poludnica mostly unnoticed. As a few combinations were punched in and ultimately rejected, the correct one eventually found its way into the group and the portal beeped, flashing its low battery signal before it hopped to life.
Tsetsiliya turned around upon hearing that hopeful humming, and she swallowed. It was time to go. Would this be the final round? All kinds of emotions were flooding her, but the fear that had edged her nerves now seemed blessedly dull. She nodded at Belladonna and took the ghoul's hand, relieving some of her nervousness and hopefully some of the witch's by giving her fingers a squeeze. The reaper stepped through the portal, and soon after Alessa did as well, and Tsetsiliya smiled at each as they went. Only as they passed did her expression falter, and her trembling hands twisted her frayed hem in her hands. Her eyes watched the portal warily, before flashing to the display that had shown the low battery signal so proudly. What was to become of them now? What of the others?
With another swallow, she stepped into the portal.
