Sonoka's Tank turned into a divided tank, becoming home to Sonoka and Mr. Moto. I just need another heater and this setup will be complete...^_^ This is my first try at dividing a tank. The divider is actually a piece of glass from a 8*11 picture frame we no longer were using. It fit perfectly. I put two notches at the top plastic rim to hold it and one notch in the middle of the front of the hood for it to fit snug due to the height. There is less than a millimeter gap on each side... biggrin Lets just say Sonoka's kinda pissed right now because he is not used to other Bettas next to him, but he's starting to calm down.

I'd like to get another 5 gallon tank and do this with it as well because Roho seems very interested, not aggressive, towards other Bettas. When I have the funds, I'll probably do this again and get another plakat with similar temperament as Roho. After that I could fill my 2.5 with another Betta. Its a want right now though.

Great job! I love projects like that lol

Thankyou...^_^ I was also thinking if I got two Report Binder Clips that I could put one on the top and bottom of the divider. This way I could attach two pieces of a 10 gallon Aquarium background to it if I need to so they could calm down a bit more.

I was thinking last night that the glass divider would cause a need for another heater. After checking the thermometers today though, I found the temperature is just fine. ^_^

The only thing I may do differently is get another 3i filter from Tetra to replace the Mini-Nano filter on the right side. If I do this it will illuminate the need to have a stand alone air pump plus filter running, thus only needing to use one plug for both necessities.

I used the Tetra 3i in my divided betta tank, untill I was certain niether Mister nor Plutto would freek out and jump the divider and I could raise the water level to where it needed to be for the HOB filter to circulate both sides properly. I have a store bought divider. I do not recommend the Top Fin one from PetSmart... I also have a Penn Plax one, that I LOVE, as they are packaged flat, and not all rolled up. Thats the one I have in there now. The Top Fin one is junk, and never stayed straight in the tank scream

That's why I was really happy the glass piece fit really snug. I had to be very gentle with sliding it into place though because the glass is really thin. Instead of having clips to hold it into place, I just used a ruler and gently cut a slot in the plastic rim were it holds the hood so it would hold flush with the glass side pieces of the tank. You DON'T want to completely cut through the trim though if you do this. After that I used the gravel to stabilize it more. And if you make it too wide of a notch the glass will wobble.

I got the idea when I was looking online for a glass divider for a 5 gallon and couldn't find one. The ones that allow current through are nice because it can allow for one filter, but I didn't like the look of them. I was just lucky enough to find a glass panel that would fit perfectly because I don't know how to cut glass and don't have the right tools to cut thick plastic properly. ^_^ I thought of plastic looms, but I didn't like them either.

If I knew how to cut glass I would use different pieces of frame glass for smaller tanks myself that I find at a thrift store or dollar store in stead of paying $7 - $11 for glass ones already pre-made. It all depends on what you prefer in your tank, but in the long run I believe it would save you money to make your own with whatever materials you use for a divider. ^_^

I also have a 3i filter on the left side, just not on the right. When I first got my 2.5 gallon I thought of it but went with the Nano filter because at first glance I thought it would work like a piece of crap filter I once had. The one I had was a Penn Plax Small World Pump and Filter Kit which was a piece of crap. It was mainly good for aeration. When I got Mr. Moto last week I thought I'd give the 3i a try because his tank was too small for anything else. When I got it running I was really impressed with the quality of it and how gentle it is to the water surface. No rippling at all compared to the Nano filter.

A picture of the crappy filter set I once had..lol!

Thank you..^_^ I was really sleepy when I thought of it. This was an experiment with the glass picture piece that thankfully turned out like I wanted. Don't know what I would've done if it shattered in the tank...lol!

I'm glad you posted a picture of that filter! I saw one like that at PetSupermarket, and wanted to get it for my 3 gallon Kritter Keeper, because the Tetra 3i takes up alot of room in that small of a tank. Couldnt find any info on it, and then just gave up and continued to use the 3i. Glad I didnt buy that other one now lol

My suggestion to you would be if it takes up more space in your tank than you like, I would try seeing if you could upgrade to a bigger tank. I personally think anything that can't fit a filter at minimum size as a 3i would be to small for a fish. Even with a 3i, you could probably get a 2.5 gallon set up tank to put it in. If you did so I'd say look around for a set up kit because you could save money in the long run instead of buying everything separate, Hood/Tank/light/Ect.. It would make your fish happier as well if you were able to do this. ^_^

2.5 kits arent sold here, for some reason. But my sister said I could use her (which is actually mine, but I let her use it lol) Marineland Eclipse System 3 (another 3 gallon). It has a built in filter, and takes up less room then the Kritter Keeper, and looks waaaay nicer

Well, they are just under 3 gallons, but 3 gallons is easier to say and most people know you mean XD The Marineland Ecliplse is 3 gallons for-real though lol But they dont make them any more. If you want an Eclipse, you have to get a 6 gallon one D=

Ah..I see. I saw a 6 gallon long from petco.com which looked really cool. I'd love to have it but I has no room.

I may have to get a 10 gallon divided in the future though because of our small living space. Our other problem here is I have my 2.5 gal and 5 gallon in our living-room, and a computer desk because we have no where else to put them. With only 3 outlets, I need to re-arrange things, and a 10 gallon would run on less electricity if I used 3i filters for each divided sect for filtration and aeration. That would be five plugs instead of six to seven for one tank on one outlet devoted to it.

Yeah, thouse bookshelf taks are awesome. I want one, but for how long it is, I you just get a 10 gallon and keep twice as many fish in it lol

For my outlet problems, I have one "outdoor" extention cord with 3 plugs on it, and one surge protector with 6 plugs. On the extention cord I have the lights plugged into (and one other thing, but I dont remeber), and on the surge protector I have the heaters, and filter, so when I'm ready to to do a water change on those two tanks (3 and 5 gallons), I just switch the surge protecor off. Only takes up two outlets, and keeps you from having to reach way behind stuff to unplug things XD

I understand...^_^ I changed the living room around two days ago. Now my 5 gallon is on a wall with an outlet all to its-self, aside from a lamp. The 2.5 is on the second with a lamp and laptop hooked up to it. Then our third one has our TV and my laptop on it. After the re-arrangement, I had to substitute my speakers for ones I don't plug in. Now I don't have to worry about overloading an outlet because this house was built in 1905. Even though we have a new breaker box, our landlord still needs to re-wire the downstairs in the future due to it so we have to be careful. He hasn't done so yet due to having to completely remodel the upstairs apartment last year due to our neighbors arson fire. Until then, I don't plan on setting up a new tank, unless I take one down. Plus, I really like my 5 gallon and would love another one. ^_^
