This week we watched City Hunter starring Jackie Chan. What did you think of the film?

This is one of my favorite Jackie Chan movies. I love all the completely silly situations that the characters get themselves into and the absurdity of the action scenes. I like to watch it any time I'm feeling down, the video game scene always cheers me up.

Yeah, this one was -really- funny. I loved it. It had all the wackiness that the other one may have been lacking, and then some. Whereas the other one looked like a comedy that took itself seriously (at least reasonably so) this one did not take itself seriously in the least. It was unapologetically cheesy and absurd, through and through. I can get a chuckle out of such things, though, so I enjoyed it.
I heard that Jacki Chan didn't like this movie, though. He criticized it in a book he wrote (according to Sara, who got her facts from Wikipedia). Unfortunately, what exactly he complained about wasn't given. I wish that I knew what his complaints were...
That Street Fighter scene was as hilarious as it was ridiculous... And it was completely ridiculous.

That's interesting, I hadn't heard anything about him not liking the film. I'll have to go dig out his biography and see if I can find something about it.

Okay, I looked through two books on Jackie Chan. The Essential Jackie Chan Sourcebook stated that Jackie Chan dismissed the film as a lesser effort. They go on to say that whether he realizes it or not he tends to downplay films that he didn't direct himself. In the second book I am Jackie Chan: My Life in Action, Jackie Chan states, "This movie is okay, but not one of my favorites. The humor is very broad, which is typical of the film's director, Wong Jing..." He then goes on to describe his favorite gag of the film, the Street Fighter bit, and also mentions the Bruce Lee gag.

Matasoga Thanks for finding that out for me. That is interesting. I just saw this, silly Gaia hasn't been giving me all my notices. You're welcome, it helped that we happened to own those books.
